Riviera Restaurant - Disturbing News

I stopped over at the Historic Riviera for a bit. It was closed but there was someone outside who approached me. After asking me a bunch of questions like 'who are you' this person started opening up after I asked a simple question: 'Whats the story with the street car / diner parked behind the restaurant?". I am going to leave you in a little suspense for now becuase I have to actually type this up. I have to make sure I get all the facts straight - but let me say this: SHAME ON THE TOWN OF GARDNER!!! I am from Chicago and know all about dirty politicians, police officers, inspectors, and everything else you can imagine. You couldn't write this stuff!!! I will post soon and will aplogize for the long read!  (May 1, 2010 | post #1)

End of the trail for Roy Rogers Museum

Abandoned in Arizona

It's things like this that I wish we had an 'unlimited' fund or at least more news of any fund raisers to save iconic buildings / properties like these. Too many are starting to disappear forever. I think it is a really good find and posted it on my site as well. Thanks for this!  (Apr 29, 2010 | post #1)

End of the trail for Roy Rogers Museum

Hey - I'm 41 and I know who Roy Rogers is!!! Can't they find another museum along the route (doesn't have to be in California) to store and/or display all the artifacts? I know of so many buildings along the route that the local State Associations are trying to save but the biggest complaint is 'what to do with these buildings we just saved...' It seems (another) Roy Rogers Museum (and not another Route 66 Museum) would seem to be a natural fit for one of these saved buildings. Just a thought. Route 66: Passion for road beyond skin deep

I was with a group at the Odell (IL) Standard Oil Station and one of the (American Men) said that he was upset that these 'people from overseas' come here to see the route and we have so many people who actually 'live' on Route 66 and they really don't seem to care about it. I had to agree with him - but it is good to see folks from all over the world coming here to travel the road. Ed - www.route66world.c om  (Apr 28, 2010 | post #2)
