New law makes pools safer for kids

I AGREE why is it that parents seem to think it's someone else's job to watch there kids and if something happens it's someone else's fault that it happened. My daughter is NEVER allowed in a pool if I'm not there. If i leave to go inside she is to get out. The only acceptation is if i run in and there is a parent who is still setting there i will ask if they can keep an eye on her. But REALLY when it comes down to it's my job. This doesn't stop until i know she's old enough to know the risks and UNDERSTANDS Them. Which prob. won't be until she's at LEAST 10yrs old. I watch my children at what ever they do. It doesn't stop until she's grown up and moved out. I had her no one else and it's not one else's job to watch her take care of her. Even with these new safety features I will still do MY JOB.  (Jun 3, 2009 | post #33)

I didn't make it race thing. I just answered someone. Pool girl... I didn't think of that.. I guess so. I think the pool guard is a good idea but it's not going to solve everyones trouble. Pools are dangerous and nothing is going to get past that. I think it's a bad idea to take away everything that is dangerous. When will the cars be gone? Gosh they are REALLY Dangerous. Than when people don't use them correctly it only gets worse. Good luck to that.  (Jun 2, 2009 | post #31)

New law makes pools safer for kids

Ok now first off i would like to agree with HG but i can't. I used to live in Chesapeake and we went to down town Norfolk to go to the pool.... Why because no one was in it down there. It was empty. Most blacks don't have time to spend quality time with family they are too busy spending time with the crack dealers or drinking. They would rather teach their children these types of things. I'm not racist i just say what i see. I have plenty of friends of all races.  (Jun 2, 2009 | post #23)

My questions is does this effect the Middle Peninsula? They don't list it but it is the Peninsula even though it's not "The Peninsula"  (Jun 2, 2009 | post #21)

Ohio man arrested for obstruction for mowing unkempt gras...

This is stupid i can KIND of understand going and slapping him on the wrist for cutting up the trash but that's not the case here. They didn't do their job and cut the grass if it got so tall someone came and did it it for them. What they should have done is thanked him and sent someone in to pick up the little bit of trash. It costed them less to pick up the bits of trash after him than to cut the grass that apparently he didn't want pay for. But NO they wanted to make money on the man they wanted to sue him and get not only the cut for free but get money from him as well. That's not right....  (Jun 2, 2009 | post #1)

Woman accused of killing peacock with bat pleads not guil...

I'm not sure how you can plea not guilty to something that you did. I think if there are people that saw you do it than you did it and how can you say "I Plea Not guilty to charges of animal cruelty" Not guilty means you are not guilty of it. Guilty means you didn't do it. BUT SHE DID! It was seen. That's not in question. What is in Question is weather meant to or not. And Well she Said right in the state meant she beat him up because he wouldn't be quiet So she did mean to. Sometimes i wonder. I can understand being able to Plea not guilty if no one saw you do it and that's still in the air but in this case that's not what happened.  (Jun 2, 2009 | post #1)

Middle school day may extend for Hampton students

I know it's kind of funny huh? When someone doesn't like what you say they say "You know you have to be stupid you can't spell "a word"" It's kind of funny. I understand people being mad because the middle school is later in the morning but i see nothing wrong with the younger kids going to school earlier. What the parents will have to do is figure something out. I would like to say they have a point but my mother didn't have to watch us every min. I can't say we were prefect kids but she watched us when we didn't know she was watching us. She had people around watching us. If we did something SHE KNEW IT. lol If parents are doing what they should be doing they should be worried. My mom was a single mom, she worked 3 jobs she was never home. I can't say none of us kids did any drugs or didn't get into trouble but we made it through growing up. Not because WE were perfect but because she did her job. She made it happen no matter what or where she was. She'd have people watching us from beyond and she would follow us if she suspected us.. It was funny and great at the same time. NOTHING stood in the way of her parenting us. She took what was given to her with out complaining and did her job regardless. Even if it meant having less money to do it.  (Jun 1, 2009 | post #37)

Police say 6-year-old Nebraska boy grabs wheel of pickup ...

This little boy should get something too for doing what he thought was right and quick. Most children would know their parent wasn't driving or couldn't be driving but most wouldn't understand they could do better and take over. This should be rewarded.  (May 22, 2009 | post #1)

Babysitter allegedly leaves baby alone inside car to play...

Great babysitter and they wonder why i watch kids and won't let my alone with childcare these days. No one does the job they are supposed to do with others kids anymore. They are just a paycheck and nothing else.  (May 22, 2009 | post #1)

Middle school day may extend for Hampton students

yes well at certain times of the year being at the bus stop at 7:30 is in the dark and certain times it's not. I would believe if the parents are concerned about that they should go to the bus stop with the kids. I would. I'm sorry i won't put my child in a compromised situation for no one and I would think other parents would do the same. As said earlier It's the parents job to protect the children not the school before they get there. Look at it this way... The earlier the kids get there and earlier they get home to spend GOOD time with the parents. My daughter goes to bed at 7:30pm and wakes up on her own at 6:30am every morning.  (May 22, 2009 | post #31)

Why should they care, it's not their kids and you should have thought about that before you had kids. I thought it completely through before i had kids. If i couldn't afford GOOD care i wasn't going to work. Here i am at home making good on that. Why doesn't every one **** at the schools in stead of do what they need to take care of their kids. The older kids also shouldn't be made to come home and take care of the family because the parents don't want to arrange something else. My mother would have never had us stay home with my siblings. She did. Also 7:30 isn't too early and if it is for your child than they are going to bed too late. My daughter goes to bed at 7:30pm and gets up on her own with no prob. she's at the bus stop each morning with no trouble. It's not the kids it's trouble for it's the parents they don't want to drag their lazy butts out the bed to get them on the bus. Which they should be doing and prob. aren't now anyway.  (May 21, 2009 | post #19)
