GA-15 resurfacing? how much longer?

I travel on Georgia Hwy 15 south every few weeks on my way back and forth from UGA to South Georgia, and the past few times I've been, there have been holdups on the highway between Watkinsville and Greensboro. It ends up adding up to 10 or 15 minutes on my trip through there, and is quite frustrating. Each lane has to take turns and follow this slow pilot car through the construction zone. And meanwhile, the other lane has to stop and wait while the first one goes through. I was wondering if anyone knows how much longer this is going to last, because if it's going to take awhile, I need to plan to take an alternate route (US-78 east out of Athens and then GA-77 from Lexington to Siloam), so my trip home doesn't involve so much waiting. Thanks!  (Jun 15, 2010 | post #1)

Any hotels in metro Miami that allow age 18+ to check in?

I am going to Miami tomorrow, and almost every single hotel I've called down there seems to require age 21 to check-in. I find this very ridiculous, and I am in urgent need of suggestions. Does anyone know of any hotels or motels that only require age 18 to check in? Anywhere near Miami, preferably between Kendall and Fort Lauderdale. Looking for cheaper hotels by the way. Is is true that smaller, family-owned, non-chain motels generally only require 18+? And if I went to a hotel that says they require 21+, do you think they would not really notice or are they strict about that stuff?  (May 25, 2010 | post #1)

Faster to drive through JAX on I-95 or to take 9A eastside?

I am in the Savannah GA area planning a trip down to Miami this week, and I was wondering whether it is faster to drive through Jacksonville on I-95 south, or to bypass the city by taking 9A around the east side of the city. I believe that 9A is now up to freeway standards all the way around, although it does add 2 or 3 miles to the trip. But taking into account traffic, speed limits, and whatever else, which route would be quicker? I know that the I-95/I-10 interchange has been chaotic for at least ten years now, and I am wondering if it will ever be fixed. I remember frequent backups there when I've gone through Jacksonville in the past. I will be travelling on a weekday morning, so let me know which way is faster. THanks!  (May 23, 2010 | post #1)

Going to Miami via I-95 v. Turnpike ?

I'm planning a trip to Miami this week, specifically to a hotel on Miami Beach, and I was wondering whether it is faster to take I-95 exit 129 and get on the Turnpike there heading south, or should I stay on I-95 all the way to Miami? By the way, I'm coming from the Savannah area, right down the FL coast. Anyhow, Google Maps and Mapquest both show I-95 as the preferred route, although it seems to add six more miles to the trip to stay on I-95. Taking into account the traffic and the slowdowns for tollbooths, which way would be faster on a weekday?  (May 23, 2010 | post #1)
