Referendum on Sheriff Munks

On the environment- Hill sided with the auto companies on lowering the amount of zero emission vehicles that they had to produce. He claims to be an environmentalist, yet he accepts thousands of dollars from major developers. Hill is the ultimate flip-flopping candidate. Playing both sides of the fence in the hopes that everyone likes him. But leadership is about taking bold stands. Whether it's asking the sheriff to resign or standing up to developers or the insurance companies, Hill has failed the test each and every time.  (May 12, 2008 | post #20)

Referendum on Sheriff Munks

Hill is the same guy who decided to become a Democrat when he realized his political career would go nowhere as a Republican. He also claims to be an environmentalist while accepting thousands of dollars from developers (including Cargill) Hill is no leader. Papan has the insurance companies backing her with $200,000 already spent on mailers.  (May 12, 2008 | post #19)

Referendum on Sheriff Munks

All five of the Board of Supervisors have sat back and done nothing. I urge that you not vote for any of these incumbents. I also urge you to vote for Richard Holober for State Assembly. I think he's a fresh voice in this corrupt county  (May 11, 2008 | post #11)

Referendum on Sheriff Munks

Hill has proven himself to be anything but a leader. The guy plays both sides of every fence. His mishandling on the Sheriff scandal is enough to doom his political career. Holober has a better record and is more experienced than Hill or Papan. And he is clear on where he stands as the true progressive democrat in the race.  (May 11, 2008 | post #10)

Debate rages over accountability in Munks fallout

The real point that Manekin missed is look at how other places have handled scandals. Elliot Spitzer was forced to resign because elected officials of all parties called for his resignation. If the San Mateo Board of Supervisors all joined in a chorus of asking Munks to resign or even passing a censure resolution or a vote of no confidence, Munk would have been history. Instead, our corrupt Board blames our charter for their inability to get rid of Munks. As comparison, let's watch what happens with Vito Fossella of NY with his scandal of his out of wedlock child and mistress. I am confident that NY elected leaders will be calling for Fossella's resignation over the next week and that he resigns by the end of the month. That's what leaders are supposed to do, LEAD! Jerry Hill and his band of misfits are not leaders.  (May 10, 2008 | post #5)

Lobbyists give money for Papan mailings

I agree that Gina's support by medical insurance companies raises some big red flags. I had hoped that she was better than her dad in sucking up to insurance companies, oil and tobacco, but apparently the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Since this is all public information, you can look up any candidate's contributor at the Secretary of State's website: http://cal-access. sos.ca.gov/Campaig n/Candidates/  (May 9, 2008 | post #2)

The sheriff must explain brothel visit

Stogner is quoting articles over a year old because it has been a year and nothing has happened to the Sheriff! Zippo, nada, no slap on the wrist, no reprimand, no calls for his resignation from any of our elected officials. I'm not a fan of Stogner but he has a point that it is a disgrace that our Sheriff would get caught in an illegal brothel and the county officials all look the other way and take his political contributions.  (May 8, 2008 | post #99)

Hill under fire for Munks response

Rosie, Munks ran in the race but Bolanos did not. They finished near the bottom. Another reason that doesn't inspire much confidence when San Mateo County has th e most out of shape law enforcement officers in the state of California. So why's Jerry Hill supporting this guy?  (May 8, 2008 | post #6)

The sheriff must explain brothel visit

Bravo Female Deputy, Another outrage in this is the fact that the prostitutes were underage sex slaves. They had to work off their debt by catering to disgusting men like Munks and Bolanos. Why haven't our elected leaders called for Munks' resignation and why hasn't Bolanos been disciplined as a San Mateo County employee? Our County supervisors are corrupt when their morality is bought off by a couple of thousand dollars in campaign contributions as Munks did for Jerry Hill in his State Assembly race.  (May 4, 2008 | post #43)

The sheriff must explain brothel visit

Jason, Yes, it is the responsibility of the Probation dept who let him escape. But, it is the responsibility of the Sheriff's Department to recapture him. The Sheriff waited almost 8 hours before getting a warrant. The judge was livid about the sheriff's delay. As a result of the long wait, the murderer is still out there. Greg Munks was responsible for this. http://www.sfgate. com/cgi-bin/articl e.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/ 02/16/BA9GV3FAO.DT L  (May 3, 2008 | post #33)

The sheriff must explain brothel visit

Have folks forgot that this is the same Sheriff that gave an escaped murderer a 8 hour headstart? His incompetency on that matter should be enough for him to step down. That escaped murderer is still at large due to Munks' and the people who protect him (Jerry Hill, Adrienne Tissier and the cabal in Redwood City)  (May 2, 2008 | post #27)

Supervisor eyes change to charter

We have a chance to punish the Ole Boys network by making sure that Jerry Hill loses his assembly race. The more I hear about this guy Richard Holober, the more I like him. He has my vote for State Assembly  (Apr 27, 2008 | post #12)

Revisiting Munks matter possible

I've heard that Hill was in Vegas the same weekend that Munks got busted. I hope that the reporters are looking into this and documenting it.  (Apr 23, 2008 | post #12)
