Grave Robbing or Archaeology?

This is a toughie. Having dug on an Anglo Saxon and a Roman cemetary, I believe we should leanr what we can from the bodies of those who lived long ago. I also believe that once all that can be gleaned, has been, then these same people should be given a dignified burial. Not put n case in a museum to gawp at. As for the 9/11 unidntifieable remains, it's far too soon to even think of this. I'm with the families of those who've never been found who find the whole idea abhorrent. It's going to be a memorial true, but NOT in a museum. Please. They need a quet, secular resting place, where family members of the vanished can sit and think of those they've lost. NOT in a busy museum. My heart breaks when I see King Tutankhamun's body being subjected to all types of indignities. How much more upseeting will it be to those whose loved ones perished so recently.I'm beginning to look at human remains in museums in the same way I look at animal and Zoos. It should not be!  (May 13, 2014 | post #1)

Israel playing dirty: Is this archaeologist's 'discovery'...

Why should Israel be any different. It wouldn't be the first time that archaeology's been used for political ends.  (May 7, 2014 | post #1)

Egypt Archaeologists May Have Found Alexander the Great&#...

This discovery should perhaps have been kept un-reported until the site was cleared, measured, photographed , all finds made safe. Every time that the vaguest possibility of such an amazing find is reported, I tremble for the safety of site and archaeologists. Someone, somewhere, unscrupulous and uncaring, will see the word TREASURE before their eyes and not historical importance. Yes,it's an exciting fine, no matter whom the tomb contains, if not robbed in antiquity, but to trumpet it from the battlements before being certain of safety at the site to me seems foolish and frightening.  (May 3, 2014 | post #1)

Legendary Nibelung Treasure May Have Been Found By A Guy ...

Interesting. But a rather small horde for the Nibelung. And where is the cursed ring? Could well be the inspiration for the legend though.  (Feb 22, 2014 | post #1)
