re letter on the So. Pasadena school district: "If a high-level administrator suddenly resigns or dies, is there anybody capable of assuming their duties? ". The real question is, "would anyone notice?". It's teachers who do the work.  (Dec 15, 2009 | post #1)

POWER: I didn't call you anti-gun. And don't assume that you have more experience with guns than I do. Maybe you do, maybe you don't, but I have a hell of a lot. Being military and carrying an M4 or M16 around doesn't make anyone an expert, and it doesn't make you pro-gun necessarily either. My son is active duty, and he doesn't think "regular " people should be carrying guns around either. It's a mindset that military and police get, that they're the only ones "qualified " to carry, and that everyone else should submit to authority. I'm not saying you're that way, but I've seen it a lot. By the way I appreciate your service in Iraq; you're a good man for doing that, and you have my respect. And hey, what's wrong with liking the Raiders... it's good clean fun.. well mostly. Peace.  (Dec 1, 2009 | post #52)

"MOST journalists, at least the print variety, believe it is their sworn duty to comfort the afflicted, represent the underrepresented, give voice to the voiceless.". And that is precisely what journalists should not be doing. How about they just report the facts? I know that's a lost art in most quarters, but give it a try. Leave advocacy to others.  (Dec 1, 2009 | post #1)

For first time since Prop. 13, property taxes to go down

It's not much, but at least it's a reduction. I've gotten so sick over the years watching L.A. County raise my taxes 2 percent every year, whether they needed it or not, simply because they could. Nice to see it go the other way for a change.  (Dec 1, 2009 | post #4)

The only BS is your statement. IF the man had a gun, on him, and situational awareness (which we all should be using nowadays), then he had a chance. No guarantee, but a chance. That's better than lying back and taking it like you gun-hating fools think we should.  (Nov 30, 2009 | post #14)

Another View: Conserving TV electrons

Let's see, how hard will this be to circumvent? When I'm ready for that new big screen, what's to stop me from driving to Nevada or Arizona and buying whichever model I darn well please? (and pay lower sales taxes as a bonus!). How stupid do these regulators think we are, and how long do they think we're going to keep bending over and taking what they think is best for us.  (Nov 25, 2009 | post #1)

Our View: Knocking on the door

Some Walnut / Diamond Bar NIMBYs mouthing off. Ignore them. Bring the Raiders in, yeh! I mean, by 2013 they will be better, I got a feeling.  (Nov 24, 2009 | post #4)

Letters to the editor: Opinions on Obama

But is what he says false? (not in your eyes, but in reality?). He doesn't have to be a "real" reporter to put facts and reasoned opinions out there.  (Nov 24, 2009 | post #6)

Our View: Shell games of past budgets

Riiiiight. Lose the 2/3 requirement, and just watch what happens to your taxes then. And shortly thereafter, you'll see a real tax revolt. Heads on a stick! And oh yeah... go Raiders!!!  (Nov 23, 2009 | post #10)

Our View: Shell games of past budgets

Redrawing the districts will be a great thing, if done right. But to hope that this will result in election of "moderates " of both parties who will somehow have all the common sense in the world and pass sensible budgets is highly naive. A legislature full of unprincipled moderates will almost certainly raise taxes, as there will be few to none of those principled taxpayer advocates usually known as Reagan Republicans.  (Nov 20, 2009 | post #1)

Letters to the editor: Opinions on Obama

re the 'meatless thanksgiving" letter: These vegetarian nut jobs come out of the woodwork on a regular basis, and will try to use any hook to hang their agenda on. It's getting tiresome. Let people eat meat for gosh sakes, and you can go have your squash or whatever suits you.  (Nov 19, 2009 | post #3)

Our View: Cottrell should do the time

OMG, let him return to study at Caltech? I don't think so. Keep this little cretin in jail, or at the very least, keep him far away from here.  (Nov 12, 2009 | post #1)
