No Principal

So then who is actually in charge of the vice principals? If you have multiple vice principals, who is actually running the school? I would think that Kilmer gave enough notice that the district could have hired someone. Shirley (in memory of Leslie Nielson), there is someone who could have been appointed as "acting" principal.  (Nov 30, 2010 | post #4)

Church vandals caught

"A caretaker of Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church, 88 Second St. in Boles Acres, found nine bullet holes shot into the front door of the church, stained glass windows busted out on the west side of the building, and pews broken and scattered inside the building." Busted out??? Seriously? This is the best use of the English language in journalism EVER!!!! What a joke.  (Oct 6, 2010 | post #5)

Superintendent search narrows

I think that they may actually BE listening to the committee and public. Many people, from the beginning, have said that if the right person is not in this list, we need to continue looking. Maybe we just don't have the right person; or maybe the right person is in the next group; or maybe we need a professional. No matter what, it appears that they are at least trying to get this right.  (Oct 2, 2010 | post #3)

APS superintendent search down to 4

Take it from the salary money. After looking at the current candidates, I do not see where they are worth 125+ a year....cut the paycheck back to 105 and use the balance to find the person. If the right person gets hired, improves the district, and doesn't mess it all up - authorize steady increases in pay as the economy allows.  (Sep 20, 2010 | post #25)

Too Many Events in One Weekend

I agree with Not A Problem. I think that there is too much for one weekend. Because it's all in one weekend, though, it seems like there is nothing to do the rest of the time. My suggestion would be to leave the balloon festival in place and reschedule the other activities.....oh crap on a **** - could we actually end up with something to do every weekend in Sept????? That's just crazy talk! lol  (Sep 13, 2010 | post #4)

Public shows no interest in new school chief search

I agree with you on that! I was at the board work session when they were discussing the superintendent with Mr. Harris. I was quite dumbfounded when they were asking him, of all people, how to select a superintendent.  (Sep 9, 2010 | post #26)

Superintendent search slows

You are correct that the Committee did, in fact, have a basic guideline for what we are looking for. Specifically, we developed a Supplemental Questionaire for each prospective superintendent to complete. Sadly though, a candidate has made the Final Seven who never bothered to answer our questions and return the Supplement. That bothers me. In addition, following the guideance for licensure, it appears that there are still candidates for consideration that do not have NM Admin Licensure. Just sayin After discussing the Final Seven with several parents and community members, my vote will be to scrap the entire list and start over or hire the search firm. There is, in my opinion, no one in the Final Seven that I can jump up and down about and say "this person should lead our schools".  (Aug 25, 2010 | post #39)

APS narrowing 'super' search

This was discussed in both Budgeting AND board meetings. The district contacted the military to see if they could force the high school to qualify for the grant money. The actual requirement was 15 percent of the population in the building had to be military children. The high school was at 14.something percent. Somehow they conviced DoD that they honestly and truly needed this money in the high school as well...and got themselves included. As of today, I have heard of NO PLANS for the qualified schools to utilize and/or receive any of these funds....only the 9th Grade Academy!!!!!!  (Aug 22, 2010 | post #77)

Ethics, You make some good points, but I agree with the others...if Hunter wanted the position, she would have applied. I already have issue with someone still in consideration for the job who hasn't completed the supplemental questions that the Committee asked to be completed. If you can't complete the supplemental, do you really want this job?  (Aug 22, 2010 | post #25)

Mr. Morris, It's obvious that my sarcastic comments were completely lost on you. The truth is, had you shown up to more than one meeting, you would have seen that committee has stood strong in our determination to do this right. If that means giving an opportunity to all community members to review the candidates and help with a decision, than so be it! One of the issues that was raised was the secrecy by the Board in the selection process. That issue is resolved this time around.  (Aug 21, 2010 | post #16)

Alamogordo police logs

Not only did this kid hit his mother, he did it in front of a cop. In any adult battery case, someone goes to jail. Not for kids. "Ok Johnny, stop hitting your mommy now and go play with your Legos". Domestic abuse is domestic abuse no matter who the offender is. Shame on this cop for making that Mom take him home immediately.  (Aug 20, 2010 | post #8)

APS narrowing 'super' search

This is what happens when military families move in the middle of a school year. Not this year for us, but maybe next year. Here's an example: A family moves from Holloman to Germany in February Child is a freshman at APS NM History class = zero credit Success 101 = zero credit Each class has to be reviewed by the new school to determine what credits they will and will not accept. If you plan early, and have a WILLING high school, you can arrange schedules so that your child can take online classes where the credits WILL transfer to the new school.  (Aug 20, 2010 | post #71)
