And now for your weekly gas price increase...

Yeah I saw the sink **** and do not agree with the oil being the cause, I believe the cause was the water they pumped into the ground to extract more oil, over time the water dissolved the limestone/shale minerals creating the **** . Oil is locked up in shale when the oil is extracted the rock remains. The salt dome is above the deposit of oil, sort of a cap, the salt dome is what they look for its a sign that oil might be underneath. Oil comes from ancient seas and sea life or plankton not vegetable matter like coal. I like to look at oil as fossilized sunlight.  (May 11, 2008 | post #155)

Far be it from me to dispute the "Distribution of Wealth" as a matter of fact I agree. Historically this has been proven. But when this settles down or turns up side down those who think they are wealthy might find themselves on the outside looking in. IMO: I think if the Fed lowers interest rates again we might see the OPEC nations going to the Euro for the benchmark and China dumping USA holdings in favor of more lucrative returns. I am surprised that China hasn't done that already the rate of exchange is working in there favor right now. There are politics at play here and no matter what the outcome I can guarantee you that the people will bear the brunt of it.  (May 11, 2008 | post #41)

Food prices are going to rise no matter what. Everything we do is tied to the cost of energy. Diesel is what $4.20 a gallon now, do you think the farmer will hold the price of corn steady when diesel goes to $5, or higher? He also has a family to support  (May 11, 2008 | post #40)

Well yes about the tariffs but If memory serves at the time the only large multi-national corporations where Nobel (TNT) and Exxon. And Exxon was going through a Congress bust up as they declared them a monopoly. JD what a capitalist, no person or company has even approached the wealth of Exxon to this day. What I am saying is that the old axioms no longer apply, we are now in uncharted territory. Good, bad or indifference the seas ahead will be heavy and the rolls mighty.  (May 11, 2008 | post #35)

Hurley, You must think deeper, The Grapes of Wrath is a great book and deserves to be read numerous times but it doesn't apply to today's fiasco. There is a new twist on a old game and this game is now global, historically this has never happened. The entire world is economically connected and the US dollar is the benchmark and also used for the price of oil world wide. The Chinese have almost 4 trillion in American treasury notes and bonds along with almost 3 trillion in cash. If the Chinese decide to trade in allAmerican dollars and security's Monday morn to re-invest in the Euro, say good night to Irene or goodbye to Hollywood  (May 10, 2008 | post #33)

Senate passes ban on smoking in bars, restaurants

Wow hot topic. Such passion from both sides of the fence. I say. Disobey this law. Maybe smokers and non smokers can take care of the problem by slugging it out.  (May 10, 2008 | post #163)

Barrel of oil at $124.60 today Gallon of Un Leaded gas at $3.15 wholesale price in 5000 gal lots. Congress thinks if they stop putting oil in the SPR it will help lower the price. NOT. They haven't a clue. Price of a barrel last May was $61, this May $125 This is getting to be a great circus.  (May 9, 2008 | post #140)

The collapse of "Bears Stearns" is a good example of how a market and a country's economy collapses. When people make a run on the banks to withdraw all there cash or folks decide to sell all of there stocks and bonds. The gov should have never helped out Bear Stearns they are a brokerage bank not a FDIC bank but the downside to not bailing them out could have been disastrous for retired folks who count on funds from some retirement plan  (May 9, 2008 | post #30)

Excuse me.. The state is complaining about making a profit? Lets keep repeating this over and over in your head till it finally dawns on you... The state making a profit. The state making a profit. The state, a governmental agency, making a profit at the expense of its citizens. When did the state go into business to make a profit?  (May 8, 2008 | post #13)

The bigger question. How much of an increase in taxes will the state require of its citizens so this can be enforced?  (May 8, 2008 | post #56)

Gas Tax Reprieve

IMO. I think they are going to do just the opposite. The federal tax on gas which is at 18.4 cpg will be increased ten fold.  (May 7, 2008 | post #4)
