Bankruptcy Shuts Down Bennigan's

Wait, aren't Bush and McCain both republicans? So, if this view on our country's rule isn't working, why not try another a different perspective? If Obama doesn't work out you can always count on an assassination. I hate to say it, but if Obama does become president, I wouldn't be surprised if someone shot him. I don't think it is a happy thing, in fact I think it is horrible, but it is a real risk from my observation. If McCain wins, I really don't know what to expect, but my hopes aren't high on him making things much better. I kind of feel like we are in trouble no matter what. A lot of businesses are going down right now, and we really do need to have some solutions to these problems, but I don't think either candidate has all the qualities we need in a leader. So, it is picking the one who will do the least amount of damage....  (Jul 29, 2008 | post #28)

The Bolingbrook police is a gang.

I guess technically the Bolingbrook Police Force could be considered a gang. What is a gang, a close knit group of people, right? The word, "gang," has negative stigma, so I would prefer the word, "force," so as to remove any tarnish that could be applied to police but... It's not that people are herd animals that is the problem. It is when some groups get together they turn to illegal activities and activities that lead to the troubles of others that is the problem, right? Stop me if I am wrong, I have been up since 5am and I have already worked a full shift, so I might be talking crazy. It's not that people should not socialize it is that they should not sell drugs, pimp out others, disrupt traffic, destroy property, etc...?  (Jul 6, 2008 | post #46)

Spanish in our schools...Our taxes pay for it

Is that the way you speak to a lady? *Blush* How dare you show such disrespect? I may be young, but I'm quite proper and well versed in proper etiquette. A man as well traveled as you should know better. I expected more of you than shameful lust. But, to not be rude, I will answer your question: I am not a dominatrix nor am I member of any scene where promiscuous sex is applauded. I find the act of love is truly joyless without the emotion. Sex without caution is usually rewarded with something equally or more distasteful.  (Apr 5, 2008 | post #259)

Residents Protest Smoking Ban

If you think cigarettes are bad you should look into what high fructose corn syrup does to your organs and how it is in damn near everything. If we allow the government to outlaw things like cigarettes because they are deadly, how long until alcohol (and others) follow? Look at how many people are popping pills, how long until it pops them into liver failure? Maybe we should outlaw that too. It is a slippery slope is all I am saying, and how much do you want another to make your calls for you?  (Apr 2, 2008 | post #5)

We Are #1 In The State! (For Foreclosures)

"County foreclosure rate is No. 1 in state March 14, 2008 By CINDY WOJDYLA CAIN Staff Writer February's dip in the Will County foreclosure rate appears to have been a statistical blip after all. Will County's rates are back up and the county is No. 1 in the state again for foreclosure filings according to Irvine-Calif.- based RealtyTrac's latest report. Foreclosure filings in Will County rose 105 percent from January to February and 82 percent when compared to February 2007. There was one foreclosure filing for every 309 households in the county. Kane County was second in the state with one filing for every 321 homes. Kane's foreclosure filing rate was up 42 percent from January and 58 percent from a year earlier. In contrast, Grundy County's February rate fell 90 percent from January and 82 percent from a year earlier. There was one foreclosure filing for 4,342 homes in Grundy, making it 33rd in the state. Nationwide, foreclosure filings dropped 4 percent from January. But they are up 60 percent when compared to February 2007. One in every 557 U.S. households received a foreclosure filing during the month, according to RealtyTrac. The company tracks default notices, auction sales notices and bank repossessions for its monthly reports. Because foreclosure rates are 60 percent higher than a year ago, RealtyTrac CEO James Saccacio said "... we still have not reached the peak of foreclosure activity in this cycle." Nevada remained first in foreclosures in the country, with one in every 165 housesholds, more than three times the national average. California, Florida, Arizona and Colorado, also remained on top of the list." -Bolingbrook Sun I know the housing market is in a huge hole, but I didn't realize it was hitting our county so hard. I'm a fairly new homeowner (had my townhouse for 3 years) and while I am educated on mortgages, I don't know why there are so many foreclosures- can anyone help me understand? Is there anything that can be done to help pull ourselves out of this? I'm not having an issue making my mortgage payments, but it fills me with sadness to know others are struggling.  (Apr 2, 2008 | post #1)

Human Remains Found

Is your poster name a Linux reference? (off topic but I'm curious) Yeah, it is shocking that with two women missing, remains can be found, and have it not bring one of their mysteries to a close. Hopefully it will conclude someone's story. I can't imagine dying and having there be no finality or conclusion to my life story.  (Apr 2, 2008 | post #3)

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN?

