Altho' this story is over a year old, the controversy goes on forever. I believe that a person's spirit, the thing that makes you, you, and different from me, goes on. Where it goes is another controversy, but if there wasn't a unique spirit in each of us, we would be like animals from the same litter--no discernable difference between our personalities. It MUST go somewhere, it doesn't just stop, it CAME from somewhere, so I believe it lives on. I wuld really hate NOT to believe that. (Monday | post #14)

You guys can't be serious! The last thing a cop wants to do is fire his gun--just think of all the paperwork! However, you point a gun at a cop, you will get shot and probably killed--it's your choice. They didn't put the gun in his hand and say "Do you feel lucky?". This was a clear case of suicide by cop, no matter why Mr. Miller snapped. Don't blame the cops for his actions. (Tuesday Dec 22 | post #155)

City fire kills adult, two children
Last night my grown son came to me and said he just saw the girls' mother on TV and heard about the fire. He said it put the fact that he didn't have a whole lot for his kids this Christmas into perspective for him. The greatest things you can give children for Christmas is your love, time, and attention. Be with them and do something special--that's what they'll remember. Keep this family in your prayers, and learn the lesson of how quickly it can be lost. Merry Christmas! (Tuesday Dec 22 | post #39)

Whether or not she would have died anyway does not matter. Those two should be charged with negligence, which is "failure to do what a resonable person would do under the same or similar circumstances ". A clear-cut case, given our information. That's why there is a "good samaritan" law, so that people who DO try to help CAN do so without fear of law-suits. Then there's these two, in uniform, representing themselves as bona-fide EMT's, who walk away and someone dies. They can hang that career up forever-more, right beside their jail jump-suits!!! Sounds to me that finding the dead cat at the MARINA started all of this that day. He must have brought it home, went out drinking, got arrested and brought back home, grabbed the cat and the gun, saying the gun was for himself, and went out the door. Must have really loved that cat, or thought the cat was murdered, maybe, by someone who hated him. I wish I was in a position to find out the "rest of the story". (Monday Dec 21 | post #114)

I heard on the TV news last night that there WAS working smoke detectors in the building and no one knows why that family did not hear them or get out. Also, the Red Cross has offered help for anyone displaced, and no one has come forward. Hmmm... A sad, odd, unfortunate horrific situation. (Sunday Dec 20 | post #23)

It appears that she was heading BACK towards the border from wherever she had to go, and accomplished whatever she had to do. Hope it wasn't plant a bomb or something. I understand that news is news, but it makes me physically ill to hear about things like this. I cannot imagine what goes on in the minds of these people who do things like this. They say that young people who torture and kill animals grow up to be serial killers and all kinds of bad things. They are truly born and raised without any concept of conscience and humanity. My strongest wish is to catch these people before this happens, some kind of DNA test or mental signpost to look for. Alas, there is none yet. (Saturday Dec 19 | post #9)
Obviously, those in the EMT service CAN "hack" it or they wouldn't be doing it. A great many people never could. And each one deserves a big THANK YOU for everything you do, whether it's taking that hang-nail in or trying to put that last breath of life back into a body gone 20 minutes. My only beef with that ceremony is that they didn't name names on the news, and that ALL EMT's weren't honored that night. Paid or not, it's something no one can do without true desire to help their fellow man, something few of us truly possess. THANK YOU. (Saturday Dec 12 | post #15)
Deadly crash in Genesee County
Spiderman, I know you're just kidding. Come drive on any of the roads I take every morning and see, no where near Genessee Co. We went through there yesterday when the road was still blocked off, around noon, said they were still cleaning up. Anyone knows who's been out there it's a flat open fairly straight stretch, perfect for edging up over the speed limit, but we don't know that yet. There had also been about two inches of snow on the cars from earlier in the morning. (Saturday Dec 5 | post #5)
