SHS and Bullying

Hi... I'm looking for current (2011/2012) information about Sherwood High School and bullying. From my research, it appears to be a problem but I'm finding anecdotal evidence and nothing first-person. My son is at the Charter School and has been bullied there, mostly about not liking sports, and we're concerned about him going to the high school and not being a sports person. I've read about the lawsuit filed last year about an incident in 2009, but I'd really like to know if the atmosphere has changed since then. Are jocks given preferential treatment, as many anonymous comments say, or are they given consequences for bullying, as "officials " have stated? Thanks to anyone in Sherwood with SHS students who can help me find real information. :-)  (Mar 12, 2012 | post #1)

There it is... the "I don't agree with you so you're going to burn" argument. Preceeded by an incendary name-calling. Nice. Is that the same mouth you pray with?  (Dec 3, 2008 | post #72)

You are the one who needs help, my friend. Stop using your god to justify your hatred and intolerance. Homosexuality is found in nature and the animal kingdom, where the inhabitants don't have the choice to choose their sexual preference. How do you explain that? What if your god created homosexuality as a means of population control? It's as valid an explanation as "Satan did it."  (Dec 2, 2008 | post #64)

Ya know, it's not because we're liberal... it's because we're law-abiding citizens that we recognized that. Heck, I'd never even HEARD of that 420 drug thing until last year. Shows how out of touch I am with that lifestyle. LOL!  (Dec 1, 2008 | post #61)

This is the point I've been making for YEARS! I have the right to marry... so should you. It is so very plain and simple to me. Then again, I don't have a god to blame any prejudices on. :-)  (Dec 1, 2008 | post #60)

At the risk of starting the whole "sin" discussion again, why should she HAVE to be afraid to say she's gay? Are you afraid to say you're straight? It should be the same for her. That's like saying that if a woman was wearing a short skirt, she deserved to be raped.  (Nov 28, 2008 | post #42)

Okay, we've gotten sidetracked on the "gay is a sin" topic. Let's get back to the original story. A woman was beaten by a man who beat her after confirming that she is gay. We can assume he beat her because she is gay... the chances are higher than not. Those of you stuck on the "sin" bandwagon, let me ask you this: Because you believe it's a sin, does that make it ok that she was beaten? You are avoiding the that fact altogether.  (Nov 27, 2008 | post #38)

Oh good grief. Please keep your mythology to yourself. Not everyone believes as you do. And by posting this like you have, you are doing exactly as the radical Islamists do, insisting that everyone believe as they do. Can you even see that? I'll stick with what I know, facts that can't be influenced by mythology.  (Nov 27, 2008 | post #30)

Quite the contrary... I'm very comfortable. And I can't very well be damned to a place that doesn't exist. That's just silly. You might as well damn me to Hogwarts. :-) But thanks for caring enough to post good wishes.  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #25)

From what I've learned from my religious friends, god doesn't hate gays... he hates their sin. So they are welcomed to believe and worship, as long as they don't practice their "sinful life," as you so eloquently put it. So they can live a life apart, never knowing a loving touch, and believe in the god who MADE them gay... or they are damned to h3ll. I'd choose hell because to never know the loving touch of a partner would be hell on earth. It is so pompous of the religious folks to take that stance... it screams "we're better than you because we're doing what god wants us to do... but you'll burn in hell if you try to enjoy it too."  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #22)

There have been plenty of studies done that show unique genetic traits across large groups of gay men, leading researchers to agree that being gay is NOT a choice, but has evidence of being genetic. (Study in 2005 regarding patterns on chromosomes 7, 8 and 10; Study in 2006 showing a liklihood of being gay increases with a larger number of fraternal brothers, though homosexuality occurred even when younger brothers were separated from their families. Some DO choose to become gay, usually due to incest or abuse by older men when they are children. But the overwhelming number of gay men are not CHOOSING to be gay. Why on EARTH would someone choose to be a member of one of the most hated and maligned groups of people to exist? That makes no sense at all. I believe you said earlier that you know gays who don't WANT to be gay. If it's a choice, why don't they just CHOOSE to be not gay?  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #59)

Two people kissing, regardless of gender, is a beautiful thing. Your language is repulsive, your attitude is repulsive.  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #58)

If I didn't like seeing people kissing and making out in movies, I wouldn't go see the movie. I wouldn't demand that they never be allowed to film another kiss for another movie ever again. That's what you're saying. YOU don't like seeing it, YOU feel it's wrong... therefore, it should be banned, wiped from the planet, so you can live your pristine, perfect, heterosexual life. Too bad you're not the only one on this planet. There are plenty who support others' rights to be gay and to have families and to worship god (even though he "hates" them) and to have their parades, even if the likes of you disapprove. You cannot make laws based on your religion and there is NO OTHER REASON other than a religious one to ban gay marriage. Period.  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #57)

I* didn't force you to do anything. Who is self-righteous? You're blaming everyone else for your problems, not me. You think you're better than everyone else, not me. I'm just the person who supports equal rights; you're the one who thinks they own an entire state and wants to kick others out, even though you don't even live here. Cry, scream and cuss all you want. It won't change the fact that you are coming off as a very hateful, mean person.  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #56)