I spend a lot of time playing cards with my friends, mainly Spades and Euchre. It's a little harder now because some establishments won't let us sit there all night and play cards, even though we continually buy food and drinks and tip the waitresses for their time not the cost of our bill. It's also lost some luster since we can't smoke inside anymore. Sometimes we have gatherings at one of our homes, but it's so much more fun when you are out in public, running into old friends and meeting new people. We have some good debates (political and otherwise) over those card games, it is what I look forward to when I don't have to work the next day.  (Apr 2, 2008 | post #3)

Residents Protest Smoking Ban

"Residents protest smoking ban March 24, 2008 By STEWART WARREN Staff Writer JOLIET — The smoking ban isn’t just about cigarettes. It’s a threat to personal liberty, fumed Larry Peet of Joliet Township. “If you take away the right to smoke, who’s to say what other rights will be challenged?” he asked Monday while standing outside the Will County Courthouse. “This county is supposed to be about freedom.” So he grabbed his copy of “The Federalist Papers” and joined a group of about 30 others to protest. Earlier this month, Joliet police walked into two local bars, Paulie’s Pub, 2104 W. Jefferson St., and Woody’s, 1008 E. Washington St., and ticketed people for lighting up. They were violating the Smoke Free Illinois Act, a law that went into effect Jan. 1 and forbids smoking in public places, and told to appear Monday morning in Will County Judge Marzell Richardson’s courtroom. “Private property rights are gone,” said Michelle Fese of Channahon, a longtime local bartender who organized the demonstration. Will County’s bar owners are worried, she said. If they allow patrons to smoke, they could be fined. But business isn’t exactly booming without the ashtrays. As they stood outside waving signs and American flags, four people who had been ticketed sat together in Richardson’s courtroom. Paul Leoford, 63, of 802 Cottage St., Shorewood; Bruce Hockin, 63, of 1317 Frederick St., Joliet; and Jack Jackson, 65, of 900 Windsor Drive, Shorewood, had been at Paulie’s Pub. Donald Poplawski, 56, of 1115 N. Center St., Joliet, was at Woody’s. While waiting for the judge to call their names, they seemed a little nervous and whispered to each other about what to do. In the end, all of them except for Leoford decided to hire Dan O’Day, a Peoria lawyer. He recently represented bartender Karla Carrington after she was ticketed in Bureau County for allowing a patron to smoke. While challenging the smoking ban, O’Day cites a 1914 Illinois Supreme Court ruling on a smoking ban in Zion, Ill. “The court said it was unconstitutional,” O’Day said Monday. “That case has been cited favorably ever since then, even in 1978.” After calling the Hockin, Jackson and Poplawski cases, the judge spoke to O’Day about a problem: The cases had been filed as misdemeanors, not petty offenses, the judge said. In the Smoke Free Illinois Act, the offense is not classified as any particular type of crime. “This is a new situation for the court system,” Richardson said, telling most of them to come back at 11 a.m. May 12. Leoford will return at 9 a.m. April 28. Charles B. Pelkie, a spokesman for the state’s attorney’s office, said later that the nature of the charges will be addressed before the defendants return to court. “These citations carry a $100 to $250 fine if found guilty and are akin to speeding tickets. They are petty offenses that do no involve jail time,” Pelkie said. He added that the bar owners have not been cited, but the police reports are under review by the state’s attorney’s office. Outside the courtroom, O’Day explained everything to his clients, and they seemed reassured. None of them wanted a misdemeanor conviction on their record. Jackson was the first one to leave the building. “I’m going to light a cigarette out there,” he said, looking toward the door." -Bolingbrook Sun If this is an issue that really concerns you, maybe if people of many communities can organize and ban together against the ban on smoking, they may accomplish something. What do you think?  (Apr 2, 2008 | post #1)

