I think i know why whites hates black

You've said it best because you all THINK that you are superior. No one hates our culture, in fact most pple love it. If it wasn't for our culture entertainment would be bland and stiff, like White people. Those same crimes you see us commit, your fellow ilk are committing the same crime. it's just one is getting the harsher sentence and the other a slap on the wrist. You all can't be superior anyway, everything you've turned "American " has been BORROWED from other cultures, you're too bland and stiff to come up with anything original, you've to borrow to create this delusional "American " culture.  (Aug 16, 2007 | post #314)

Has Slavery Affected Your Life?

No one has said that carrying a "master's " last name has had an effect. I SAID OPPRESSION AND MOCKERY. Many people are not aware that they are AFFECTED. We have the common problems within our community, such as preferring light over dark, the good hair vs. the bad hair phenomenon, spanking, and yes I said spanking, the idea that adapting and accepting white values is somehow better than our own. All of these issues and there are many more, filter into our lives either obliquely or directly, mostly with many incognizant, through our families. It then becomes a cycle. THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE SO MANY OF US THAT ARE STUCK in the type of mindset you loathe. You take your beautiful son there and you tell him how worhtelss he is all his life, how inept he is. Make fun of his color, his culture, demean and rape his mother, beat him, tell him he is so worthless that he can't even use the same restroom as you. Tell me that won't have an effect on his self-image. Tell me if he doesn't face his self-image and filters that crap down to his children for years to come, tell me that won't have an effect on his children and his children's children. On some level if we are not exposed to the harm that slavery and jim crow has proivided we will NEVER overcome! The ones who have, in all aspects (psychological, emotional, and monetarily) have realized these effects, have challenged them and have conquered them. When a child feels worthless and has NO support, they will turn to what they perceive to be SUPPORT and LOVE. That's my 2 cents. If you really feel it hasn't affected many of our pple fine, one love brotha!  (Jul 23, 2007 | post #420)

It isn't about being attracted to light skin or dark skin people, well, perhaps on some level it is as well, but really it's about the perception that one is better than the other. And in your case it seems to be dark skin brothas, which to me is just as bad because you are still perpetuating one over the other and it shouldn't be that way. Yes everyone has their own defintion of beauty but it can be one that is obscured and restrictive. If you don't date light skin brothas, how will you know if you will be attracted to them? I'm speaking beyond superficiality. Superficial relationships have no susetenance and they don't last. The bonds are tenuous at best; to cultivate a more secure bond between two people you have to look past the color of a brotha. In fact preferring one color of over the other is being colorstruck! In both attempts it's compensation. A compensation of inferiority. One who exclusively dates light skin brothas or sistas ( doesn't matter what YOUR complexion is)is trying to erase how they feel about themselves, they feel that being with someone light is the closest to being with someone who is White. A person who exclusively dates dark skin brothas is also trying to compensate for how it is they feel about themselves. This person feels that if they date a dark skin brotha they'd feel more Black or be considered more Black, regardless of YOUR complexion. You have dark skin women who only date dark skin brothas as you have light skin sistas who date only dark skin brothas. My point is is that beauty is found within, not because of a complexion. If you TRULY value BEAUTY, you'll find that beauty comes in all forms, dark, light, yellow, white and red.  (Jul 22, 2007 | post #417)

Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome

It's called personal experience. Everything cannot be backed up by statistics. Like I've said a friend of mine who is White has told me that the schools her brothers and sisters had not learned about slavery. that they only teach about the holocaust. Now about MLK, where I work I was speaking with a young guy that I've been thinking about becoming a mentor to; I asked him a few questions just to see where he is, I asked him about MLK; do you know what his response was? Who is MLK? I specifically mentioned Martin Luther King.  (Jul 21, 2007 | post #73)

I actually agree with most of what you have said. I did mention that there are Blacks who do use slavery as a crutch; I am not denying that. Just remember though, every child needs SUPPORT, and when that support system no longer suffices their needs, these children will turn elsewhere where they feel they are getting these needs met. But see that "gimme gimme" attitude to speak of was deliberately put in place by the government (the democrats to be exact, which is why I am no longer a democrat) to retain Black people in poor conditions and to keep them dependent upon the system. I actually do not believe in the welfare system. There are other ways you can actually help that will actually produce productive consequences. But that isn't what this country wants for Black Americans, never HAS. The drugs that are in our community? Flooded by the government. Why? During segregation we were taking off! We had are own buisnesses, movie theaters etc... So, I'm not disputing the fact that there are some Blacks who use slavery as an excuse, but slavery had an effect, but many don't realize that it has! They are incognizant! I'll give you an example. I was at work one day, I'm a part-time cashier. Two ladies came to my register, both Black, one said, she was light skinned, she said about me that I was pretty for MY COMPLEXION , I'm dark skinned, the other lady, same complexion as me stated yes. Both saud it like it was second nature! My point is those ladies didn't even realize what they were perpetuating and I gurantee you that has filtered into their homes.  (Jul 21, 2007 | post #408)

Yes I do agree that SOME Blacks use it as an excuse. But you can't rule out the horrid condoitions of the educational system either. You have teachers who constantly tell these children that they will be nothing. They receive crappy books, books from the 70's and inadequate preparation. What will that do to your self-esteem? You have internal and external factors that are attributable, don't rule these out.  (Jul 20, 2007 | post #404)

She also had a father that believed in her anf loved her. Many of who are missing within these children's lives. Later Oprah was very promiscuous and became preganant. Her fahter is the one who helped her realize her potential. You need that support, if not you WILL fall by the wayside.  (Jul 20, 2007 | post #403)

SWEETHEART DID YOU READ MY OTHER POST I DIRECTED TOWARDS YOU? Honey not only will I have 3 BA's when I graduate, I'm headed to GRAD school for a MA and a PHD,so I haven't wallowed in the past. My point is that MANY of these same pple you berate are not AWARE of the effects of slavery. Hello? Neither are you. You can be successful and aware of the effects of slavery and Jim Crow. If you don't think that 400 years of oppression and decades of mockery on a whole affected the lives of Blacks, collectively, you are surely mistaken. You can be the most successful person and yet be the very one who is the most damaged. You can be the poorest and be the one who is the least damaged. Success doesn't chnage your emotional and psychological state, only becoming of aware of it and challenging it will.  (Jul 20, 2007 | post #402)

apparently you don't know what uncle tom means. It doesn't mean because you befriend someone WHITE. There are other things involved that you do not see, that Blacks can detect.  (Jul 20, 2007 | post #398)

BTW slavery began before the 1700's honey! Oh and don't forget Jim Crow! It isn't about being affected on an individual basis, it's collectivley. Blacks have been COLLECTIVELY harmed by the effects of slavery and Jim Crow. Its effects have been obliquely transgenerational, incognizantly you are one of its many consequences. Someone needs to watch roots!  (Jul 20, 2007 | post #397)
