A bogus and biased attack on a single administrator, he's african so that automatically makes it his fault in the eyes of "some" people. That's a common misconception, that race is genetic. In all actuality there is no gene or group of genes that distinguishes one racial group from another. Some scientists like to word that by saying, "we're all mixed up together" as if over the centuries, the mixing of the races has led to a "clouding " of the gene pool. When in reality there has never been distinct, separate racial ethnicities of people. I don't know where people get this "I'm 1/4 Irish, as if there is a distinct Irish gene, or a distinct african american gene, there is no scientific evidence to support these kinds of ideas. No one is genetically black, white, aisian etc;. We're just people. People are so confused by this. Black is NOT a race or biological predisposition it is a psychosocial status. You're aren't black because of who your parents are, you are black by affiliation to any cause that threatens white dictatorship. Tiger Woods tried the 1/34 Cherokee with a pinch of Irish and they still deemed him black. Why? Because he represented progress for blacks even if he himself didn't see himself as such. Whites interpreted his success as an athlete as a loss for those who seek to maintain a majority rule in all facets of life in this country. We aren't black because we say so or because we were born that way, we are black because of what we desire as a community, which is equality. That's what makes us black. What makes you white is just the opposite, you do NOT want equality. When TW denied his "blackness " he was in turn sending a message that he did not believe in equality and was thus embraced by a white majority. Stay tuned...  (Monday Dec 14 | post #27)

I don't think it's us either, but I think those that know the premise of the movie believe it to be us. You're right Precious is an individual "fictional " tale but her ordeal with molestation, poverty, illiteracy to name of few of her problems are very real for many African Americans and Americans overall. If you want my opinion Precious isn't a story about abuse it's a story about the long standing legacy of oppression and how WE have carried the tradition on after slavery, the Jim Crow era and the Civil Rights movement. When we examine the history of how blacks have been treated in this country there's more to it than simply restricting our mobility and denying us our inalienable rights as citizens. NO the white exercise of power has been unusually cruel. That cruelty seeped it's way into the souls of our ancestors, our great grandparents who were cruel to our grandparents, who were cruel to our parents and so continues the cycle. THere is a message buried deep beneath the layers of this movie and it is one that encourages us all to break free from the stonghold of oppression by standing up and in some cases walking away. As disheartening as it may seem the message is so powerful that I find many people literally repulsed by the film.  (Monday Dec 14 | post #26)

Precisely what I thought, you may want to go and look at those statistics again. First and foremost the data you refer to was taken from the National Crime Victimization Survey administered by the U.S. Census Bureau. These figures do no represent ACTUAL crime statistics, these are survey questions asked to people over the phone who give singular responses, yes or no. I almost don't know where to start. Notice in these statistics that THREATS of rape and sexual assault are bundled in with rape and sexual assault victimizations without any way to distinguish the threats from actual rape claims. Here's a checklist: (1)Compare these stats with actual reported cases of rape (vast majority of rapes go unreported) (2)Ask any attorney, RAPE IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PROVE! You must prove PENETRATION, NO CONSENT, and FORCE. Over half the reported cases of rape cannot meet this criteria and never get prosecuted. (3)Blacks have historically been overwhelming accused and wrongfully prosecuted for this crime. I want to see actual statics that indicate white women are overwhelmingly raped by black men they do not know, as you initially claimed.  (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #47)

I think the real problem is we are ASHAMED of what Precious represents. We are embarrassed by her problems and we feel guilty for allowing her to struggle seemingly alone. She was a dark complected,illiter ate, overweight, sexually abused pregnant teen on welfare with AIDS. It's a culmination of issues in the black community that we have for decades turned a blind eye to. Think about how whites feel when a movie like Mississippi Burning gets released. They feel guilty and embarrassed and true to form they make up all sorts of excuses to absolve themselves of wrongdoing. Now it's our turn and we are doing the same thing.