Human Remains Found

"Human bones found in forest preserve April 2, 2008 LEMONT TOWNSHIP -- A young man walking in a south suburban forest preserve Wednesday afternoon discovered what are believed to be human bones. At approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Cook County Forest Preserve Police Department was notified that the young man had been walking in Black Partridge Woods, about one-eighth of a mile off Bluff Road in Lemont Township and found a collection of what are believed to be human bones, some partially covered by dirt, others on the surface, according to a release from Forest Preserve spokesman Steve Mayberry. The young man notified his parents, who, in turn, called 911. Police personnel responded to the scene and were directed to the remains, which included about one dozen bones from the feet and other, larger bones, the release said. Police could not immediately identify what body parts the larger bones came from. Forest Preserve Police took their bloodhound to the scene, but the dog was unable to find any further remains. Police have also walked around the area, conducting a visual search, and also found no more bones. While the bones are believed to be human, according to forest preserve police, there is not a complete skeleton and the bones are believed to have been there for well over a year. Mayberry stressed that police do not believe -- "and have no reason to believe" - that these remains are related to any current, high-profile missing persons case, including Lisa Stebic or Stacy Peterson. Stebic has been missing from her Plainfield home since May 1 and Peterson, of Bolingbrook, disappeared Oct. 28. The Cook County Forest Preserve Police is working with the Cook County Sheriff¹s Police Investigations Section on the investigation " -Bolingbrook Sun I know the Stebic and Peterson ladies are missing, but how many missing people are in our area that maybe didn't get the publicity that these two missing ladies got? Any clues in your memory as to who these bones once were?  (Apr 2, 2008 | post #1)

Spanish in our schools...Our taxes pay for it

Yeah, well, I thought when I became a psychologist it would help to be able to counsel people in other languages, but the I decided I didn't want to be a psychologist. I am now working to become a vet tech, as I find working with animals much easier than people, heh. Isn't that funny? In my house, my fiance cleans the bathrooms and I clean the litter boxes and do poop patrol. I find if we do equal amounts of work, we both feel we contribute mutually and we don't have to fiss and fuss over control. Though, the house is in my name, only because I bought it before I met him- bought the house at 20 years old and I am now 23. It is now our house, and we pay equal parts of the mortgage and split the bills and everything. If we could all just share responsibility in everything, I think the world would be much simpler. If there is one thing I appreciate in my better half, it is his willingness to have everything be each by their needs from each by their means. We both love the Japanese culture, but having the women at home and the man being the bread winner is just so out of date for a relationship to work in these times. I like that he will do the dishes after I come off a ten hour shift and he loves that I will do laundry on my days off or my light work days. We split up the chores and that way no one gets left to feeling they do it all or don't contribute to keeping our lives in functional order.  (Apr 1, 2008 | post #237)

Spanish in our schools...Our taxes pay for it

I SPEAK 4 languages, I cannot write fluently in 4 languages. I taught myself, so the writing is harder to practice and get down concretely. I speak English, French, Spanish, and American Sign Language. I also know a little Latin and Japanese, but I'm not near fluent in those yet, still studying. I learned these for fun, because I'm a geek. I'm an intelligent girl, but not because I speak 4 languages or because I enjoy studying language. I'm an intelligent girl because I know that no one is better or worse than me, we are all equal regardless of occupational status, social status, monetary status, race, gender, religion, neighborhood, or any other box you want to put another individual in, including what language(s) one may speak.  (Apr 1, 2008 | post #228)

I am offended by your dog reference. I'd rather hang out with a renegade dog than a fool of a human any day. At least the dogs are always dogs, some people look like people and they are actually thieving rats! Dogs have their pack, they look out for others in their pack, even the alpha will smile at the beta now an again.  (Apr 1, 2008 | post #57)

Spanish in our schools...Our taxes pay for it

So now everyone must pay because stereotypes are formed by real situations, or a real situation? Women are money hungry wenches, Hispanics only have one true calling and it is lawn care, Jews are penny pinchers, all cops eat donuts.... Come on. Pull your head from your rear. Next you will tell me it is un-American for a man to not beat his wife and that any citizen who doesn't enjoy beer is a traitor to this country. Seriously now, just because one cat has three legs does not make the feline a three- legged creature. Just because one dog has no tail does not mean that all dogs do not have a tail. Just because a handful of women are brainless consumer machines or are more turned on by a full bank account does not describe the average women. If it did, no one would watch it on TV because it wouldn't be fascinating that a human could actually be in such a state.  (Mar 25, 2008 | post #195)

Spanish in our schools...Our taxes pay for it

If we only traded with countries that had our health care system, we wouldn't have any industrialized countries to trade with. Most of the Western World has moved into socialized health care. I guess if you somehow warp the standard that idea might work... but it would defeat the action all together.  (Mar 21, 2008 | post #179)
