Standing Up Against Budget Cuts

SSI is DOA. The difference is you might have a fire and you might need a cop. It would be very bold of you to think that in some point in time you wouldn't need these services especially as you age. We see in the paper all the time how the same family seems to need the cops to get their houses in order. I say bill them for the time. If we had a plan so as people retired they did not have to pay for education in their town our retired community would have more discretionary income to enjoy their retirement. As the feds keep stealing money from SSI we definitely will need help somewhere. But hoping our government will do the right thing is bordering on stupidity. The 635 are for the 635 and no one else  (Jun 18, 2009 | post #41)

New Britain Teachers Await News On Layoffs

Please, it is not like the teachers are starving to death. Giving up a little money is a sacrifice? Back in the nineties we receive no raise for four years and they kicked in a four year incremental insurance payment equally 25% of the insurance cost. Nice double whammy that was. Let's not forget a good portion of the population is suffering and giving back. Unemployment is at 9.3% they are truly sacrificing. Be thankful you have a job. Hold on a little the economy will turn around.  (Jun 18, 2009 | post #10)

This double end around is awesome. Go to walmart and buy your crap from a nation that pays their help $0.85 PER DAY. The entire clothing industry is run by the Military and they dump the chemicals and human waste in the street. How about taking all your energy and blowing a horn for made in America. Buy American. Why don't you start a national movement. Then ALL the businesses could pay their help well and offer benefits. There is nothing unethical about not giving sick days. It is totally about the money and nothing else. Go buy a Honda and then complain about the auto bailout  (Jun 16, 2009 | post #92)

It really does not matter. A new LLC can be established thus avoiding the number of employees that subject us to the BS you are trying to pass  (Jun 16, 2009 | post #91)

Connecticut Lawmakers OK Bill To Ease The Path To Become ...

As an avid conservative, I do not think teachers or anyone else is trying to cheat anyone per se. (did you know it costs $ 268.00 per hour per officer to have a trooper at an event)? Yeah WOW. I see the certification program as two things. 1) An effort by the state of CT and the Union to cater to the CSU system. 2) A way for the Union to overpay(hold on) teachers to perform a job. By overpay I mean: It does not take a masters degree to teach k-5. I know public school teachers will disagree with this but how many world renowned private schools do not require master degrees and they are listed as "the best". Surely you (plural you and coworkers) should be able to present new ideas that improves the education system and reduces the cost to the tax payer (including you and your co-workers). Speaking matter of factly: It is frustrating to see budgets bumped 2,3,4 percent a year or more with what seems to be very little fact gathering. The spend it or lose it mentality is also just wrong. On the actual teaching side I hear your frustration. I was very active in my children's education and realize that some parents are just not active at all. Boards of education and Superintendents need to fix that problem. You and I can not fix that one. I think parents should be held to a higher level of accountability and at some point (how many strikes before you are out) it needs to rise to a higher level.(DCF, etc.) I unfortunately had the opposite problem of a smart child/children being bored to death. They survived but it wasn't easy. I do have a problem with health and sex ed taught at school. Not always but alot of times this stuff is taught by coaches and not what I would classify as a real teacher(sorry my opinion). I say this because (generally speaking) coaches seem to only care about their sport and nothing else. I have tried really hard not to attack, or to provoke defensiveness. It is hard to communicate in word alone. I wish there was a huge effort to change, streamline and be cost effective with our educational system. Unfortunately there is more fighting than fixing  (Jun 14, 2009 | post #91)

You are Soooo clueless just shut up. I can not speak for pratt and whitney or any of the other huge companies. What I get is about $3000.00 credit on my personal property taxes. (business only) That's the big catering from the state. The real problem in the country is idiots like you who believe the small business guy is making millions of dollars with his business. If we really work our butts off we make more than average without the benefits. We pay those our selves. How do american businesses compete with the millions of people who buy from china? They pay $0.80 per day to their workers we pay $ 15.00 per hour plus workers comp plus 7.5 % social security and unemployment insurance. Then the masses (YOU) go to Walmart and supports the eighty cents and hour country with, sub standard housing, no enviromental concerns, metal shaving, coolant dumped in the street right next to the guy taking a crap and you complain about small business in CT. You are a know nothing, uninformed, idiot. Do you see what happened to the auto industry? They screwed America (1970's). People started buying from Japan. The unions wanted more money, car prices went up, americans bought more japanese, prices went up further. Big three couldn't pay and the auto industry will collapse. Open your eyes and support Americans and American business. If I were to have only made in america merchandize in my store I would be bankrupt because Americans DO NOT BUY IT. If they can save a nickel on a t shirt they will screw their neighbor every time and buy the CHEAP IMPORT. And then complain and blame someone else for the collapse. It's Government, its Business, its this, its that. I'm sure you are the same way. Because you talk and only talk. I see it everyday BIG TALK and NO ACTION  (Jun 14, 2009 | post #37)

After thirty years as a slug I opened my own business in 2003. You are sooooo clueless. I have learned now how much money the state really takes from business owners and these so call tax breaks do not help the little guy like me. I work my a*ss off 7 days a week..every week. As I said you have NO clue at all. When you actually understand the inner workings of how the government really is, then and only then will you be able to shed light on this or any business related topic. Until then work your hourly job and do what you do best. Sit on your butt do nothing and complain about those of us who make you look stu+pid and lazy. There goes all your theories shot in the A*ss. Idiot  (Jun 14, 2009 | post #36)

On My Mind:

The State of the Union, Governments ever increasing control of the people.

I Believe In:

Small or No Government. Privatizing Most if not all Government service. Paying for what you use.. not what the Government wants to give away.
