Moving to Poolesville

I think you'll be able to find an environmentally safe place to live in Maryland. Of course, there are no guarantees in life. I would be most concerned about living on or near an old dumpsite. Let me know where you're planning to move, and I'll let you know about locations of dumpsites we have in file or any areas I suspect could be old dumpsites.  (Nov 27, 2012 | post #58)

Tamaqua, PA

Blood disease: No answer

Nearby landfills are endangering the community in several other ways aside from contamination of the groundwater. Most former dumps contain highly flammable and highly explosive methane gas which can migrate underground at least 1,000 feet from the perimeter of a landfill. Chemical gases within the landfill migrate with the light methane, thus exposing the community to carcinogens in the air and soil.  (Nov 9, 2012 | post #16)

Blood disease: No answer

It's much more plausible that the illnesses were caused by former dumpsites peppered throughout the Hazleton area and not from a waste site 5 miles away.  (Oct 8, 2012 | post #10)

Bucyrus mobile-home fire kills 3 children; teen escapes |...

In order to help protect residents from future fires an investigation of previous land-use of the mobile home park property should be conducted to determine if it's on top of a former dumpsite.  (Oct 8, 2012 | post #14)

Blood disease: No answer

The area surrounding Tamaqua is full of dumpsites and mining wastes. How far from Tamaqua is the waste site up by Macadoo?  (Sep 25, 2012 | post #6)

Tamaqua, PA

Blood disease: No answer

It appears pretty evident that the serious blood diseases were caused by chemicals in old dumpsites and mine tailings that surround Tamaqua and nearby towns. Government agencies aren't doing anything but taking more tests and doing more studies. Is it their way of not having to spend money on cleanup of the toxic waste or relocation of residents?  (Sep 23, 2012 | post #4)

Hello Samantha, Thanks for the information. I was surprised to see a response to my comment after all these years. Do you know anything about the reported cancer cluster at Indian Ridge Middle School?  (Sep 4, 2012 | post #3)

Multiple Sclerosis Cluster in Wellington

I think finding out the locations of all the old dumpsites is key to finding out the cause (or causes) of MS in Wellington.  (Aug 30, 2012 | post #15)

Multiple Sclerosis Cluster in Wellington

As I mentioned in my last post, I think the contamination is caused by chemicals in a former dumpsite.  (Jun 14, 2012 | post #13)

Jess0217....You mentioned that the wells are on public property. Do you know what government agency currently owns the the land where the wells are located? I think Tenant Park may be one of the many parks across the country that were developed on top of former dumpsites containing carcinogenic chemicals. Do you know the previous land-use of the park?  (May 22, 2012 | post #11)

I'd like to help you find the cause of the diseases. In what neighborhood of Caledonia do you live (cross-streets)? Did the EPA dig test wells on a public or private property?  (May 14, 2012 | post #6)

Possible Cancer Cluster in Carlsbad

I think the cancers may have been caused by chemicals from former dumpsites.  (Mar 16, 2012 | post #28)
