Nasal Polyps

nasal polyps

Marilyn, It TOTALLY sounds as though you have Samter's Triad or what my doctor calls Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease. I haven't looked at the Mayo site, but check out all the info on: http://aerd.partne My biggest issue was drinking alcohol -- never realizing that it was the one glass of wine each night with dinner that was making me so much worse. Just stopping that helped. And there is finally a bunch of research going on in Boston so that they can figure out what in the world is causing all of these awful feelings. I am goin to see if I can qualify to be in one of the trials they are doing, but my asthma might be too bad. Good luck!  (Sep 20, 2012 | post #11)

Can Aspirin Prevent Asthma?

Not sure about aspirin actually preventing asthma, but there is a group of patients who have asthma and nose polyps and weird reactions to aspirin and ibuprofen, and in those patients (sometimes called having Samter's Triad), taking a lot of aspirin every day makes their asthma better. See details: http://aerd.partne  (Sep 20, 2012 | post #10)

Nasal polyp removal

Tracy, if you have had bad nasal polyps for 3 years and bad asthma at the same time, is it possible that you have Samter's Triad (my doc in Boston calls it AERD or "aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease"), and are allergic to aspirin or ibuprofen? If you are, then there is a good chance that doing an aspirin desensitization and using aspirin every day can help you a ton, and bring back a sense of smell too. But I learned that if you don't have the aspirin allergy then doing an aspirin desensitization doesn't help (weird, I know). if you want to look up Samter's Triad, here is a pretty good website: http://aerd.partne though Wikipedia has some good information too. GOod luck! I was one of the lucky ones and aspirin therapy is really helping me, so hopefully it can help you too!  (Aug 28, 2012 | post #763)
