Thyssenkrupp hiring process in Mobile Al.

Okay, who's got some GOOD news about the hiring process at the TK project in Mobile?  (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #91)

The only information I really have about Severstal is that they started with 2,150 employees a few years ago (probably about the time we were both hired) and were recently down to 1,250. Their goal was to get that number below 1,000. Whether or not they've reached that point I don't know. In April or May of 2008, I believe OAO-Severstal (parent company in Russia) lost close to 90% of its value in a Russian stock market plunge, so the CEO needed to conserve cash. That's why, after going on a buying spree and acquiring several new mills, they had to idle them. Unless the parent company (and the Russian stock market) regain strength, Severstal may not be in a position to recall anyone for some time. But that's just my hunch. I'm not an economist, just an Operator.  (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #89)

Ex Boomer: How recent is that news about the layoff of 20,000 and delays in starting up? Where did you see it?  (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #87)

Thank you, Sailor. That information is very helpful for me. I believe I'll be fine on those questions because I've got 11 years of Operations time, both in control rooms and in the plant. Safety training was huge in the Navy and in the nuclear plant where I worked for three years. I've been a QA inspector and a maintenance tech at Gallatin Steel, too, and almost no absences unless I'm pretty sick.  (Nov 11, 2009 | post #78)

I've seen interviewees dress in suits and I've seen them in athletic shoes & T-shirts. I'm wondering what the best way to dress is. I'm thinking that a set of Dockers and a golf shirt with leather shoes would be good, but my wife thinks I should wear a dress shirt and tie. Any ideas?  (Nov 11, 2009 | post #77)

Hey Sailor, what's the Operations Panel like in the second interview? What questions do they ask?  (Nov 11, 2009 | post #73)

Hey Adrian, what stage have you made it to? I'm in Riverview, Michigan, and have been through the 32 hours of training and testing at AIDT and the first HR interview with TK. How many other Michiganders read this forum? I, too, was working at Severstal Steel in Dearborn. I was at the BOF when the March 23rd reduction in force took effect.  (Nov 11, 2009 | post #72)
