Rec Center could close if bond fails Murphy: Repairs are ...

I guess the Catamount building would be ok, but the old Jr High building there's not a lot of parking. I just think trying to get the armory building after they build the new one is a much better choice then putting all that money into the rec center we have now.  (Feb 24, 2011 | post #14)

The armory will be available in 2-3 years, that's time line that has been given the the new armory. Get the armory building the same way we got the building where the PD is and use that as the new rec center. There is plenty of room to do everything that should be done.  (Feb 23, 2011 | post #11)

Leahy: Cut aid to Egypt if Mubarak stays

No matter what any of you who love the oil and would hate to see it go say will ever convince me that more oil is the answer. Will we ever be 100% free of oil, I doubt it. But we can and must drastically cut our use of oil.  (Feb 7, 2011 | post #25)

Leahy: Cut aid to Egypt if Mubarak stays

You are right, we do have the oil here to handle our needs. But the answer is not more oil, ours or theirs. Because you know as well I do that all that oil we have here will not all be used here, some will, but not all of it. It would be put on the open market where they would make the most money. So saying that taping into the oil here will get us off foreign oil is just a little misleading. The only way to get off foreign oil is to get off all together or at least as much as we can.  (Feb 7, 2011 | post #15)

Slaughter at a supermarket

Reading some of these posts it's not just are politicians that need to grow up and realize we are all in this together. All the crazy/hateful talk, all the name calling that has taken over this country isn't unique to just one political party, we are all to blame. We all allow it when we only call out those from the other side. Until we all realize that there are those on both sides of the aisle who have good ideas and are willing to have good honest and grown up debates, we are not going to get very far. And let's not forget, even though we have freedom of speech (and I'm glad we do and thank all those who have fought and died to protect it) it, like everything else does not come without consequences.  (Jan 12, 2011 | post #24)

I could care less if someone wants to drive around with a pistol in their car. As for carrying a weapon (concealed or not) into a public place I say hell no. And again if that makes me anti gun then fine.  (Jan 9, 2011 | post #24)

What I have said is that I would like to see the gun show loophole closed. If that makes me anti gun then fine. But in noway would I ever support a bill that tells a law abiding citizen they can not own a firearm. Except for the ban on assault weapons, I would bring that back. Do I own a gun, no. But when I go to NC to visit my dad and brother we love to go skeet shooting and I use use one the two shotguns my brother owns. I do not hunt so I see no need to own a gun. Again if that makes me anti gun, then fine.  (Jan 9, 2011 | post #22)

As I said, I have no problem with them buying these if they do.  (Jan 9, 2011 | post #15)

These are being purchased to replace ones they have now and I have no problem with that. I want the men and women who serve as members of the BPD, BCSD and the VSP to have the best equipment available to them, and hope they never have to need them. And if you think that is nuts then I guess you must believe that they don't need to carry their sidearms considering that they rarely have to use them. I guess you would strip them of all the tools they have if they don't use them everyday. And as for Tom Carters statement "In many cases when a police officer is shot, Carter said, itís with his or her own weapon" He wasn't talking about an officer shooting himself/herself and you know it.  (Jan 9, 2011 | post #12)

For those of you crying about how they tested this vest try reading the article and you will see that they were testing it for one of it's uses. "The shields can also be hung over the doors of cruisers to provide cover while the officer is driving into a dangerous situation. Doucette tested this feature by hanging a shield over his police vehicle and firing rounds from his sidearm into it. The shield caught the bullets and the vehicle was not damaged." And if the vest had failed and the window been broken or had there other damage to the cruiser I'm willing to bet that Armorshield would have paid for the damage.  (Jan 9, 2011 | post #8)

Leahy, Sanders, Welch spurn tax deal

Of course the elected officals would not have a way of saying to people in special intrest groups we took care of you by giving you a tax break." And that is why the way campaigns are financed must be change. But with the ruling by the Supreme Court last year I don't see that happening anytime soon. http://www.publica mpaign.org/  (Jan 6, 2011 | post #238)
