Hey Dick, why would you even say that?? ::::sigh::: I'm not quite sure why they call this guy a "person of interest". Once they post a sketch like that it's pretty obvious what they're "interested in". I hope that some idiot didn't intentionally start this fire. The idiot cyclists that feel the need to show off to everyone how fast they can go, and how cool they think they are, need to be picking up the tab for everytime we have to scrape one of them off the pavement! I drive Hiway 9 often and can't tell you how many times I have almost had a wreck with one of them trying to pass someone. They have very little concern for other motorists! Exactly, hbd. This kid didn't hurt anyone or threaten anyone. His folks live in Los Gatos, so chances are, they can afford to repay the 10K. If not, they can make payments like the rest of us would have to do. I feel like as long as the bill is paid, there is no harm, no foul. This kid learned a valuable lesson and maybe someone else did too from his plight. As teenagers, we all make mistakes. At least his mistake didn't involve robbery, rape, stabbing or any other form of violence. Yes, he was stupid, yes, he shouldn't have gone out there alone, but he did. I, for one, am glad the situation turned out ok for him. I doubt he'll be tripping again anytime soon. The fact that when he was scared, he called his Mom just proves how young and innocent the poor kid was. Back in MY day, the last thing I would have done when tripping would have been to call my Mom. Please don't compare his mistake to those made by stupid, violent tweekers. (May 1, 2008 | post #43)

I SO agree with BillyBob! If we had cell phones back then, my parents would have found me in the same place tripping on the same mushrooms! It's a bit of a "right of passage". HOWEVER...that said, NEVER trip alone unless you know what you're doing!! I think the boy should pay the rescue costs and his parents need to learn how to dicipline a bit better. "PROBABLY won't get to use the car for a while." Probably????? Sheesh. If that's all he gets he's lucky. When I got caught up there tripping in high school, I was grounded for months!!!
