East confronts west in Latin America

For sure, we're no angels, Alcan, is just one of I'm sure a couple thousand, our BC forests are being depleted, waters are tainted, cows getting sick due to all the pharmaceuticals (unnecessary) that are injected into milk producing cows to have them produce more milk. WHY is that when the world already over produces MILK? Man's insatiable lust for money. Which buys us pretty things. I'm not trying to say we can do without commerce, but if we let commerce run our existence we could be in for a rude awakening when trinkets no longer matter. What ever happened to helping a brother up!!!!  (Sep 19, 2008 | post #9)

If anyone wants to see what happens in the end, check out a movie hotel Rwanda. There is a reason that Russia and china are interested in Latin America, they have noticed that the US has somewhat forgotten about Latin America, and not that the 'west' has forgotten them, we've just got bigger fish to fry apparently, in the pursuit for CRUDE OIL, GUNS and WARS and Commerce. Other UNTAPPED MARKETS. The old outdated guns that are owned by civilized nations GOVERNMENTS are not being destroyed they are being SOLD to foreign Nations to keep strife alive in many countries. Where do you think they're getting the guns from, they can't manufacture them.  (Sep 19, 2008 | post #34)

US base in Ecuador gets last chief before close

I am not bashing the US, I am bashing corporations and our Governments as western societies for letting our corporations corrupt our governments and create half of the situations we see. North American Media only gives us partial answers. I am a firm believer that we should support our troops, unfortunately we don't have many so we and the rest of the world rely on Nations that do have more military might, being the US, but let us make sure that are troops are not being led into blind slaughters for the pursuit of profits. (hamburger hill how many times did the people in charge take that hill. How many times did they really need to ONCE why give it back, and back and back). We need a big brother in the world, without a doubt because we can't get everyone to play nice in a sandbox. At least not a bunch of adults. I can get my son, without asking to play in a sandbox with any other child. And to quote a 3 yr old 'gringo' 'Hey can someone over there help my friend out he can't climb the slide and I am not big enough to help him'. Was an Islamic child. I am Canadian and damn proud of it. I appreciate the multi cultural aspects we have here. I appreciate the US. As for the blackberry, do your homework, it's cheaper to get a cell phone or a blackberry in a 3rd world country than it is in N.America. GOV't REGULATION and CORPORATIONS. I think we're all here for one reason, our love for Ecuador, and our mistrust in past HISTORY and our POLITICIANS and theirs. Is a communist'ish' gov't going to stop me from visiting Ecuador, doubtful. Buying property, maybe. But if you follow communist regime's, from Hong kong/brittch rule take over, to even in London, 'red Ken' and yet lets not forget that even Cuba is opening the door, and they too receiv'd their 1st taste of 'CAPTIALISM' and got their balckberry's too!!! Oh and everything else that China can send them. Apparently if you picture everything around you at the moment, and try not to buy something that is made or partially made in China, you will be sitting naked on a dirt floor. And btw, I do believe that absolute power corrpts, and power corrupts absolutely, lets not put it in the hands of those that only seek profit!!!  (Sep 19, 2008 | post #20)

I agree with 1st sergeant, I have been to Ecuador, and been many places throughout the world myself. I have yet to find a place I would like to live other than my town of Calgary, and Ecuador keeps drawing me there. Lets hope that the people we vote for in Government start making some right decisions that don't involve the pursuit of profit over and above humanity. Cudos to Ecuador left wing or not for being the 1st and only country trying to give rights to Eco systems and the planet. So much so, that they actually put it in their constitution. We give our rights to legal corporations that corrupt governments.  (Sep 18, 2008 | post #16)

How do you let a country affect your national interest? What have you been doing? Our market is tied to your market. Greedy bankers and world capitalism, have created many of the issues that surround your country, when are you people going to wake up. The govts are run by the corporations. Legal entities, that have no remorse or recourse to the people, and manage governments, in their quest for profits. Lets go back to the history books. SEPARATE the STATE from profit, and start making corporations accountable and use our govts to provide the stability required for growth.  (Sep 18, 2008 | post #23)
