Maximum Wage Initiative

It is a sad day when so many people don't understand economics. They vote to allow the government to regulate what businesses must pay their employees without consideration of the after effects. My son will more than likely get a $7.50/hr pay cut from this initiative. Yes, his workplace put people on notice they would terminate 4 people if this passed as they could not afford to pay that many minimum wagers at the new rate. Being 'at-will' employees in this state allows most businesses to do this without regard for who they let go. This is just going to create a bigger unemployment problem in Albuquerque. Some businesses will just raise the price of their goods and services and all of us will end up paying for it. Many who supported this initiative have said families can't survive making $7.50/hr and I will agree with that completely! But you have to ask yourself with a little common sense what family of 3 is relying on the breadwinner of the family who is making minimum wage? Seriously? They would have to be living in a dumpster to live on minimum wages in this city! Minimum wage jobs are for teenagers and early 20 year olds like my son who live at home with their parents, buy their own gas, drive to work, and spend money on their girlfriend on a Friday night! And they can be very well paid $7.50/hr until they get the skills needed to be promoted up to the $9.00/hr job!  (Nov 8, 2012 | post #2)

Marshals seek 6 who left Las Cruces halfway house

Can you leave us your forwarding address when you get there? What the hell does this have to do with distrusting law enforcement? What did they have to do with it? Some people on here sound like they fit in with the crowd that walked away from the transition house... Let me know when you get where you are walking to.  (Feb 9, 2012 | post #20)

And you have another explanation that could possibly go beyond passing legislation that makes our state safer for you and your family? Tell us all why they wouldn't want to do this... Please.  (Feb 9, 2012 | post #4)

You know, I hate them here, I hate them there, I hate them just about any where. On a bus or in a rush, they can yak faster than most of us. But, please don't yap while you are murdering my child while driving your car, after you've left the bar, it will leave a big scar on my little star! I really wish the cell phone industry would develop just a smidge of responsibility and install the means to disable their devices when they exceed 10 mph or so. Other than that, I will fully agree with Lobo and be the first buyer on the block. My wife owns a home daycare and parents will sit in the driveway and talk for 40 minutes (even past closing time) talking on their cell phones instead of picking up their children. I have been just rude enough to deliver their child to their vehicle to so they can be on their way. (and they just think I am rude) I would zap the signals around my house for drop off and pickup times for sure.  (Feb 9, 2012 | post #8)

Cancel credit card when you die, or have someone do it fo...

This reminds me of past history with a cable company in Alaska. I called them to turn off my cable and close my account. They said that was fine, but I needed to stop in the local office to pay my final bill about a week after they shut off my cable. I was leaving the state in 3 days, so went to clear up my account anyway. They calculated my charges, I paid and they gave me a receipt. They also wanted a forwarding address. I gave it to them. About a month later, I got a bill, with a credit for 15 cents. I wasn't going to waste double that on a stamp to ask them to send me my 15 cents, so I ignored it. My logic tends to believe someone in accounting will notice this next month and write it off. They continued to bill me for the next 2 and half years!! 4 times I sent them a reply (but never to ask for my money) asking them to pocket the large sum of funds and stop sending me a bill. Since they were only wasting their postage to send these bills 4000 miles to an out-of-state customer with a credit of 15 measly cents and couldn't get it through their thick heads, I eventually gave up. I still got the billings for another 6 months or so before they stopped coming, but I am just sure there is a suspended file sitting on a shelf somewhere with billing documentation for someone to pick up and research again some day... Perhaps after I am dead!  (Nov 25, 2011 | post #5)

Is it time for a new Lobo football coach?

Do they have anyone on staff down there that has been to college and proficiently write a contract? "Coach agrees to be paid $XXX,XXX/year. Continuation of the contract is based on winning games. Win more than you lose, you can stay. Lose more than you win, find a new home and forfeit 100% of your earnings. Sign here: ____________" Add-on if so desired: Will pay a bonus for all games over the 50% win mark... $xx,xxx/game How much more simple do they have to make it?  (Sep 4, 2011 | post #4)

Albuquerque gets new officers

28 of 44 cadets graduated? What happened to the other 16? Failed to pass the corruption exam? Just kidding! Congratulations to those that did and God bless them for taking on such a noble job in this town! We need them, want them and are glad to have them. I served 20 years in the military and would not want to face the next 20 years as a police officer doing duty in this city! Take care of us well!  (May 20, 2011 | post #1)

Bicyclist's bill fines too-close motorists

This bill must also apply the reserve logic. Any rider caught riding in the traffic lanes will be stopped and fined $50 for not riding safely. The alternative is death. Stop blaming motorist for your problems all the time. (BTW, I used to be a bicycle rider. Gave it up for my own health)  (Jan 25, 2011 | post #1)

House Democrats to elect leadership team

Who do you support for Governor in New Mexico in 2010?

I'm sorry JLoR. Trying to keep the traffic down so people like you don't get bothered by spam from accounts that get hacked like mine... Other than that, just working a new job since the BO man took my last 2 away.  (Nov 21, 2010 | post #787)

Dishwasher Nightmare - White Residue Stains on Dishes

OK, now that we are somewhat back on topic, you can also get a product from Target called Lemi-Shine from a manufacturer called Envirocon Technologies, Inc. It also claims to be phosphate free, but you put some of it in the detergent dispenser along with detergent and it overcomes the lack of phosphate in the soap. I just switched to using Finish brand detergent instead of Cascade and this Lemi-Shine and am on the third load of dishes in reviving all of my 'thought-to-ruined' dishes and silverware. It is bringing them back from the dead. It is advertised as a hard water spot and film remover, so it works to attack what the phosphate used to I'm guessing. I am satisfied with it. Hope others will be too. It was $3.69 for a bottle that claims to be good for 18 loads. It will be nice to have crystal clear dishes for the kids in my wife's daycare again!  (Nov 21, 2010 | post #18)

What religion does Barack Obama practice?

Religion? Doesn't matter much. Government? He seems to be putting in just a little too much 'PRACTICE' in that area of his life. Maybe he should start thinking about the 'real' thing instead of just playing a round of practice that is screwing up our country. Then he can go to whatever church or mosque he chooses and cleanse his soul and think about making to his version of heaven...  (Oct 15, 2010 | post #8)
