Illinois woman accused of bartending in the buff
She lost the shirt off her back by investing in mortgage backed securities. Maybe Bush will bail her out! (Saturday Sep 20 | post #16)
Wilmette teachers inch closer to strike
I really appreciate all the unsolicited advice from all those folks living outside the district (who won't be paying the bills or suffer any of the consequences of a strike). It may be some of the issues the teachers have are legitimate. I really can't say. Nevertheless, the timing is really bad. A down economy is not good time for a strike. If I represented the union, I would agree to the school board's proposal for one year, not five, and ask that the contract be revisited next year when the economy might be looking better. Flooding causes major traffic problems
In Wilmette the rain has stopped for the moment. Here we have endured years of street and sewer projects and they seemed to have worked, at least on my street. Sure, I have a little water in the basement and the backyard is a bit of a lake, but had this happened three years ago, I would be up to my eyeballs in water. So government can work. Earmarks are not all bad. Here that Republicans. (Saturday Sep 13 | post #24)
Palin says daughter is pregnant
The McCain campaign released the statement today to rebut rumors swirling around the internet that Sarah Palin is not really the mother of her youngest child, but that Bristol is the mother of baby Trig, who was born in April. Such rumors, months old in Alaska, were fueled by the fact that Bristol has appeared at all McCain-Palin campaign events since Friday holding Trig on stage. It's sad enough that Palin's daughter is having a baby out of wedlock. It's pathetic that McCain and Palin are using this miserable situation to rebut a rumor about Palin and Trig. Using your daughter's misfortune to help your own political cause is about as low as you can go. And this person belongs in high office? I don't think so. (Sep 1, 2008 | post #3)
Palin is not to be trusted on family matters. She already has tried to use (abuse) her office to get her former brother-in-law fired. Query: why would the governor of a state take an interest in a personnel matter regarding a state trooper? I would not put it past her to fake the pregnancy. Her right wing nutball conservative reputation would be in tatters if she turned out to be the mother of a teenage girl who had a child out of wedlock. Some job of mothering. So Palin has plenty of motive to lie. If she did, McCain is toast. (Aug 31, 2008 | post #175)
Obama steps back from McCain challenge for series of debates, a...
As voter education, the debate format leaves a lot to be desired. I think three are two too many. Verbal sparring doesn't prove much. After, all, people could see Bush was an idiot, but voted for him anyway. If I were a candidate I wouldn't debate. What I would say is "I'll make my case to the American people and my opponent can make his." (Aug 2, 2008 | post #25)
McCain ad fights rival's celebrity head-on
Compared to Obama, McCain is just plain folks in his $520 fancy Italian shoes. (Jul 31, 2008 | post #10)
A look at key parts of House, Senate housing bills
When it comes to bailing out the banks there is precious little difference between the Republicans and Democrats. Now that's what I call bipartisanship! (Jul 26, 2008 | post #7)
Report: Iraqi PM agrees with Obama timetable, says US troops sh...
Obama and Iraq's own prime minister prefer Obama's plan. Now let's have a show of hands of those favoring McCain's indefinite stay plan. Hey, war profiteers, you don't get to vote. (Jul 19, 2008 | post #1)

Chicago Tribune editor Ann Marie Lipinski quits
Zell is a one man wrecking crew. By the time he gets done with the Tribune and LA Times they won't be worth the price of a paper. (Jul 14, 2008 | post #8)
Anheuser-Busch sold in $49.9 billion deal
Corporations and the countries they control are for sale to the highest bidder. Try to reconcile this with democracy and freedom. If you can, this Bud's for you. (Jul 13, 2008 | post #4)
Chicago Tribune to cut 80 newsroom positions
Revenues are down, so the solution is to shrink the staff and size of the paper. Will that stop the bleeding or just make it worse? Is the philosophy make the product worse and nobody will notice? Guess what? They will. Sam Zell, you may know real estate, but you don't know jack about the newspaper business. (Jul 8, 2008 | post #21)
New Trier's board weighs cost of aging
The campus in Northfield houses only freshmen. It has enough land and space to remodel and/or build a facility for Grades 9-12. (In fact it once did that many years ago.) Why not also consider that possibility? The old campus could be sold and the proceeds used to at least partially fund an expanded one in Northfield? (Jul 8, 2008 | post #36)
New Trier's board weighs cost of aging
I am a New Trier stakeholder, having one son who just graduated and another who likely will have to endure new construction or renovation. Old is not necessarily good and new is not necessarily better. I am eager to see the details and the costs before deciding which I favor. (Jul 8, 2008 | post #8)
