Tea party protesters rally against taxes, spending

I say let them protest. I try my best to be a middle-of-the-road citizen, which is difficult in a country so polarized by its political parties. I don't know any more about what happens in Washington D.C. than what the newspapers and television shows tell me, and I have to take it all with an unhealthy heap of salt. At least citizens are getting mobile, regardless of how their views work with yours. The point isn't being right, but standing up for what you believe in. We won't know "right" or "wrong" until our powerful hindsight fills us in, so until then: left and right, go run with it, and we'll see what happens on the other side.  (Apr 16, 2009 | post #93)

Pot advocates exhale after AG signals policy shift

This isn't so much a victory for marijuana as it is for the rights of states and their citizens to decide what they believe should be legal or illegal without the federal government stepping in and saying "This is our court, our rules."  (Mar 22, 2009 | post #7)

Perdue: No tuition increases

If we can have so many exceptions that allow for warrantless search and seizure, then what is the point of requiring a warrant in the first place? Guilty until proven innocent, right?  (Mar 13, 2009 | post #13)

AT&T expanding 3G network in Asheville

Cellphone users can be divided into two camps; those who have never had a problem with their provider, and those that have had nothing but problems with their providers. I fall into the former. I've been with AT&T (Bellsouth) for almost a decade in Asheville and the only problem I've had was an issue where I could hear the other person but they couldn't hear me, and it was the phone causing it. I guess they weren't kidding when they said my mileage might vary. Anyway, the USA has been behind the rest of the world in wireless phone technology for some time now, but at least the gap is shrinking.  (Mar 11, 2009 | post #10)

Science leads to conclusion there is a Creator after all

Are you under threat of fire, stoning, beheading, quartering, or any other form of violent execution because you have spiritual allegiance to God? Are you herded into work-camps and tortured from wake to sleep because you had a bible in your house? Has anyone burned a number into your arm because you said a prayer of thanks before lunch? No? THEN YOU ARE NOT BEING PERSECUTED!!! And when you (and not just Yona, but every Christian) go around claiming that you are being persecuted, you're not only disrespecting the millions of people who have suffered because of their faith, but also those of us who just let others believe what they believe. If you want to experience persecution, go to one of these third-world countries run by militant dictators who will have you shot on sight for even mouthing the word "Jesus".  (Mar 9, 2009 | post #57)

LETTER: Why we sent Shuler to Washington

Look, I'm not a bailout apologist, but I have to wonder what all the people who are against the bailout would do in it's stead to fix our economy? And why aren't you in Washington right now trying to implement your illustrious plan?  (Mar 4, 2009 | post #24)
