Putting A-line lamps in a plant that has never made them before and counting on them to hit the fill rate necessary to keep Lowes, Wal Mart and such... Brilliant!!!! I don't know who they think is going to run those things, but I can tell you with great certainty that you won't be seeing a lot, if any experienced mechanics wanting to pref hire into lighting, especially in the middle of nowhere in a bad climate for way less money. Best of luck, guys.  (Jun 19, 2013 | post #5509)

Say what you want about Ohio Lamp, but that plant has whupped every other plant in the world on a consistent basis on customer service, fill rate and production. GE is losing its best workforce, hands down.  (Jun 7, 2013 | post #5477)

There was not a single penny in concessions on pensions in the proposed agreement. Anyone who was eligible to retire with benefits would have been able to continue to work until age 60, retire at will from any point thereafter and still have their best 3 consecutive years in their last 10 worked fall under the former higher wages. It was the young workers who were taking the hit. They would have had to work aroun ten years just to get back to the wage they had been making previously. This would have affected their pensions, but not those retiring now or within the next 7 years. So any older worker trying to claim they were getting screwed is full of it. As far as voting for "what is best for me", is that the kind of person you want to be? If I saw a toddler wandering out into a busy 4 lane road it would not be best for me to run out into that traffic and put myself in danger to protect that child, but I would have the ethical responsibility to do so. It does not benefit a fireman to run into a burning building, but he does it because it is the right thing to do. The difference between these two examples and the people who voted to CLOSE AN ENTIRE PLANT is that the guy running into the road and the fireman stand to lose everything by doing the right thing. The old people at Ohio Lamp were not losing anything whatsoever. They just made a decision that a full pension, medical benefits and in many cases a 3/4 of an entire year's salary bonus to retire was not enough money. The money they had earned was not enough for them. They wanted that money AND the younger workers' money. They are your typical selfish, entitled and heartless types who make this world less of a good place. Again, they are entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts.  (Jun 6, 2013 | post #5471)

Telling it like it is and calling people out on their lies is not "bashing. " It is simply clearing up misinformation. The people who voted to kill the Ohio Lamp deal so they could cash in on the backs of younger workers with families to provide for are desperately trying to spin this to be GE's fault. They know they sold their souls to retire early and want to change the public perception of their evil deed to where they are somehow the victim in all of this. It will not work. I don't know how you all sleep at night knowing what you did to so many single mothers, children, and working class families who worked hard for close to two decades making Ohio Lamp profitable so that you could reach retirement age only to have you turn around and throw them overboard for a little more coin in your pocket. Or so you can move to Florida now instead of waiting 3 years. Ohio Lamp was guaranteed 3 more years at a minimum with the chance to establish themselves as a core facility for the future. This is indisputable and can be verified by the written copy of the proposed deal. So while you may have the right to your own opinion, you do not have the right to your own facts.  (Jun 3, 2013 | post #5459)

Um, it was IN WRITING in the deal you voted down. You really should take the time to read things that affect your life. If the words were too big, you should have had your grandchildren read it for you. So you are either a liar or just incredibly slow on the uptake. Either or, it doesn't bode well for your credibility.  (Jun 3, 2013 | post #5453)

That's a bold faced lie. The deal would have guaranteed 3 more years of work without a single penny in concessions on pensions. Anyone who says differently is a liar.  (Jun 3, 2013 | post #5450)

I read this and the amazing thing to me is that everyone is so conspiracy minded and cynical. General Electric made an offer to the Ohio Lamp workers that would have provided them with MORE than competitive wages, a chance to expand well beyond the number of workers employed there now and the opportunity to be a core lighting site for years to come. The older workers there threw the younger workers under the bus. They sold them out. They betrayed them. Those same older workers BEGGED the younger workers to vote in a 2nd tier a decade earlier because at that time they had not yet reached retirement age. Ohio Lamp should be a cautionary tale for both the company and the union for years to come. The sad part is that at Ohio Lamp it was the younger workers who were highly skilled and the older workers who had machinists, B\G and electricians fixing their machines for them and coasting off the hard work of others. Now that they were carried to retirement age they are throwing everyone overboard who got them there. And now they'll go spend Sunday mornings singing about what it's like up there and pretending they didn't just betray their entire community.  (Jun 3, 2013 | post #5447)
