Green on Blue violence correlates to Ramadan/Fasting?

I have the utmost respect for Gen. Allen and all he has done during his career and while in AFN. I take strong exception to his statement regarding correlation between the recent escalation of Green on Blue AFN attacks on US soldiers. Fasting does not drive someone to kill. Religion plays heavily in the AFN culture. Mullah's influence most beliefs as most AFN can't read. Misinterpretation of the Quran and influence from family drive these events - not fasting. Most AFNs want us (US) to leave - but continue the flow of US $,$$$,$$$,$$$. When US leaves so goes the AFN economy and in will rush taliban. It is inevitable. I am here and see this everyday.  (Aug 23, 2012 | post #1)

Afghan government: Foreign intelligence agencies to blame...

The Afghan government has nobody to blame but themselves. They use a quota system for filling promotable positions and the officer ranks. Their system is based on the afghan tribes so 40% of all positions, regardless of qualification go to the Pashtun tribe. The Pashtuns are concentrated heavily in southern AFG and along/in Pakistan. It doesn't take a genius to know these areas are the heart of the Taliban resistance. Blood is thicker than water! Base selection for enlistment on qualification and conduct detailed background checks. Limit enlistment to only those who can pass background check which includes family lineage.  (Aug 23, 2012 | post #3)

Ramadan and non-islams

As an US catholic expat in Afghanistan, I do not observe Ramadan. This was evidenced as I had breakfast this morning in my hotel. During breakfast, I felt like I was being watched (more than normal). Is it envy, resentment or discontent as I do not fast and observe Ramadan?  (Jul 20, 2012 | post #1)
