How Long Were You on Antibiotics

Ask your docotor if you are a canidate for Clindamycin http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/Clindam ycin I used it during this flareup casue the flagyl and Cipro are so hard on my system. I took it for 14 days 4 a day . I felt tired but no where near the same side affects as the alternatives. Ask your doctor it may be a alternative for you . It worked the same .I felt much better when i was done with them about a day after i took my last one i went back to normal and scheduled my surgery. Leviquin is also a alterantive , but very easy to become resistant to and has some wicked side affects.  (May 10, 2010 | post #3)

Chronic Constipation and diverticulitis

Ask for some bentyl , it's a muscle relaxant for your colon and lower intestine area. It's commanly prescribed for IBS but it works mircles when you are recovering from a flareup. I tkaes about 4 pills before you will notice anything but after that u should relax down there normally.  (May 10, 2010 | post #3)

I don't know much, need help!

Clonazepam for anxiety http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/Clonaze pam I also take bentyl- http://ibdcrohns.a bout.com/od/bentyl /Bentyl_dicyclomin e.htm , its way better than a laxitive it basically is a muscle relaxent for that part of your body . The 2 work togther to relax you and help your colon heal prior to surgery. Unfortunaly i cant take anymore analgesics like aleve 4 days till surgery so they got me on davorcet and they make you doped out , i hate this feeling i would almost choose pain over being on narcs sometimes  (May 10, 2010 | post #14)

Did anyone get a second option prior to surgery?

Robin ask for cloneazaphan(sp), it lasts longer than valium so you wont have to take as many pills. He should be happy to prescribe you a weeks supply but they wont give much more than that.  (May 7, 2010 | post #8)

See a colo rectal surgeon , GI doctor will just hand you over to one eventually might as well save the co pays and go straight to the source. Plus surgeons are smarter than doctors , trust me on this one.  (May 7, 2010 | post #10)

I am scheduled for lapro , made surgeon promise to do everything possible to keep it that way, he said he would do everyhting he could to stick to the plan. Also try aleve for a pain killer one every 8 hours vs 3 ibuprohin 4 times a day is much easier on your stomach and it seems to work better. I was lucky i had some anti anxiety medicne from last flareup, been poping one every night , only thing that makes me not think about next week. I will have my laptop with me durng my time in the hospital i will most definatly try to post if i can  (May 7, 2010 | post #9)

Diverticulitis

Did anyone get a second option prior to surgery?

Igot 3 different opinions, saw 3 colorectal surgeons before i found one i trusted. Now they all said the same thing , to get it removed. But the other 2 didnt give the warm fuzzy feeling they where actually gonna only do lapro surgery and not split me open. Keep looking and find someone that will give you reassurnaces, a good CT scan is the most important thing to start with. Ask you doctor to consult a radiologist 2 times not once before surgery they can tell the size and amount they are going to take before hand mostly from the CT so no unessacary cuts. A good plan always turns out best. What scared me into getting mine done is when i found out how many people die each year from diverticulits induced complications , hell a car wreck at 30 mph is enough to rupture those pouches. So think of it like you have a ticking time bomb in your stomach and the only way to defuse it is surgery! Best of luck on your surgery and i will post through out my process , so stay tuned!  (May 6, 2010 | post #5)

Diverticulitis

I don't know much, need help!

Hey Robin and Kristy, Have my surgery planned for the 13th next week. I am feeling very upbeat after my last cat scan .The the doctor reaasured me that 98 percent of elective surgery's when done with a proper clean out and round of pre anti biotics will not invlove a stome or bag and recover time is minimal. 4 days in hospital 1 week off work. I am scared as hell dont get me wrong but there are so many people that tell me my quality of life will be so much better. Most people dont realize a good portion of your serotonin's are secreted from the lower intestine and absorbed through you colon wall back into the blood stream. Serotinins affect your mood and make you happy or sad. I havent been a happy person in over 5 years, i owe it to myself to be happy right? So Surgery it will be ,that or the alternative , which is living in pain and acting like someone i'm not.  (May 6, 2010 | post #4)
