San Francisco: The Worst-Run Big City in the U.S
California got very, very rich off of agriculture, oil, aircraft and the movies. Then it began to believe its own cover story and built up the largest utopian welfare system in the country. While half of the state worked to stay afloat, the other half didn't even speak English and had no plans to. When it was finally audited, so to speak, California's utopia was broke. Busted. Flat on its golden ass. Its municipal bonds have junk-bond ratings and the state now issues IOUs because it has no other currency. California will have to give up its largesse and go back to work, if it remembers how. The underground Mexican railroad will have to close. Gay marriages, financial aid to whomever, and other non-essentials will have to go on hold while California and its showcase Amsterdam - San Francisco learn how to make an honest buck without printing presses. Gore: Polar ice may go in 5 years
You have been BOUGHT, you imbecile, and the price was too low to even be considered a bargain. YES the surface is warming. YES ice is melting. YES sea levels will rise. YES coastal real-estate will have problems. NO is isn't man-made, and NO it isn't going to be fixed by Boy Scouts. Warming and cooling are normal cycles on this and other planets. Neither you nor Al Gore can turn off the carbon dioxide being poured into the atmosphere by volcanoes, thermal vents, or other NATURAL phenomena. But Al Gore and an army like him can make BILLIONS off mindless drones like you who are ready to believe that the sky is falling, the oceans rising, the mountains crumbling... etc. The convenience of Global Warming is to initiate a divorce from oil as the primary source of energy and nuclear war. ONCE UPON A TIME during the Cold War the CIA needed a champion to go out and fight communism. So they put used body parts together and built a monster. It was supposed to get a dog's brain so it could smell out communists, but as the storm was rising, they mistakenly gave it a Cuban brain instead. It woke up, smiled and screamed (in perfect Spanish) "Down with Castro!" and the CIA knew they had succeeded. So they bought it housing, new cars, weapons, gave it credit cards, and brought plenty of young girls to its door. It refused to learn English so the CIA convinced the schools to teach its children in Spanish, made bilingualism the law in hospitals, government offices, banks... Every time the Monster crashed a car, robbed a store, raped a woman, stole from the elderly, it would scream "Down with Castro!" and it was excused. Soon the Monster had taken over the Port of Miami, the Airport, the local government, the zoning boards, the police... Its children carried knives to school and had guns in their cars. But the Monster was on the move. Convinced that Global Warming was about to wipe out the beaches and destroy what was left of its real estate, its handlers looked to other American cities to settle into. They had to be rich, fat, and easy pickings. The Monster learned some basic mythology: it wasn't really built from body parts--it was a direct descendant of the Court of Spain. It swore allegiance to any country, place or thing that paid it. It accepted speaking engagements, wrote books, remembered to periodically cry out "Down with Castro!" and it prospered. When I was 9 or 10 I spent a lot of time in planetariums and reading books on astronomy. All telescopic pictures of Mars showed a substantial ice cap at least 900 miles in diameter, even the fuzzy pictures showed this. Of course there weren't any satellites or rovers then, so it could have been a hoax. Current pictures of Mars show NO ice at either pole. Since there aren't any cars or coal-fired plants or over-populated cities on Mars, where did the ice go? There aren't any forests to burn; there isn't enough oxygen in the Martian atmosphere to sustain photosynthesis. So where did the ice cap go? Maybe Al Gore knows the answer to this one. Mayor Regalado promises revitalization of Miami
Actually I'd like to see speedboat races from Miami Marine Stadium. The water is too rough and the boats too powerful for the old Bimini race. But a series of unlimited boat races in Miami? I'll buy the first ticket. Homestead is too far to go, even for blackmarket horsemeat. The Fort Lauderdale Air Show won't be back for months. But boats is something everyone down here understands. Cherokee, I don't understand why WeeJee and Liger haven't taken out a contract on you. You have the audacity to suggest that Cubans may not actually be the Chosen People, that many of them are actually loud, rude, angry, selfish and arrogant. False pride is the opposite side of the insecurity coin. The loudest bully on the block is the most fearful, and easiest to defeat. Why so many Cubans are drawn to this desperate vestige of memorized manhood is curious. Outside of their Ford Expeditions they are as polite as can be. On the road, they are selfish children hiding their erectile dysfunction. Dogs do this, too. They fiercely defend the backyard of whomever feeds them. And WeeJee, I wish you'd quit paraphrasing me. Repair of healthcare does not call for reinvention of healthcare as a federally mandated and administered service. It will cost 4 times as much as a privately run system and answer to politicians, not business. In any case, it is a jobs program for minorities, not a healthcare system. (Sunday Dec 6 | post #1299)
If you notice the polls, opposition to Obamacare has slid from around 75% to around 60%. It's still a bad plan, a criminal use of tax dollars, a wasteful, nasty 'jobs for slobs' program dressed up as healthcare. But the Whitehouse and the Democrats have spent millions on PR and influence peddling to change that little pea pod on your shoulders you call a mind. Naturally, it's working. They're not "apes" you stupid SOB. They're weak people who learned to play the lower register of the system. Should the US have universal healthcare?
