Ladies and Gentlemen, I truly do have opinions on subjects, and I will from time-to-time voice them, even if they are controversial. I've said before and I'll say again... Vladimer Putin is the rising King of the East from Revelations. Whomever the current incarnation of Mao is in that still-communist hell of China has ALREADY arisen in the South. They will BOTH start marching towards the Holy Land very, very soon, and all HELL is about to break loose. If you think about it, you've got the two combined super-powers out of three ready to go up against ISRAEL (and if we've got any guts, US.) We need to STOP this situation before it arises, or we simply back Russia in it's inevitable conflict. At least, if we don't, what did we sacrifice so many American boys for doing it already? This is our Nation's birthday tomorrow. No joke, my HOMETOWN has refused to fund a fireworks show for 5 years. Somehow, I am ashamed of that. I live in a small town, relatively speaking, but a prosperous one. And the religious threads, well... they intrigue me. The Churches have a lot of power around here. And these powerful people... Mormons, by the way, but also even the occasional Jew or Muslim or Hindi.... but... mostly various Protestant denominations (especially Baptist and Southern Baptists) and a few Catholics put these powerful people into the high-paying public positions into power with a donation (usually big.) And I had faith in that system for the longest part of my life. But, I gave it FIVE years. Now my own home town has, basically, flat-out refused to put on a fireworks show for five years on the 4'th of July. I no longer have Faith in anything, because my own hometown was the very reason I ever even served. I fear my own hometown will never be truly, deeply "American " at it's core again... They've forgotten what it means to be "American " in the first place. Sheriff Andy pretty much ALWAYS made up any county budget deficit that would cancel the fireworks show from his department. I want my yearly 4'the of July Fireworks Show re-INSTATED, not even so much for me as for my BOY! To my religious friends and old friends on this board (Mechic45, Not, my pages, Hannah, Katey, Salvo, Laura... I miss ALL of you), I apologize if I offended you. You too, Howie. I'll end this crap before I sound like a beggar. Jeane-Marie, I have missed you fiercely. I LOVED hearing about the Canadian Trans-Continental Railroad... you were RIGHT about our shared mutual dis-regard for those probably MILLIONS of, basically, enslaved Chinese. That is one super-duper-duper, expensive, fancy, fancy, fancy, fancy, fancy, fancy, fancy, FANCY Train, and I admire you if you have taken a ride ON it...  (Jul 3, 2014 | post #17082)

Anytime. Don't listen to me, though. Like I said... it's been YEARS, so I cannot swear it's the same woman. If it is, though... phew... she was out there.  (Oct 28, 2013 | post #17077)

The old "grafted in" perspective... yep. I guess it doesn't really matter all that much one way or the other, though, does it? That's what people like her never seem to get. (If they tell themselves Satan wasn't in the garden and it was just the "man part" [free-will, presumably]) then why on earth bother with telling the original story in the first place?  (Oct 28, 2013 | post #17076)

Sounds more and more like her. Her big thing, back when I talked to her, was about this "great awakening" the earth is on track for, that big "choice" they allude to (not brave enough to put a date to it, though. They never seem to be.) She did NOT like talking to me. I can see a catheter coming into conversation with her, and outside any theological interpretations, it would be logical for her to wish to conversate about such things.  (Oct 23, 2013 | post #17072)

The Bible sort of already does that. One can hardly read it without understanding that Jesus points out that the "personally offensive" parts that classify human sexual behavior (your adulteration, homosexual behavior, bearing false witness, etc...) it's all fine and well for you to judge that sort of thing on a personal level all you like, but your best bet in any circumstance is just to keep your mouth shut altogether and focus on the most offensive things that can affect EVERYONE. "Judge not lest Ye be Judged," and "Cast not the First stone" come to mind in the former, Jesus physically throwing some money-lenders out of the Temple and renting some Veils in the latter. There's no need to further dumb-down the Bible itself to appease a modern-day "I can only think in 'politically correct'" mentality. It's as politically correct as it's ever gonna get.  (Oct 23, 2013 | post #17071)

I don't think I'd be able to respect the opinion of people who ain't willing to lemon me a time or two, be it philosophically, religiously, laboriously, technically, or otherwise. The uncritiqued life is hardly worth living...  (Oct 23, 2013 | post #17070)
