Dear pontificators: Get my name straight willya? SAFOGEL! And here is a geography lesson: La Paz is the capital of the state of Baja California Sur, the seat of county and state government, home to three prestigious scientific research agencies and the center of eco-toursm. La Paz has two universities plus several smaller junior colleges. There are hospitals, private and public, and well-trained doctors. and medical care is affordable and accessible to everyone.That means divers and kayakers come here, not the frenzied drunken tourists of the border towns. It was a frequent port of call of the great Jacques Cousteau. Madame Cousteau recently visited and I had the honor of interviewing her. La Paz has a population of 200,000 people. I am hardly cut off from reality. My work takes me all over Mexico, and keeps me in contact with Mexicans of all societal rank on a daily basis. Since all you can do is tout the issues of the border towns, and have no more information, your comments are comical. And by the way, my house on the beach is hardly a hut. If you hate Mexico and despise its people why are you blathering here on this forum? I stay away from people and places I don't like. Including this forum and you. I live in Mexico. Little girls are not snatched off the streets here never to be seen again. the population is not armed. and the driver of thenext car is not going to shoot you for changing lanes. Get things in perspective. It is the drug hunger of the US users that is fueling the cartels. The fight is bloody, but most of the deaths are drug cartel members killing each other. there is going to be more bloodshed, and innocents will be killed, that is deplorable. Do you know anything about the US Mafia history of the 20's? The government is fighting the cartels, and gaining ground. Th Mexican people are in support of the action to rid their country of drug lords. Mexico is hardly a failed state. Which if the three North American countries is in debt to China? Which of the three North American countries leaves millions of its citizen without health care? Which of the three North American countries has had a complete failure of its banking and financial systems? Here's a clue: its not Mexico or Canada! Amanda, very well said. And you are NOT an exception. You are a bright young woman with a future. I hope you have learned Spanish from your parents and use it daily. It is the second most important language in the world. Regarding most of the others posting on this subject: I am amazed that people will write such racist garbage. Many of them have a poor command of written English yet proudly proclaim themselves as "American ". Which of the three American nations of North America are they claiming? I am a US citizen living in Mexico. I have friends of many nationalities and races on both sides of the border. They are educated, well read, sophisticated and wonderful friends. To be sure there are the poor, uneducated and ingonarnt of every race living on both sides of the border. And some of them are demonstrating their ignorance here for the world to see. Regarding Mexican workers in the US: Imagine how desperate some of them must be to leave their families behind to come to the US and do menial jobs. They send most of that money back to Mexico by the way. They want a chance at a better life,so they leave what is dear to them and move to a hostile land, risking their lives to get there, they do the jobs that most US citizens will not. And yes, if the Hispanic citizens in the US mobilized and used their power at the polls, the US of A would have a very different face. Perhaps that is what scares the ignoramuses spouting their vitriolic racism and hate. With all of the fear mongering and misinformation spewing from the US press about Mexico, Mexicans are still welcoming, gracious, helpful and friendly to foreigners. As someone else so aptly stated, some of you posting here need to visit a library, read a book, learn to spell and use grammar. And maybe in the process you will learn to think, and find some tolerance. Your racist comments are bad, what is worse is that you do not even recognize your own ignorance and lack of education.
