Chicago Bears' Ron Turner's aim this year: Find a playmaker

Orton needs a guy in Wes Welker mode. Lots of catches and knows how to get open. I like Orton I really do but his down field arm is shaky at best. It wouldn't do any good to get a deep threat receiver for him at this point. Find someone with hands who can adjust to the ball! Have defenses concerned with him so that Hester gets one on one match ups on the edges!  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #11)

Dude--seriously get a life. I know out in Kansas there isn't much to do but the facts speak for themselves. Choklahoma has lost how many BCS games in the last 5 years, how many national titles? Please.  (Jan 16, 2009 | post #58)

From a football standpoint I agree with you totally. From a money standpoint it's now or never for him. With Tebow, McCoy and Bradley all likely to come out next year Sanchez is doing the best thing financially. A move that Bradley really should consider seeing as how he plays at Chokelahoma!!!  (Jan 16, 2009 | post #29)

Bears GM Jerry Angelo targets QB as top priority

Nnamdi Asomugha and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are both unrestricted free agents. Signing these guys would allow Tillman to move to safety where his stripping ability would be better utilized and allow Corey Grahm and Nate Vasher to fight it out for the other corner spot. T.J. isn't a number one but he is very reliable number 2 and is good for at least 90 catches in any given year. He can play in the cold and doesn't have a case for the drops. Jonatahan Vilma is also available this year and as a 3-4 OLB would be great rushing off the edge in our 4-3 defense. This would allow Urlacher (who isn't going anywhere!) to stop faking at the line and just drop back into coverage. It could happen questions is "Is someone willing to open there pocket books?"  (Dec 31, 2008 | post #82)

Defensive overhaul should be Bears' top priority

That's because the jerk would just get into more trouble here. I mean man! Tank J. had a enough guns to supply a local militia and nobody got shot by him. This guy shot his self in a club!!!  (Dec 29, 2008 | post #162)

Defensive overhaul should be Bears' top priority

Oh one more thing. Please do NOT get Matt Cassel. He a career back up and does anybody remember the name Derek Anderson? He also has the advantage of playing with arguably the best hands in the game (Welker) and one of the best deep threats in the game (Moss). A line that knows how to block and a coaching staff that can outcoach anyone! He would become a huge failure here and it's unfair to think he would change all. Also remember Tom Brady was a nobody in NE to Bledsoe got hurt. Mighty funny the same thing has now happened to him. It's like Denver running backs. Anybody can get a thousand yards behind there line. Anybody can throw for three behind NE's.  (Dec 29, 2008 | post #154)

Defensive overhaul should be Bears' top priority

My thoughts... PLEASE draft for offense next year! A reciever in the first round would be nice. We're drafting in the middle of the round so all the defensive playmakers will be gone. A 2nd Round QB would be nice too since Grossman is gone next year. I'd like to see the Bears make a run at a BUMP AND RUN CB. Move Tillman to free safety--Payne to SS and for the love of all things holy do count on Mike Brown...Love the guy great player but can's stay healthy. Hire him as a secondary coach but don't let him put on pads. Urlacher has lost a step. Move him outside see if you can draft a MLB in the 3rd - 5th rounds and worst case move Briggs inside. If the linebackers there aren't great look to FA. If you are going to stick with Orton at QB. Grab a possesion reciever in the W. Welker mode. No since in grabbing a deep threat if you can't get the ball to them. TJ Housmanzandz will be available. Get him. He's good for at least 80 catches. Sign someone who can rush the passer. Either give Wolfe his shot or fill his slot with a true number 2 back. Let Peterson play special teams where he belongs. Get a guard who will play on the opposite of C. Williams. You can't have a brand new side of the line. Fire Babich. This is the NFL! You can not play 8-10 yards of the line of scrimmage. If your corners can't play man then they shouldn't be in the NFL. and speaking of corners. There is a young guy in Oakland ( I won't attempt to kill his name) with the initials N.A. who is a shutdown corner and plays in the pass happy AFC West, so he's battle tested.  (Dec 29, 2008 | post #152)

Chicago Bears' playoff hopes alive with OT victory over G...

