A March For Jobs In Martin Luther King's Name

Well at least we know your radio works, you sound exactly like Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reily and Rush Limbaugh. Yes we all want handouts, had you ever stopped to consider that you and your answers all prospered doing just that?!!! Don't you understand that what we have today is a result of denying a portion of population equal rights and access? If we were denied our civil rights and you were not...what did you get? A HANDOUT!!! You didn't work for it, you cheated to ensure that you could keep that handout. Even if you did the work you still got a handout. A good example is baseball, blacks were prevented from competing against whites, during that time whites set records and some are even in the hall of fame! Once blacks were admitted those stats were almost non-existent. Today, look at sports, I single out sports because it's one of the few occupations that is entirely determined by individual performance. In other words, we dominate those sports becase WE WORK HARDER!! Your work efforts always seem more noble with the advantage of inequality tipped in your favor. And that is the fear, that those that simply work harder will rule while those who prosper on the backs of the underprivileged will become extinct. This is the era when America becomes truly America, when the downtrodeen and disadvantaged are in charge. Get over it, you had 4 good centuries...TIMES UP!!!  (Oct 17, 2011 | post #4)

Al Sharpton Debates Whether Herman Cain is 'Authentically...

No black has the "we are oppressed" mentality, what we have is "we are not equal" mentality. What's really ironic is we've all seen the footage of water hoses, german shepherds, church bombings and Klu Klux Klan openly calling us "N***** and spitting on African Americans trying to follow the law by integrating the schools and there are people who simply want to put that behind them as if it never happened because it's embarrassing for some. The fact of the matter is THAT WAS US FIGHTING FOR EQUALITY. So the position and place that you see African Americans in now is called PROGRESS NOT EQUALITY. So yes, there are rich African Americans, and a black president but we are still not equal. Herman Cain has his own reason for wanting to forget, he's a coward. People hate Al Sharpton for the same reason they hated Martin Luther King...and killed him, for the same reason they hated Malcolm X....and killed him, Medgar Evers, the list goes on...They were all black intelligent and outspoken. Everyone in the black community knows the courage it takes to be this way because it could cost you your life and the life of your family. Al Sharpton still gets death threats from whom I wonder?  (Oct 14, 2011 | post #125)

Lincoln was Republican but he was NOT a conservative. Do you not understand the position of conservatives? The tradition is birthed out of those who opposed the abolition of slavery. Lincoln was being backed by Abolitionists and Northern business owners who were being gorged by the Southern states....stay in school...read a book do a report.  (Oct 12, 2011 | post #118)

Cain: Racism not holding anyone back

It has nothing to do with skin. It has to do with those who believe in preserving inequality to ensure the gap between rich and poor doesn't narrow anymore than it has.  (Oct 12, 2011 | post #90)

I recognize you! You're from that city that's on the other side of the wardrobe. Get real, why do you think the government created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission?  (Oct 11, 2011 | post #59)

We had the tools one hundred years ago, BETTER TOOLS I might add. We were land owners, which made us business owners as farmers. We built and ran our own schools and colleges. There were huge initiatives to educate ex-slaves and the descendents of slaves by people like W.E.B Dubois and Booker T Washington to name a few. What so many forget is that we didn't arrive at the place by osmosis, we fought to get there. People were shot and killed, lynched, imprisioned, threatened, had property seized, fired from jobs just for being a part of the efforts to invoke change. We have accomplished a great deal but it's not finished  (Oct 11, 2011 | post #58)

The idea of race is largely a westernized invention. Anthropologists have long concluded that there are no distinct "racial" genes. In other words, there are no distinct DNA strands that are exclusive to Africans vs Caucausians or Asians. As for Barack Obama his father was Nigerian and his mother Caucasian, where do you get the idea of percentages?  (Oct 11, 2011 | post #111)

I am fascinated by the magnitude of people who actually believe stereotypes that have existed for well over 200 years. What is there to get if someone is actively preventing you from having it? Don't you know anything about history? Aren't you familiar with the many historical thriving African American enclaves like "Black Wall Street" etc; that were burned down by riots of angry whites? Blacks were constantly subject to this kind of ruin, why? Because racism is more than discrimination it's a sentiment rooted in ideals of superiority of a single race of people. The big picture is black prosperity angers some people. Don't you see the treatment of the president? No one is begging for a handout that's a fallacy created by conservatives. What we want is EQUALITY not CHARITY. You can be privileged and educated and still be denied opportunities based solely on your race, no matter how much of a "go getter" you are. If the people with the power to grant you access to those opportunities are convinced you are inferior your EFFORTS won't matter. With that in mind YES WE AS CITIZENS of this nation are OWED EQUALITY.  (Oct 11, 2011 | post #49)

Try and keep up. This is a conversation regarding RACISM not violence. People kill people that is not something that is exclusive to African Americans, it happens all over the world. The question is whether racism is still a factor in the advancement of minorities, specifically African Americans. James Anderson was killed by a group of teens who just decided it would be entertaining to go and kill a black person. James Byrd was walking home when men stopped him and dragged him behind a pickup FOR FUN! That kind of racially motivated brutality is unheard of by any other ethnic group in the history of this country AND IT IS STILL TAKING PLACE! So NO racism is not dead and it continues to be a factor in achieving equality for all people in the nation. Lastly, there have always been SUCCESSFUL African Americans at every moment in the history of the nation. You're showing your ignorance when the only successful African Americans that you KNOW are CONSERVATIVES and the president. Wait...don't tell me....you have black friends...LOL!!!  (Oct 11, 2011 | post #42)

It's naive to think that just because YOU have the tools that EVERYONE has the same opportunities. A more accurate statement would be "racism is no longer the factor it used to be" but that is not saying a great deal. Because the factor it used to be led to lynching, beatings, murder, segregation , wrongful imprisonment, voter intimidation, church bombings, assassination, etc;. These things may not occur with the frequency that they once did but we still see occurrences. A man was just killed in Jackson, MS by a group of teens who set out to deliberately kill someone based on race. These represent the worst case scenarios of racism and do not include the more subtle forms that usually present themselves in the form of discrimination. If the overt forms still exist what of the more subtle forms that are harder to identify and prove?  (Oct 11, 2011 | post #34)

Do your homework. The high school students and the college students were primarily the ones joining the movement and getting involved in the sit-ins. Cain is full of excues. Besides the movement was stilll in full swing when he entered college.  (Oct 11, 2011 | post #109)

There is no such thing as "biologically black", black is a designation of the American socioeconomic echelon. It refers to a group of people that the majority wants to hold to certain socioeconomic position and restrict their upward mobility. The sentiments are birthed from slavery but continues to be applied to people who have the appearance of african descent. It really has nothing to do with biology.  (Oct 11, 2011 | post #108)
