Questions for former Christians

I've had a patient several times, repeat customer, who comes in after ingesting everything from antifreeze to carburetor fluid, he gets put on an ethanol drip, along with bicarb, and he still to the day, is going strong and continues in the self destructive behavior. It's not a miracle. Medical science has figured out how to bind up those receptor sites to prevent permanent damage.  (Aug 23, 2011 | post #132)

What if there REALLY is a Hell?

I say again, what? I don't follow a single word that you are saying. The last time I saw schizophrenic writings like this it was Blessed Lunatic. I can't figure out if you are making a profound point or just rambling incoherently.  (Aug 23, 2011 | post #3292)

Well, you are in a atheist forum. You have to expect skeptisism and criticism.  (Aug 22, 2011 | post #85)

Questions for former Christians

It's been an interesting journey since becoming openly atheist. Most people at work consider me as their "special/reta rded" friend. They consider me as an outsider. They discount me as a true friend. I have online friends that "love" me. It is really difficult to be truthful. To be truthful means to leave yourself exposed to criticism. It's as if atheists are alien beings on planet Earth.  (Aug 22, 2011 | post #84)

So much for the "loving and accepting" Christians. They all secretly wish that anyone who believes otherwise would just FO and die. They want nothing to do with tolerance.....only their own version of bigotry.  (Aug 22, 2011 | post #79)

I am a female, caucasian atheist. Being an atheist brings about all kids of stereotypes. People think that I am some kind of child hating, murderous woman. They fail to truly get to know me, as a person, or gain insight on what I am really like. People assume a lot about me, without ever seeking to know the REAL me.  (Aug 22, 2011 | post #78)

Questions for former Christians

If you want to know my story, EMS, I grew up in the typical middle class Methodist home. We went to church every sunday. I love going to church because of the music. They didn't sing traditional hymns. They had full orchestra accompaniment....a s a child born for the stage, this was awesome for me. I realized very early, probably around 11, that none of the indoctrination made any sense whatsoever. I tried very hard to please my parents and swallow that godwalloping pill that they were trying to get me to take. I went through confirmation, still struggling to believe this crap, but to no avail. I just faked it. As a teen, I tried again with church camp which totally saturated teens with the "holy spirit" but still.....no connection. I kept thinking that there must be something wrong with me that I couldn't get that "godly, wonderfully warm feeling". As I got older, I felt less pressure to attend church. After reading a few atheist writings, I realized that I was born and would always be an atheist. I realized that there is absolutely nothing wrong with me, I had nothing to apologize for and that I am decent and moral without needing to acknowledge any higher power.  (Aug 22, 2011 | post #63)

So are you looking for justification to disbelieve your theistic upbringing? Are you expecting that the people in this forum will make being "atheist " an ok thing to be? The hardest thing in the world to be is an atheist. To be both gay and black are more readily accepted than atheism. People try to demonize us atheists, that's why we come off to have such hateful attitudes sometimes. I can completely understand why you are doubting what your preacher says. Let me close by saying, it's OK to be an atheist with your head held high.  (Aug 22, 2011 | post #60)

White men hate Blacks due to their sex problem

Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson are both hypocritical bigots. Glen Beck and Sarah Palin are of the same mold. How are you different from them? You preach the same segregation crap, just from the opposite side. I am appalled by what took place in the 60's. I have watched documentaries, and videos of the era and am completely disgusted by the ignorance shown in them. However, you seem to not be able to get past your own anger. You seem to be stuck in time.....unable to forgive. Maybe you should talk to someone about those anger issues.......  (Jul 6, 2011 | post #293)

You pathetic sad sack, I am a liberal, left wing white person, who supports yours and everyone else's rights. However you continue to belittle me and call me names. You have called me slut, hoe and bitch. I don't know about you, but that isn't the way that I address people who support me. Glenn Beck is one of the biggest idiots on the planet and I would never agree with his extremist viewpoint but still you wanna lump me into that category. I voted for this president and I stand by him. But, I will never stand by a racist, arsehole like you. You are so extreme that you seem like a POE. Hopefully you know what that is, but I would seriously doubt that you do.  (Jul 6, 2011 | post #292)

I think Rashy hates everyone of every color. He hates men, women and children. He is so disappointed in himself that he takes it out on the rest of us.  (Jul 6, 2011 | post #291)
