Missouri's throw away pets I live in a So'eastern co. in MO, & I want to tell you about the situation here. Our animal shelters are full! They can't take any more animals! So those of us living in the country get peoples throw aways. This winter on the coldest night of the year,(5 degrees) someone dropped off 5 puppies. None of the shelters within 100 miles were taking ANY animals. We were able to give 2 away, but 3 stayed w/ us. We have 4 dogs already, 2 of which were drop offs. We couldn't afford the pups, but didn't want them to starve, or freeze or get eaten by coyotes. So we dept them & looked for homes for them. There are packs of dogs here in spite of the fact all our neighbors take on many of the dogs. One shelter said he hoped our co. would realize something has to be done, because the packs are getting out of control. Our co. has no shelter. Unfortunatly, the pups got sick & died. Whether they came w/ an illness or picked one up along the way, I don't know. Luckily our other pets didn't get sick. My kids were heartbroken having to lose these cute little critters to an illness. My dogs are up on vacinations, but we can't afford to vacinate every stray that comes along. (about 30 in 6 yrs) Please support your shelters! I love exploring our area parks & geological beauties, but it can all be ruined by the druggies & Jerry Springer wannabes! I havn't stayed at a state park for 8 yrs because of my families experience with these "people" . Really they were so high on drugs & alcohol, they were more like animals than people. I turned them in to the rangers, they were kicked out, but back the next night. We need to take action ! Take names, ID, & if you are ousted once, then you should not be allowed back in for the rest of the season. #strikes, & you are out forever.
