Mountain lion snatches dog from local backyard

As lions became extinct in Europe as early as 80 AD, we have to recognize they cannot coexist beside humans, pets and livestock. The only solution will be setting aside some true wilderness areas where they can live on their natural prey, such as deer. While I am saddened to see a nice friendly dog taken by this lion, I am afraid, as others posted, that nothing will be done until a child is taken by this particular lion, which has lost its fear of humans and is most certainly a great risk to those in the area. Someone must remove this lion before there are tragic human results!  (Aug 2, 2008 | post #35)

Man dies from freak fishing accident

My prayers go out to this man and his family. I once visited El Salvador, and have the highest regard for all I met there. It is interesting the today"s Our Daily Bread by RBC asked the question of us all, "Are You Ready?" http://www.rbc.org /devotionals/our-d aily-bread/2008/07 /31/devotion.aspx  (Jul 31, 2008 | post #31)

Bear captured in East Mountains

Good For You People! You have no doubt prevented an injury to persons and property! Once a bear crosses the line, there is no going back to proper behavior, usually due to availability of garbage-type food. Unfortunately in other states, like NV and CA, denial about precautions from bears will soon lead to human injuries. Bears are dangerous, just like Mountain Lions, and should be treated with respect and a healthy fear!  (Jul 21, 2008 | post #9)

NM man attacked, killed by mountain lion

Remember: DO NOT RUN! Shout this out loud if it will help you remember and fight the urge to panic when facing a mountain lion unexpectedly! "Do Not Run!" Shout it at the creature also. I have carried a small pepper spray for years for the possible mountain lion encounter on the trails, but having utilized pepper spray in combat with a drunk human being when I was a CA peace officer, I would caution against one putting much hope in a spray, especially when facing a natural killing machine, an original "Terminator ", like a mountain lion. Having heard what this creature can do to a school teacher on a CA trail, I would liken it to a run-in with a roaring chain saw! "DO NOT RUN!" In fact, as I have said previously, if you go jogging, do so with other persons, or a dog, and don't cover both ears with Ipod-type earplugs! You have to always be aware of your surroundings!  (Jun 25, 2008 | post #5)