HEALTHCARE - Part II - Son of Medicare What Medicare proved to politicians was that a giant federal program COULD be wrapped up in entitlements, packaged with a humanity ribbon on top and sent out to make thousands of jobs for slobs. I'm not complaining about Medicare: it's the only way a lot of people can afford any kind of healthcare. And I'm not suggesting sick people be put out on the sidewalk for the crows. I don't believe families that simply can't afford healthcare should have to choose between food and medical care. I AM complaining about a giant Monte game, or "Follow the Lady" if you're not from New York. Here ya go folks, healthcare for EVERYONE! And it won't cost you a penny! Just pick the right card... Whoops, wrong card! Sorry, we'll have to hike up your withholding a little to, ahem, get this program started. And if you don't sign up, we fine you... Want to try again? Uh oh, sorry, not that card either. You can't go to your trusted family physician, the one who delivered all your babies and knows every inch of you. You have to be SCREENED by OUR nurse-practitioner s, then "evaluated " by computer and handed a code that you take to a pharmacy. C'mon folks, you can't win if you don't bet. Just follow the lady, okay? And so it goes. If you want to see what your healthcare will look like, spend an hour on line at the Post Office. Taking the healthcare business away from insurance companies and giving it to the Fed creates a population of jobs the size of Pennsylvania. That's what it's for. JOBS not HEALTHCARE! The Fed won't do any better administering this than the insurance companies, in fact it will be a lot worse. But by 2011 Obama will be able to say he put national healthcare in orbit to benefit ALL Americankind. That's called a successful re-election campaign and unless he really blows it in foreign policy and can't blame it on Hillary, he's in for another 4 years. It's a giant jobs program for a country that has lost almost ALL of its manufacturing base to China, Japan, Korea, and the rest of the Asian Tigers. Notice that Obama doesn't DARE suggest bringing manufacturing back to America with tarriffs, duties, quotas. He hasn't got the stones for that. No, he'll tear down one bridge after another and put Americans to work rebuilding them. Just like healthcare. You have to ask, could privately insured healthcare be fixed? The answer is YES. But that show wouldn't get the ratings. Could reforms in drug costs, insurance waivers, open bidding and federal subsidies make it work? YES it could. BUT IT WOULDN'T GET THE RATINGS!!! You don't have to be Cuban or from Cuba to be a pig. That's character, not ethnicity. You can be English royalty and have no class. Or you can be a Haitian street vendor and have more character than a French Canadian in his Lexus. It isn't something you're born with and you don't automatically get it with the language you learned as a child. But there are a lot of back-alley dogs in Miami who happen to be from Cuba, and they fell off the same trash tree they were on in Havana, and Cuba is better off without them, regardless of Fidel. Sooner or later you take responsibility for who YOU are, not who you think made you what you are. Garbage in, garbage out, regardless of the politics involved. The little paisanos in the street who can't buy their next meal shout for joy when some Cubanista shows up in a big car with a gold-encrusted pinky ring and a silicone girlfriend, and they chant "We OWN Miami, ha ha ha..." Sarah Palin Calls Newsweek Sexist
Newsweek is "allowed " to editorialize when it comes to Sarah Palin or anyone else trying to take a bite out of America. Freedom of speech doesn't just mean "freedom to buy bandwidth," and it doesn't mean that any artifically-insemi nated group can set themselves up as the Ultimate Filter of Decency to decide what's righteous and what's wrongeous. If Sarah Palin decides that the time is right to fly her kite in a thunderstorm, no one who thinks she's a fool should be restrained or silenced by some League of Decency trying to protect her latest profile from assault. Attacking her children and family is wrong, morally and ethically, but since when did that stop any of us from gossiping to friends and neighbors, much less putting it in print or on the air? If she becomes a valuable enough property to attract a George Soros character to back her wilted vegetables, nothing can stop her from bringing that garbage to market.
