so, has anyone else heard this...?

Hmmm, quite a response. Turns out it is true after all. And no Mr. Fife, I am not a criminal, it doesn't look good with complection, but thank you for caring so much to as if I am a criminal :) And yes, there were meetings, they simply had them outside their normal meetings, and of course I know why and what is going on. Turns out I have an 'in' on the information of the truth of this matter. Sadly, with Sherwood at the helm and his ever swelling head and prancing ego I fear that things will go over looked or he will spin out of control. But I guess those who thought this to be a good idea will learn in due time. As far as Sherwood being on the streets more then Elam, well duh, Elam worked day shifts while most people were working or at school. So of course people are going to say he wasn't out only because they didn't see him. Elam and that Sherwood are on totally different levels and I feel it is rude to assume that Sherwood is the better officer just because his Farva looking butt was seen more. And what about the other officer, Morris. He is out in the community and talking with people all the time, why not appoint him the chief? At least he laughs and smiles and talks to you when you talk to him, Sherwood looks like he's working up a big shit every time I see him, he barely talks to you unless he thinks he can hit on you (actually happened to a friend of mine)then the moment you turn him down he acts likes a beat child. To me that is enough to make me wonder if he is stable enough to handle being the chief of police. But hey, I could be wrong, he could end up being Wonder Cop...or I could be right and RP is in for a world of hurt. Either way I wish you luck and hope it all works out in the end.  (Dec 16, 2011 | post #13)

atchison county cops

Oh, boy! Listen to you all go! Listen, first off people who get in trouble with law enforcement seem to have a gripe about how unfair the cops are, they are a bunch of bullies who play by their own rules, play favorites, eat donuts and don’t do nothing productive for society-yada, yada, yada. They know you say it, guaranteed, and guess what?!-They still show up and help you when you need them now don’t they? The facts are; police can not give legal advise, they are not lawyers, they might suggest something to you to do, but that is all it is. As for them being trained to ’see’ what’s going on around them, I’d like to see you try it. No one can see everything, it’s simply impossible, and while it is nice to think of an officer as superhuman I have yet to meet one who sees all at all times, after all they are only human. As for police officers playing favorites, I am not going to say it doesn’t happen, but if you know it’s happening REPORT IT…DUH! Just as with everything else, the general public can sit around in their homes in their safe neighborhoods and toss dirt out the door at the local and county officers but without them in your time of need then where would you be? While I am not a part of the personal lives of those who bash the police, I have to wonder what it is that you did to get in trouble? I personally have been give tickets for speeding, headlight/taillight out, even one for a missing plate someone stole off my car, but each officer was nice and pleasant. Of course I gave them no grief for doing their job, so maybe I am just special like that. Small town officers are going to have a larger microscope on them because small town folks have little to do with their time then gossip and point fingers, so I have found out, and think it is sad that time can not be better served helping your local and county officers catch these drug dealers and drunk drivers that seem to escape the wrath of law enforcement while the rest of the community seems to know about them…as they sit idly by and watch…hmmm. But, then again, if all the baddies are in jail there won't be much to bitch about will there?  (Dec 14, 2011 | post #54)

Get out of a DUI

Uh, really? First, I haven't a clue who either people this thread is talking about...well I have heard the name Procter or whatever. But here is MY thoughts on this subject, judge them as you wish. Any one who is drinking and driving SHOULD be charged with public endangerment. Those who dont agree...image your loved one walking around with their friends and are unseen by the driver who thought they were sober enough to make it a few blocks and are killed or watch their friend get killed. Is it still an over reaction? Is a slap on the shoulder and being told just becareful alright enough to keep people from dying? I have kids, and there is no way I agree with anyone getting a DUI or MIP or other related tickets dropped. As far as the police being in peoples pockets...bullshit. I can see where some have recieved tickets or whatever and feel that the police have nothing better to do...guess it sucks to have people out there who risk their lives in order to protect yours and the town you live in, sure do hate it when that happens. Give them a break already, when you need help who do you think is going to show up? The dude who changes your tires? Perhaps the pretty check out girl at Walmart? That erks me like crazy when it is assumed that the police are the reason something goes wrong in the judicial system...well guess what birdies, if his DUI was dropped it had nothing to do with the police. As far as the informant and the people who hate 'rats'; if the dude is drinking and driving and I see him, guess what I am gonna call the police, it's a no brainer. Those who hate 'rats' stop doing shit that you would be worried about being ratted on. DERP! I want to live in a safe town, I want to know that if there is a drunk person behind the wheel that my fellow citizens will be looking out for the rest of us if they see it, I will do the same. I dont know the circumstances behind the Craig guys issues, but is it fair to give him an excuse to put people in danger? we all go through hard times, doesn't mean that every person with a license and a vehicle should be allow to throw back a couple and then hit the road.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #28)

