House Approves Offshore Drilling

Hmm . . . the millions of dollars of investment that the honorable Rep. Pelosi has in green energy companies doesn't come as a suprise when she is pushing to provide them tax incentives? Although it doesn't go far enough, this goes into a step into the right direction on drilling off shore, and I wonder if by removing the tax incentives whether this will mean the the cost of producing a barrel of oil off our coast will increase or decrease for the oil companies, thus possibly making it financially irresponsible to actually drill. Special interest regardless of what interest is never a good thing.  (Sep 16, 2008 | post #1)

Gustav Stalls After Hitting Haiti

I hope that all those who are able to heade the warnings put out by the government officials and are able to get out. And as we can see, rather then letting the buses be flooded, the local officials, are helping those who aren't able to get out of harms way. Fool you once . . . fool you twice . . . With that said, why are we subsidising a city that is below sea level surrounded by water? Why haven't we learned our lessons and redesigned the city to be more survivable?  (Aug 30, 2008 | post #70)

Man Dies In Crash After Border Patrol Pursuit

This just adds to the death toll caused by illegal immigration. If the person where to come legally, which is not a lot to ask, that they respect the laws of the nation they wish to immigrate to, then there would be no chase, or overpacked vehicle, or this fatality. There are millions of people who wait patiently to immigrate and become Americans. Why can't they?  (Aug 30, 2008 | post #3)

B-52 Bomber Crashes Off Guam, 4 Missing

Our prayors go out the family of the servicemembers who were involved in the crash of the BUFF. May they all be found safe and be returned to their loved ones. Is it no wonder that these airframes are getting worn out. For to long we have neglected the need to adequately modernize and maintain our nation's fighting strength. Even as our GDP grows, we continue to spend less and less as a percentage of that GDP on those who have sworn to uphold our liberties and defend our constitution. Let this not be another overlooked example of this national neglect.  (Jul 21, 2008 | post #1)

Obama Visits Afghanistan To Tour War Zone

The only reason this is news is because he hasn't been there before. Not that he's been crafting legislation to keep him busy or anything.  (Jul 20, 2008 | post #48)

Starbucks Announces Local Closures

I am sure that the dozens of regulars that went to these locations will surely miss the proximity they had to these locations, meaning that they will have to walk considerably further, or opt to drive to the next closes location. I hope the good employees of these effected locations find employment within the company, which is known for taking good care of their employees.  (Jul 19, 2008 | post #10)

Gay Pride Festival Kicks Off

Good for them. They are proud of who they are. However, would the media or the public be OK if other groups had pride events? What about 'AZN' pride, or Black Pride, or (when the day comes when they become a minority (which is sooner then later)) white pride? What about other minority grops, such as male college graduates (who have recently been outnumbered by their female coeds)? Or how about Republican Pride, a minority in our community? Will the media and these same people who are enjoying who they are be so welcome to have others have their marches and their rallies?  (Jul 19, 2008 | post #24)

Official: 9 U.S. Troops Killed In Afghanistan

They only report the conflict when there is a death toll. The media doesn't really care if we as a nation don't achieve the objective of bringing democracy and stability to the region, they only care about ratings. What about the name of these brave servicemembers who fought in our names, who have done more for or country then what most of us do for our country in a lifetime. Furthermore, I hope they have an inquire on the unit's activities. Someone must have neglected their command responsibilities by allowing the opfor to get so close to cause so much damage. Who wasn't properly conducting the watch? Was there sufficient fire support to repel a determined assault? Why is it that we are so casualty averse when in comparison these recent conflicts have had the lowest level of KIA and MIA in the history of modern warfare? Why is it that we do not sing the praises of these find servicemembers?  (Jul 13, 2008 | post #6)

Man Working At Green Card Agency Faces Immigration Charge

I hope that the company that hired him also gets the fine that legally should be coming to them. You always hear of them going after the individuals, who rightfully should be prosecuted. But what about those making profit off those who they shouldn't be hiring in the first place?  (Jul 13, 2008 | post #2)

America's Birth Certificate Comes To San Diego

Although it is not the same as going to Washington DC to see the Declaration and the Constitution enshrined there are the National Archive, for those who are unable to go to our nation's capital this is a worth while alternative.  (Jul 3, 2008 | post #1)

Man Drops 80 Lbs. On McDonald's Diet

No suprise. With proper portion control, and informed meal decisions, especially with the controlled proportions offered by large chains, one can establish a diet which will assist in weight loss. It comes down to calories required compared to calories consumed.  (Jun 21, 2008 | post #13)

Airport Parking Rates About To Take Off - Travel Getaways...

This agency is suppose to serve the public good, but like many other government agencies are just trying to take more of our hard earned income away from us. Their price increases are far higher then the rate of inflation, so unless the produce a concrete plan and show the public why additional funds are necesary, we should move that these changes end. These 'Fees' are just another tax.  (Jun 7, 2008 | post #6)

Escondido Sergeant Killed In Iraq

My condolenses to the family of this outstanding American. While other's of his generation waste their lives in low-paying jobs, this soldier became an NCO which carries with it more responsibility then many higher paying civilian carears would entail. His death, while unfortunate, should be a lesson to others of what can be achieved with the proper motivation. It is soldiers such as he whom we should look up to and call hero. Not overpaid professional athletes, or inexperienced politicians.  (Jun 7, 2008 | post #1)

Hunter Wins GOP Congressional Primary

Although I do not live in their district, but the heavily gerrymandered 51st, I look forward to a spirited race by both these veterans of our current COIN (counter-insurgency) operation within the nation-state of Iraq. Both of them bring a wealth of experience which would give much credit to the seat which is being sought. Saying that, I have to wonder if retired Cmdr Lumpkin's military expereince will cover his defeatist position during the general election, or if he can back it up given the positive effects of the President Bush backed surge of soldiers and marines.  (Jun 4, 2008 | post #2)