A win is a win is a win!!! Get over it. If we do make the playoffs I like are chances. Other than the first go round with the Pack no team has really took it to us on the score board and won. Indy couldn't do it. Tenn, Atl, Car, all playoff teams and all teams we had a chance to win those games. Bear haters be gone!!!! If your a Packer fan and hate the Bears fine the feelings mutual but you clowns from our on city?! Go play in traffic somewhere. Lake Shore Drive during rush hour would be a good start. Look the team isn't perfect..yes we still need a QB and some WR's yes a pass rush would be nice, and dam **** that doesn't get hurt every year would be nice. But the the team is winning! We have a better record than last year! We have a very realistic shot at the playoffs and I'm sorry the Giants, Panthers, Bucs and anybody else can be beat...ask the Patriots. Either roll with the Bears or get rolled over. Hell some of you crybabies on here would find fault with the Bears winning the Super Bowl! "waah well KO only threw for 92 yards in the first half....Turner called this play" STFU!!! The team is getting better, is exciting and winning games. What more do you want! BEAR DOWN!!!!!!  (Dec 23, 2008 | post #102)

Day of upsets keeps Bears alive

While not a Orton or Grossman backer I 100% agree with this. The playoffs start tonight. Same concept win or go home and this is on the national stage. Orton has to step up tonight!  (Dec 22, 2008 | post #44)

Agreed. But I do believe that if the Bears have something to play for they will win this game. No way the Bears shut down Andre Johnson. My hope lies in the fact that he probably has reached all of his in game incentive bonus and needs to play the pro bowl to get the rest of the money. Maybe he shuts himself down? Wishful thinking I know. Still I think we can light up Houstons D. I see a game a lot like Thursday night agaisnt the Saints. One guy (Pierre Thomas) had a great game but we came away with the W.  (Dec 22, 2008 | post #42)

Also I truly believe that it was this game that made the Giants believe they could beat the Pats if they played them again. I think the Giants know this and it will be the reason the come to play against Minn.  (Dec 22, 2008 | post #32)

Couple of things Bears fans. The Bears will take care of business tonight against the Packers. We hate them and we owe them. Bears are on an emotional high and the defense will dominate. Believe it! I believe the Giants do have something to play for. Pride and the realistic chance of not having to play Minnesota again in the play with Minnesota feeling that they can win. Sorry as a coach facing a potential playoff opponet I belive the Giants will want to crush the Vikings to let them know they are not on their level. Besides..agree or not...I'd rather face Forte than Peterson in the playoffs. I think the Giants will play their A-game. The Oakland-Tampa Bay game is a toss up. Davis hates Gruden and the feeling is mutal. For Oakland this is their Super Bowl. Please believe that Davis has already told the team this is the most important game of the year. See unlike our owners, Davis actually loves football. He may be a total nut job but he's not in so much for the money as he's in it for the love. Houston scares me because of one Andre Johnson. I say screw it. Let him get his. Shut down everybody else and see if they can beat us that way. We don't want Slaton--who has more to prove than anybody-- getting loose next week.  (Dec 22, 2008 | post #31)

Bears can be successful even without playoffs

Are you serious fans?!!! Look up the word progress in the dictionary. We are all ready a better team then we were last year by one game. We'll at the very least split for plus two. We are moving in the right direction. If you want to see a step in the wrong direction look at teams like the Bengals and the Lions. Both of those teams thought they would make the playoffs and have taken huge steps back. With that being said I can face facts. Lovie's game day decisions are horrible! His half-time adjustments are a joke, and his penchant for hiring his buddies are a detriment to the team. But give credit where credit is due. Forte is only starting because the Bears got rid of Benson (and thank god that he is!). Do you think that Lovie didn't have any say in that? The team made the right decision in free agency by paying Briggs and not Berrian (it was either or guys). And also for all the talk about the O-line they are much improved this year without the first round pick playing any significant minutes. You think they just decided they wanted to play this year or perhaps coaching had a little bit to do with it? Once again I'm not saying we're Super Bowl bound this year or next but we are in better shape than most thought us to be. Yes we have needs. WR, OT, LB and possibly even QB but just as we were not as bad as people thought us to be this year with not as far off as people believe us to be for the long haul. No wonder coaches and players don't listen to the fans.  (Dec 18, 2008 | post #22)