dancing

OUCH, someone took their nasty pill before writing that! :D Well I see nothing wrong with strippers, I knew a few and they were hard working and capable people. I image there will be a mob of angry overweight house wives wanting to shut the place down and doing their utmost to demean any female who dares to work there or even look in the direct of such a place! I would be one of the wives who would probably attend just too what it was all about. It's work, and there would be jobs that even let you keep your clothes on; it is a matter of perspective I suppose.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #7)

Turbine

Huh, I had forgotten about the 'movie' that was made here...or whatever. But, what I am most amused about is the fact that some people find it wrong that other people seem to like it. Guess there are house holds where everyone eats their Brussels sprouts and liver. Who cares if someone liked the dang thing, where you forced to watch it as well. And why does religion get tossed into conversations like the wielder is automatically correct? And, no, if the details of this movie are accurate, I can not image it makes RP look like a charming village to visit when you are on holiday, but they way I understood it was they were filming because of the wind farms…there are so many of those things around that it really could have been anywhere-most people wont even know it was RP or probably care. Ebert has a point about the darker side of small town life…any if anything it rather it seems magnified because it is a small town and people have nothing better to do then gossip about the darker side of the small town… Who cares what your political point of view is, or your religious followings. If you are offended by the mere thought of this movie, then don’t go see it! Simple, problem solved!  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #20)

Rick Sons new sheriff

I will say this, if the people of the county were aware of half of the shit their sheriffs department does (and doesn‘t do), you would want them all out-of course that goes for most of the people in positions like that, like the Emergency Management people and probably some of the city council members in your area. As for is getting a new sheriff, it's up to the people, if you don’t like Dennis or Rick...then don’t vote for them. Just remember this, who you are voting in could be worse, you never know. Personally, I would not vote in Sons if I had a gun to my temple and I have my reasons just like anyone one else would.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #63)

Atchison County Methheads

While this is a very serious subject, I had a chuckle when I first started reading it. That said, there are so many good points here I dont know where to start. I have family that got themselves involved in this nasty sand pit of meth, and I can tell you that it is hard to break free from. Saying no sounds good on paper but there are those who feel that it may be their only escape from what they are going through. I have known people who drink like fish because it helped dull down the pain of abuse and loss, meth is a similar route. I am not saying that it is right, the opposit in fact since I myself am a survivor of sever child abuse, yet I have never drown in a bottle or found life so hard I need to disappear into drugs. But, there are many out there not like me, and many more that have such a weak idea of themselves they cant say no for fear of rejection. I have told my own kids that drugs are never the way to go when life gets hard or they think they cant handle something, and of course threatening to kick their asses if I ever hear of them doing such things doesnt hurt. I think that it is a matter of family and community. There are too many out there that wont say a word when they know where a drug house is, or if someone they know is dealing because they dont want to get involved. There are those who will 'protect' a loved one from arrest because they feel some sort of family 'love' for the person. But last I checked love doesnt let you kill yourself slowly...I might be wrong. And for people who wont 'tattle', what happens if that drug house or dealer is the person someone precious to you is hanging out with, it wont take long for the offers to try 'this' to happen. Will you get involved then? Meth and other drugs are most deffently a 'cancer' and it does effect everyone in some way. I will not argue that it is a damn shame to have to be the family member who has to raise a child born from the womb of a meth addict, but it is not the child fault and while the circumstances are less then ideal, here is a life then you can make a difference in, making a mark on that child that there are people who care and there is another way. I think I read someplace that up to 70% of kids born to addicted parents will become addicts themselves without intervention. As a former kid in the system, I can tell you there are a lot of kids out there that dont have a chance, they will never be placed in a good home, some even go back to their addicted families and repeat the cycle. So, yes be mad, be effing pissed! Just remember that there are times when families and community can do something about it, tell an officer about a dealer or a drug house, help a kid who has addicts in their family, offer support and keep being mad about it! Maybe I am just ranting here, but I myself am the product of an addicted mother, I now live as a happy mom, I work a full time job and I am a happily married person thanks to the guidence I recieved that kept me from repeating the cycle.  (Sep 21, 2011 | post #14)
