Deferral period for sexually active gay men to give blood...

Really? You know every gay person on such an intimate basis that you know when they have sex, and how often? Well, my spouse and I are completely monogamous, and have been together for well over 40 years. I can't remember the last time we had sex two days in a row, or even with just one day in between. Shows just how far your head is up your place the sun don't shine. I must give you credit, though, for making the most completely moronic statement I have read for some time.  (Tuesday Jun 21 | post #3)

I know how you meant that, and I agree with the sarcasm, but remember the saying, "scratch a homophobe and you'll find a racist". So I doubt any of our anti-gay posters will be booking a flight to Kenya any time soon.  (Friday Jun 17 | post #8)

Barack Obama to go to Orlando to pay respects to victims ...

I remember, vividly, when the police in the south set their dogs on the African-Americans, as well as other assorted attacks on them. Many were either injured or killed by those types of actions, but the actions also broadened the sympathy for the cause of Equality. Yes, it helped the solidarity of those attacked, but it also brought many more to their cause. Thus, it shall be for this incident, and others that may follow, I hope.  (Wednesday Jun 15 | post #11)

Barack Obama to go to Orlando to pay respects to victims ...

Yeah, maybe. I used to feel that way about lots of folks. Then I discovered that my hate for others was damaging me more than them. I don't have the words to explain it, but I can assure you that once you open your mind and heart, and actually get to know people and their lives, you too can begin to shed the self oppressive feeling of hate. And whether you believe that or not, a good and loving nature is there for the taking. If you reach just a little, you can grab hold of it. However, if you want to wallow in the filth that is hate, that is your right.  (Tuesday Jun 14 | post #6)

Barack Obama to go to Orlando to pay respects to victims ...

In reading all the news reports about this tragedy something has become very obvious to me. These haters can beat us, they can maim us, and they can kill us, but they accomplish the exact opposite of what they want. With every incident they touch the lives of friends and families and strangers with the horrific acts that are enacted. Those who see and hear of the acts become emotionally touched, and become our allies. We become real to them in a way that that shows we are just people like them.....we love our families and our chosen mates, and we present no danger to others in the way we live our lives. When people see that, and see the hate directed towards us they are more likely to stand up and say, "Enough is enough". It comes with great loss, but produces unintended good.  (Tuesday Jun 14 | post #3)

Bodies removed after worst mass shooting in US history

True enough, although I wasn't really thinking in terms of antiquity. I suppose it's in our nature. I just always hoped that someday we would see the light. I suppose it's too much to hope for in my lifetime.  (Monday Jun 13 | post #13)

Yes, we are a blood thirsty country. And we seem to find a way to do it with or without automatic weapons. Too many people think in terms of Manifest Destiny, and there are those in our own country that presume to think of it in terms of the world.  (Monday Jun 13 | post #10)

What Clinton's and Trump's responses to the Orlando shoot...

I just Googled "American mass murders" and got a list of like 50 incidents since 1984. Read them here http://timelines.l atimes.com/deadlie st-shooting-rampag es/ and count the number of what appear to be Muslims as perpetrators. You will find that in the over-all list few are Muslims. I must admit that when I first heard about Orlando yesterday some very unflattering words popped into my head about Muslims in general. I reflected most of of the day, on and off, about it. I reached the conclusion that my first impressions were from that bit of bigotry that still resides somewhere in my head. I realize now that yes, some Muslims measure up to my very first impressions. But, then again, so do some Christians and some of other groups. No solution which includes punishing all members of a certain group, or groups, is the answer. I don't have the answers, but I know that Trump's "all or nothing" approach is not it. Simplistic answers to complex issues are usually wrong, and Trump seems to have nothing but simplistic answers.  (Monday Jun 13 | post #44)

Affirming the value of every person under God

Or, the churches could do what the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod used to do (and maybe still do for all I know), offer Communion using individual serving glasses. When I was a kid that was one of the things I did on Sunday morning. Arrive early and fill all those little glasses and put them in the little holes on the serving tray. I had to pour anywhere from 100 to 200 every week. The people would sign up during the week before for either individual cup or common cup. If there was any left at the end of the service the minister would dump them into a small plot of ground over which he mumbled a prayer. Such a waste of good wine.  (Friday Jun 3 | post #3)

Gay marriage victory at Supreme Court triggering backlash

You are probably correct in your assumption about the group of straight people you are discussing in that post. They most likely do have half a brain.  (Friday Jun 3 | post #64)

Florida's bill for opposing gay marriage? Nearly $500

A total waste of taxpayer money that did not need to happen if the politicians got back to properly representing their constituents, and got rid of their bigotry.  (Friday Jun 3 | post #1)

'Gay sex causes earthquakes' says conservative Muslim...

All I know about this I experienced first-hand when a tornado tore through this area a few years ago. The couple living next door, a retired straight couple, had their place so badly torn up they had to move out for 4 months. My husband and I lost a screen door. I guess "god" was aiming for our place, but he's so old now his aim is way off.  (Tuesday May 31 | post #50)
