Just Good News,Please

Hi all! Well I was just mypsaced by Laura and asked to come in here with an update. I am so sorry I havent been on in FOREVER! We have a new building and my boss is within eyeshot of my computer *sigh* so I can only get on when he is out.. and I am done with my work for the moment, of course! *snicker* So yeah, Josh & Heather are coming home! As you saw, Channel 8 & WXMI were the first to report. I tell you what, I contacted WZZM first via email to let them know about Josh coming home and all I got was an email reply saying, literally 'please keep us posted'. So I shrugged my shoulders and went to Wood TV8, who jumped on the story, as did WXMI. So I finally CALLED WZZM and they got back with me today. We are doing an interview with them tomorrow- so I guess the story turned out to be important to them after all! :) We havent ironed out all the details yet- everything is set excpet for the time of plane arrival. Josh (and heather) is going to be transported to he and Heather's apartment by the patriot guard, police cars, and firetrucks. We are asking the public to show up and show their support by lining the entrance and streets around the Gerald R Ford airport. There will be a press release by the marines once final details are hammered down, so keep your eyes peeled. We just want him to know that he is supported around here- that people care and that people are thankful for the huge sacrifice he has made. And if you see he and Heather out and about, just say hi to him- treat him like he should be treated- normal. That is the message we want to get out to everyone. We have a true American hero who is coming home!!! :)  (Mar 21, 2008 | post #3219)

Losing a dad is so hard, especailly for a son to lose his father at a young age. We lost my father in law 2 years ago- my husband was 28 and to this day he has such a hard time with it. He too never talks about that day (his father had been battling cancer- it had gotten really bad and we went up to Greenville to visit him- left work early to do so- got there right after he passed awayin his bed- mother in law came running out of the house as we pulled in the driveway and just collapsed in my husbands arms. It was horrible.) I am so happy to hear your son is doing ok with it. It really is a hard thing to deal with..  (Nov 30, 2007 | post #2718)

Update: Man charged in daycare CSC investigation

If any of my relatives, whom I am quite close with, or any of my friends were not only accused, but CHARGED, of something like this... you bet I would have doubts about them. And as I have said until I am seemingly blue in the face, unless you are with that person EVERY minute of EVERY day, you cannot say for 100% positive that you KNOW they didnt do it. 'Good' people can, and many times do, have dark, evil sides. I don't hold anything past anyone these days. So that is what I would do in that situation. I would say 'well, they SEEM like a nice person. They dont SEEM to want to hurt a fly. They SEEM to love kids... but I cannot know for sure because I am not with them 100% of the time to know what they do when no one is looking....  (Nov 30, 2007 | post #32)

Im glad for her too, really I am. But this just brings a whole new quandry to me in that I am all for helping someone who cannot help themselves (ie- diasibility checks for the disabled). But it bothers me that someone can willfully make themselves so obese that they can get out of working and sit home, making themselves even more obese while I get up every morning extra early to workout on a treadmill, get my child out of bed to bring her to daycare, then go to work, watching what I put in my mouth in the meantime so I dont end up like that. And it kills me to know that what I work for has approx 30% taken out of it and some of that money goes to people who, all on their own, make themselves this way. This is why I AM happy for her, she found a way to stop destroying herself and to become an active, responsible member of society. But as you can see my my handy little quote under my name "personal responsibility is key"... we are all responsible for what we do to ourselves, and I feel it is not right for my hard earned money to support people who do what she did to herself. Perhaps if they had zero free money (ie-disability checks, welfare, foodstamps etc) coming in, perhaps they wouldnt have the opportunity to sit home every day & gorge themselves into an even worse predicament. Perhaps if they had to actually go out and work, they would have that constant opportunity (their kitchen) to eat eat eat taken away, allowing them to stop packing the weight on, and also making them more physcially active than just sitting on the couch. sigh... it just bugs me to know that there are seriously disable peopel out there who would do ANYTHING to have a 'normal' body, and who are deserving of government assistance. And then there are people out there who destroy their bodies, who are perfectly able and ahve every opportunity to make a btter life for themself, but they choose not to, for whatever reason. And then we taxpayers have to pay for it.  (Nov 30, 2007 | post #73)

Posted by Mario on the other thread, (post #21) "Once she lost all that weight she got out there and STARTED her cleaning business." And I also remember seeing the brodcast, where she said she finally left the house after losing 400 lbs. So my question is, I see her friend say she started cleaning... once she lost 400 lbs... but how did she support herself while she was a) homebound due to her weight and b) how did she support herself while losing the first 400 lbs while sitting on the computer 12-14 hours a day? Are her friends trying to say that she worked as a cleaning lady while typing away to the point she neglected to eat. Also- how could she make a living cleaning while being self proclaimed homebound due to her weight? I am really happy for her in that she took control of her life and did this all on her own. I think that is fantastic. But what bothers me is knowing that she most likely spent the days overeating, and then spent the days typing away, on essentially my dime. To her friends, can you honestly say, in full truthfulness, that she 100% supported herself in a cleaning business when she herself said she did not go out of the house until she had already lost 400 lbs? Now dont forget.... Mario said she started the cleaning business AFTER she lost the weight. So again, what did she do to support herself in the meantime?  (Nov 30, 2007 | post #71)

A Wiggling Good Time

What does this have to do with a thread about chilrens entertainment? Anyway...... almost 2 years ago my sister bought my little one tickets to go see Dora live. And front row! Heather, myself, my duaghter and my neice, Madelynn, went to see it. We had sooo much fun! The place was packed, and the enrgy level was just awesome. What a blast! Kids had the time of their lives.....  (Nov 29, 2007 | post #5)

I am kind of excited about the snow we are supposed to get this weekend! After last year's brown Christmas (remember, we didnt get snow until mid january?) I cant wait to have the lights from my Christmas decorations bouncing off the white stuff. And hey, if its going to be cold, like, bitterly cold, it might as well be pretty out! :)  (Nov 29, 2007 | post #2631)

Should Spanking Your Child Be Illegal?

Bringing my duaghter to the doctor is emotionally and physically damaging to her. So I suppose I should be outlawed for doing so. She also really hates wearing a life jacket.. theres that darn emotional damage again. Time outs are emotionally damaging to her too... shoot, now I have to throw that out the window. I make her eat vegetables she doesnt like... aw shucks! Emotional & physically damaging. Wow, now that I have really thought about it, as a parent, it seems like I cant do anything except give her everything she wants and let her know that no matter what she ever does, that it is ok... because I wouldnt want to emotionally or physically damage her.  (Nov 29, 2007 | post #47)

Hahaha! I love it... Almost everyone I work with is dutch, a couple whos grandparents are straight off the boat. My boss (one of the owners) and I are pretty much the only ones who are not. We always joke/say the line from Austin Powers: "If there are two things I hate in this world, it is people intolerant of other culters and the d*mn dirty dutch" :) !  (Nov 28, 2007 | post #1768)
