Would you vote for Ray Midgett for Dare Commission

It has been a long time. Got a message about this post which was dug up from the past so I thought I would see what the fuss was about. Sounds like Ray is still acting like a tool - some things never change. Good luck dapster and lighten up Get Real.  (Jan 27, 2010 | post #37)

I read it was the Town of Nags Head and the Visitor's Bureau. How much money did Dare County contribute?  (May 11, 2009 | post #71)

You have a keen sense of humor. You would be a hit at First Flight Middle School. I think this would qualify as stage 4 - ad hominem attacks.  (May 11, 2009 | post #70)

And another thing. Ray... err "but but" posted that the county spent money on the land for the proposed convention center. I think you are wrong bud - again. It was the Town of Nags Head and the tourism bureau that bought the land. You knew that but it didn't stop you from spreading your fact and fiction stories. You have so much wisdom and experience to offer - but you throw it all away by spreading obvious lies just to create a ruckus. If you could control your nasty side, you could probably be so much more influential. If you want to complain about government spending - I am sure there is plenty of ammunition without making up stuff. Tell the truth and cut out the bully behavior and you will win over many people - myself included.  (May 10, 2009 | post #66)

Even, He is a retired state worker - but likes to complain about everything. Good luck getting him to see your point of view.  (May 10, 2009 | post #60)

What you are dealing with is a retired state worker who probably didn't argue much about waste while he was on the take. Now that he has to pay for it without getting his fringe benefits, he wants to complain about everything. Here is his cycle - I have seen it enough that you can read him like a book. 1. Make a claim about wasteful spending for project XXX. 2. Exaggerate claims - make stuff up to try to convince others to join his cause. He is smart enough to know how the system works and also knows the majority of the public will not check his facts. Many times he writes as "We know" ow "We saw". 3. Bully his way around town. Idle threats and intimidation are his forte. Not very becoming for a retiree but he really doesn't care. 4. Ad hominem attacks for anyone that questions him - yes he does enjoy fighting dirty. 5. Goes quiet for a while. Return to step 1. There are drugs that can help for this behavior - I even did a lot of research and helped develop the formulary just for his issues: http://www.ronnier oach.com/2008/08/n ags-head-discu.htm l I have to stop arguing with folks like this. They are much better at it than I am.  (May 8, 2009 | post #49)

Sorry about that. I really need to do a better job making my points clearly. I don't concede to those using lies and distortions to promote their agenda as the poster did above. My guess is quite a few would accept their lies as facts. This seems to be prevalent in politics today. If you read the thread, there were some real whoppers out there. We received a gift for Christmas last year - a game called Fact or Crap. It is pretty easy to play but here is a quick preview. Example 1: County Mgr/County Atty funding increases 26.2%. Crap - Actual numbers shows spending is down by 29% from combining the duties. Example 2: is it me, or is the $502,825 a year salaried County Manager/County Atty picking on the Sheriff and his employees? Crap: This is a complete fabrication. Example 3: Insurance for Employees: Co-pay from doubles from increase $10 to $20 and specialist copay from increase $30 to $40 Emergency room visit goes from $150 to $250 Prescrip go from $30 to $50 In network deductible increase from $500 to $750 Out of network deductible increase from $1500 to $2250 Longevity cut 50% 401k cut from 5% to 1% Sheriff Career Development (the only raises they see) cut by 75% Sheriff/Detention Ctr/Telecommunicat ors Holidays cut by 4. Fact - The cost of benefits continue to rise. You usually have two choices - less coverage for the same money or you pay more for the same coverage. It is what it is. Below is a link to the proposed budget. If you want to complain about something, use facts - not fiction. http://www.co.dare .nc.us/Announce/Pr oposedBdgt.pdf  (May 8, 2009 | post #41)

And you are so loose with the facts that it could be confused with outright lying. If you were to just state real facts - there would not be this back and forth between us.  (May 7, 2009 | post #39)

In 2009, Dare is near the top but not ranked #1 as you claim. It was mentioned earlier that there was not a Deputy Manager - he was handling the workload himself. You should be happy that the manager is willing to take on the responsibility of the Manager and Attorney. It saves you 29% vs. the way it used to be. Turn that grumpy frown into a smile for a change.  (May 7, 2009 | post #35)

And to think I was going for the "Thorn in the side of the Big Old Bully" award. Maybe I will have better luck next year. I know it is hard arguing against the facts. Personal attacks are expected - especially from you. Later.  (May 7, 2009 | post #32)

You might not have made anything up - but you sure are trying to stir the pot with inaccurate information and fuzzy math skills. According to the proposed budget on the Dare County web site, the County Manager spending went up 26% $310,000 to $377,000. All of the numbers are rough but I think they are pretty close to what I read last night. The County Attorney spending went down 100% (from $215,000 to $0). That equals a net savings of 29% vs. having two paid positions. Salary looks to be 377 for both duties - not the 500 you keep making up. But a half million sounds better doesn't it?  (May 7, 2009 | post #29)
