Should Stefanya be kicked off all Topix Forums?

Russian peacekeeping troops can only be ordered to withdraw at the request of the UN, if it is seized by a JOINT demand from both sides. Georgia alone is not enough. They must also have the request from Abkhazia or South Ossetia. Read the statute of UN peacekeeping forces before making ridiculous comments! So it's pointless arguing about it: Russian troops are in both territories compeltely legaly and there is nothing that Sakhashvili or you can do about it!! If the UN mandate is withdrawn from Russia, then Russia could in theory openly assist the break-away republics and bring as much troops and equipment it wants, free from UN restrictions. That would be catastrophic for the region, and not less for Georgia itself. The UN knows that, and even US Secretary of State Condeleeza Rice mentioned it. Sakhashvili is playing with fire and could trigger a conflict by his lack of diplomacy. Even the US secretly wish the Russian troops to stay.  (2 hrs ago | post #88)

UN refuses to include Ukraine famine in session agenda

By the same token, many Western countries, including Britain, Belgium, the US, Canada, Australia and others, offered assylum and nationality to many Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Tatar, Poles, etc... war criminals who helped the NAZIs, participated in mass executions in German-occupied territories. The West has harboured these people since 1945, and often resisted their comparition in justice. For more info, see the numerous request made by the Wiesental Centre. Why accuse Russia of something the West has been doing for the last 60 years?  (3 hrs ago | post #22)

Kuril Islands

I bet that if they were in US possession like many Pacific/Far East islands, you wouldn't raise no objection. You only complain because they are in the hands of your 'arch enemy' Russia!! Is that not the truth?  (3 hrs ago | post #14)

Why the Kremlin Is So Scared of Ukraine

Make up your mind! One one hand you say that you agree with me that the British system is undemocratic, then you go on saying it is totally democratic!! Proportional representation allows all tendencies to be represented, instead of being shunned and ignored. This is why to get anything moving, Britain needs outside pressure groups, campaigners and lobbies to influence MPs. I suspect that a large proportion of voters in UK abstain because their views are not represented by the mainstream parties. They become alienated and the democratic process stalls when people don't believe in it. In some UK constituencies, the rate of vote is 30% !! PR works well in countries like Italy, where government rely on coalision and cannot steam ahead by just ignoring other parties' views. PR may bring instability, but is in fact more democratic.  (3 hrs ago | post #88)

Why the Kremlin Is So Scared of Ukraine

The problem in Russia is that there is not a strong, organised and credible opposition; that's hardly the fault of Our Russia if the Yakoblo Block, the Communists or the Other Russia are seen as not to be trusted and don't attrct votes. But with time, an opposition will grow (Putin is actually asking for it, in case you don'y know), because the government is well aware that the 'check and balance' can only be achieved with a strong opposition and also because an oppostion will also legitimate the government. I suspect that Our Russia will split in different factions and form several parties, a bit like Solidarity was originaly without opposition in Poland and then lead to the birth of several tendencies.  (3 hrs ago | post #87)

From Russia With Hate

You are polish, Observer, as amply demonstrated by your posts on the Polish forum, the fact that you speak polish and visit the country quite often. You have in the past conducted lengthy conversations in polish on the forum, and admitted also that you were a Pole. Why deny it now? You have been praising Poland and denigrating every other country in Europe!! As for being a mongrel, I suppose that is the case for every person born in a family with parents of different nationalities. So, you insult gratuitously many people by that remark; another example of your insane bigotry. I know a xenophobe when I see one!  (3 hrs ago | post #27)

See truth about Abkhazia

I am not aware that political opponents 'disappear' in Russia, nor that cabinet members seek assylum abroad. Also, the Russian government doesn't close down TV channels or newspapers: Russian media are free.  (3 hrs ago | post #39)

Russia

See truth about Abkhazia

Probably why there have been mass demonstration against Sakhashvili in Tblisi for months. Probably why one prime minister, rival of same Sakhashvili died mysteriously of gas poisoning. Also probably why an opponent of Sakhashvili in the last presidental elections died mysteriously too. What do you make of the TV channels that have been closed. or the opposition newspapers that have been banned, or members of the cabinet (!) asking for assylum in France? Why do you think the US start to distance themselves from Georgia? Why so many Georgians living in Russia don't want to go back home? Democracy, or lack of it, is not something that is decided by YOU Observer!! You are talking total nonsense, and always end up accusing Russia or finding a way of denigrating Russia. Sakhashvili is acting like a little tin-pot dictator, but you still call that DEMOCRACY !! You are completely deranged !!!  (4 hrs ago | post #37)

Why the Kremlin Is So Scared of Ukraine

What is obvious is that you try to find fault with Russia because you don't like the country, but you are quite comfortable with the serious lack of democray in the West. The 'first past the post' system in Britain is indeed undemocratic, and a PM elected with a 'majority' of 40% is itself a joke!! The British system is undemocratic, absolutely!! Now, don't try to insult me and pretend that my comment is irrelevant because you don't like it. There is more democracy in Russia than in the USA or Britain. Russians can directly elect their president in a multiparty system through a universal ballot; that is truly democratic, like in France. Voting a government through 'electors like in the US or through Parliament like in Britain, is LESS democratic than the Russian direct vote system. Period! Russia benefited of truly democratic elections, with several candidates, regardless of what you or other detractors can say about it. I don't care much about foreign observers and NGOs who like you are bias and have an axe to grind.  (4 hrs ago | post #83)

Russia

Why the Kremlin Is So Scared of Ukraine

Necertheless, that someone can become Chief Executive in Britain (that's what the PM is), by just being chosen inside his party and not by the people, is utterly undemocratic. Also, Brown was going to call a general election soon after he inherited his job, but cancelled it when the opinion polls showed he would lose it; very democratic!! "the Labour Party would have one." (sic) LOL.  (4 hrs ago | post #82)

"Soviet Story" Too Scary for School Children

I am glad I make you sick, stupid Polak! You can't even look at history without becoming an emotional wreck and whining about the past all the time. You accuse today's generations like if they have anything to do with events that occured 80 years ago, just because it serves your bigoted and narrow-minded anti-Russia agenda. We have democracy and freedom in Europe now; so get on with it and stop whining all the time like an old woman!  (4 hrs ago | post #14)
