Board agrees to recall a furloughed.....

They are calling another officer back. The article says that. That means 2 of the 4 officers laid off are gonna be back to work. Why is this so hard for you to understand?  (Jul 9, 2010 | post #17)

Not missed until they are gone.

Sam Trutt was a horrible dispatcher. The guy fell asleep every time he came to work. These must be the hard working people you keep telling us about.  (Jul 9, 2010 | post #2)

That's the beauty of open forums. Your opinion matters to you. I think your way of thinking is illogical and lacks substance. Again, the beauty of open forum.  (Jul 2, 2010 | post #152)

Three are arrested on drug charges: Men are picked up by ...

No they aren't. Drugs will always be around and it will always plague our neighborhoods. It doesn't matter if it's legal or not. It will still be abused.  (Jul 2, 2010 | post #610)

Herkert hired by borough council

Really? I was under the impression that Herkert was so good at everything, he would be the only one qualified to even work there. No wait, he probably has a few "cream of the crop" buddies in New Jersey that could use a job. Maybe they will just rename Lewistown - New Jersey.  (Jun 30, 2010 | post #64)

Council establishes police departme.....

I have a police department and it's called MCRPD. I'm not qualified to run the department or even be an officer, but Herkert obviously isn't either. I'm in no way surprised that he lied on his application and I'm in no way surprised that the Borough doesn't care about that. It's been obvious from the start that this has nothing to do with better police service or better management, it's a political game that the council is winning, because it's residents are too stupid to understand what's going on.  (Jun 30, 2010 | post #23)

Council establishes police departme.....

He lied on his application. It's his responsibility to know if he is act 120 certified or not. He doesn't fit the job qualifications. He committed perjury, bought firearms illegally and lied to the mcrpd board of directors about budget issues. Why the hell would Lewistown hire this guy? Political BS. You people are stupid if you can't see through this. It's not real difficult.  (Jun 29, 2010 | post #12)

The first news release was 2 sentences long and sounded like something the Sentinel came up with. The second news release sounded like it actually came from a police officer. The Sentinel is the worst paper in the world and you read it like it's the bible; when it suits you. You're a freakin idiot.  (Jun 29, 2010 | post #143)

Herkert hired by borough council

This whole situation is political. It has nothing to do with better police service. Borough Council wants the power, they want their pretty boy Herkert to be police chief and they want to be able to tell the police what to do. They only posted the position because they had to in accordance with the law There was 1 applicant and that's how they wanted it. If they wanted qualified applicants, they would have posted numerous ads online like EVERY police department does. The fact that Herkert didn't even fit the job qualifications proves that. It said you have to be act 120 certified. He wasn't, but still got the job. POLITICAL BS. And don't tell me they haven't already pre selected their sergeants and they will do the same thing for patrol officers. Cream of the crop my ass. It's gonna be Herkert's buddies and a bunch of kiss asses. Idiots.  (Jun 29, 2010 | post #62)

I was under the impression that he failed to get certified even while he was employed by MCRPD. Just one of the many things he just didn't do. His 2 years is probably up.  (Jun 29, 2010 | post #747)

Police unions don't expire unless the department is abolished and no service will be provided; except state police coverage. The time span for that is 2 years. If the department is abolished and the municipality goes with state police coverage, 2 years after that date they do not have to hire from their union. Lewistown is considered a joint employer of that union and unless they go without police coverage for 2 years, they have to give the work to that union. If anyone actually read the few articles I posted, they would see that in black and white. It shouldn't take a lawyer LR, but it's going to. Lewistown has a plan alright. It's called not following the rules and doing whatever they want to do. Your town is going to suffer dearly from that too.  (Jun 23, 2010 | post #715)

Bratton buys the least amount of service out of everyone. What does that have to do with anything? I would bet money that after Lewistown leaves, the other municipalities will buy more service. Why waste money this year to be lewistown's parking lot?  (Jun 23, 2010 | post #125)

Police Officers have to have a union, its not a choice. They fall under a different act than other union employees, which is why they haven't gone on strike after Lewistown offered their jobs to someone else. ILLEGAL!  (Jun 23, 2010 | post #709)
