Your views are extreme. Extremism is a valid approach only in extreme cases. This is not one of them. If local church members collect food, cellphones, toiletries and personal conveniences to send to anonymous soldiers in the fields of Afghanistan, where do you see 'brainwashing' in this? If a local church holds a safe Halloween party for toddlers, I choose to leave it alone and not call it brainwashing but concern for the welfare of children. When a Jewish Community Center opens its doors for a cultural orientation for immigrants, I don't sneer cynically and call it brainwashing. And when the Salvation Army passes out blankets to homeless people in 10 degree January weather, only an idiot would claim that the act is a brainwashing attempt. On a local level, when believers work one-on-one to alleviate suffering or help improve the world in the best way they can, I may not subscribe to their God and reality but I say leave well enough alone. Now, religious leadership at high organizational levels -- that's a whole different ballgame.  (Yesterday | post #34598)
