Yes. Thanks taxpayers. You provide me with a comfortable pension,after I worked for you as a public servant for thirty years. I appreciate it very much. Thanks again. May god bless all you taxpayers with the same security that I have been granted. Note: I too am a "taxpayer ".I contributed the same taxes that others have according to their tax bracket.I paid premiums towards my own pension which was deducted from my pay for thirty years. If I were to have put those contributions into an IRA,I would have amassed more than I receive today. I feel no guilt in cashing my pension every month. I EARNED IT!  (Wednesday | post #461)

The federal government did not start deducting Social Security until circa 1982 when the Federal Employee Retirement System went in effect. I stayed in CSRS,which does NOT deduct Social Security contributions. I retired in 2003. FERS had already been in existence as I stated.FERS did not exist prior to 1982.Everyone retiring before then were in CSRS,as were those,like me, who opted to stay in CSRS until I retired.CSRS is only available to those who worked for the Feds in 1982 and before and who opted to stay in. It is NOT available to new employees since it has been discontinued.  (Wednesday | post #458)
