Obscene: The $150 Million Inauguration

Hmm, it is too bad that people with strong language do not log in and post their comments. It will be easy to tell who is right and who is wrong in 6 months, 12 months, 8 years. If Obama is a fraud we will know so in the next 4 years. If that happens I would gladly admit that fact. Put yourself out there. We still will not know who you are, but tracking your past conversations give you more creditability, or less depending on how things turn out. As for going back on campaign issues. I think it is a good idea to change your strategy when you have new information. Going forward with one strategy even when presented with new information seems silly. Lastly, I do not think that all people who voted for Obama are fanatics. There is a broad spectrum of Americans that voted for him. Those that are fanatical may have been pushed in that direction.  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #48)

Interesting. You talk about prayer yet your prayer is not positive. Though Obama is a Christian it appears you do not think he will listen to God. God is powerful and His Will will be done. God can do wonders though even the least of us. I bet God would love a prayer asking for his blessing on this country, it leaders, and all it people. What did Bush create that the Obama supporters can bring down? Also you talk about how safe Bush kept us. We cannot argue that there have not been any attacks on US soil since 9-11. That seems clear. I cannot prove what another President would have done, but I am courious on what Bush did that was better than another President would have done. Your family is safe and we are all thankful for that. Many Americans with family members around the world in various roles cannot say the same thing. I agree that nothing happened in America, but that does not mean Americans were not harmed. I also agree that there is bias in most media. It appears they are in the business of making money not fair reporting. Bias can be easily found for those on both sides. Some of the news channels are there for those of us that think we are above the supermarket tabloids. Just as in life things often fall somewhere in the middle. All I ask now is for you to do what was asked of us. Support your new President in his decisions. Stand behind him even when you think he is wrong. Lets work to make America Stronger.  (Jan 20, 2009 | post #23)

What needs to be done for the Utica area a better place?

My mistake, You will have to forgive me, sometimes these Topix stores are not so much about an issue as bashing the other side and I should not have made that assumption.  (Jan 9, 2009 | post #22)

Holy cow, I got of the topic. Utica already has some great attractions, but this post is about what can be don. People need to care about the city and do something. If government is too big and slow lets show the Government that we can do it on your own. If you have time, volunteer with an organization that does something you believe in. If you have money sponsor child, buy some playground equipment give a kid some work to do around your house for a some money. We can make Utica Great, but it takes more than just government.  (Jan 9, 2009 | post #15)

Welfare Abuse

Some of the early comments were better, so I am going to post on those. I am in favor of public assistance, but not for those that are able bodied. I think most people agree that we are not in favor of welfare abuse. There are a lot of posts that make it appear that some tax payers are ok with the abuse. (not made by you) Interesting. Of course in this job market there are more people searching for jobs than jobs are available. I agree with you about 95%. People like you and I prefer to work. So our pride is worth more than the time off from not working. The only 5% that I might disagree with sometimes you need to treat yourself. If you have a lot bad in your life sometimes a nice steak makes that day better. If that is one of the highlights of their week then that is not a great week. It can be frustrating going to work everyday, but I bet you feel better at the end of the day than they do.  (Jan 9, 2009 | post #48)

There is no GOD

I forgot to put on one specif spot I was pointing to. It is in the last minute. The bulhorn guy "thins he is giving people the good news, but it does not come across that way" right around the 3:30 mark.  (Dec 19, 2008 | post #68)

Now see how can you really say always? Do you know everyone? Though you are probably a fellow brother or sister in Christ comments like take away any legitimacy your other posts might have. check this out http://www.youtube .com/watch?v=rLIke ltz4z4 the bulhorn guy does not represent all Christians.  (Dec 19, 2008 | post #67)

I guess I will just have to respectively disagree with you on that one pooint. I may have just read too much into some of the statements that do not seem to leave room for the atheist that remain firm in their belief until death. This seems like the same kind of generalization as people put on Christians and we get upset with.  (Dec 19, 2008 | post #64)

Clearly there are true atheist people. I am not sure what telling an atheist that he or she is not truly an atheist is supposed to accomplish. Looking back it is clear to see God in my life, but Am I not truly a Christian because I had doubts at times in my life? I guess I am just not getting the point of this statement.  (Dec 19, 2008 | post #59)

There is no GOD

I believe in God and that I have a personal relationship with him. My question is do I love and serve his people enough. It is clear that religion has been used in the past for money, power, death and many other things. That I can admit. I hope you can also admit that some religious people have also done great things for humanity. That only seems fair. There was a topic stating if there was no religion then there would be no Crusades. If there was no religion in the world people looking for money, power, other desirable things would have come up with a way to get it. I encourage you to examine "religious " people. Are they following what their religion teaches? If not then you cannot use their actions to classify other religious people. I will admit that I know little about gardening. Sure I know the basics, water is good, some bugs are good, some bugs are bad. My limited knowledge makes it easy to say that roses grow well in the sunlight, but that leaves out other information though important not widely know nor does it allow me to infer that information is true about other gardening topics. I know that is very abstract, but the Bible is complex. Each book was written for a purpose. Some books were written to societies that were close followers while other books were written to societies that were full of what the Bible thinks of as sin. I would expect the writting to have a different tone and need to address issues in a different way. There are people willing to kill for $50. If you dangle power, money, and other desirable things of course certain people will take advantage. Look at the millions who do not take advantage. Having said all that, unfortunately what one of the other posts said might be true. "For those who believe, no explanation is needed For those who do not believe no explanation will suffice.”  (Dec 18, 2008 | post #45)

Area has at least one good thing going for it

Each area of the USA has something to offer. If someone wants city life, Utica is not the place to be. However, if you like the outdoors this is the place to be. And NYC is just a few hours away. I like this place so I am trying to make it better. I hope you can find an organization to help out with. You, family, friends and strangers including me will appreciate it. As far as the jobs, that is not one of my skills. I have not had the flashbulb go off yet, but if I do, I will keep the jobs here.  (Dec 16, 2008 | post #5)

Good find. I think we have a lot going for Utica. We need to find a way to get jobs here, but life in Utica is not so bad. It took a few years, but the city has grown on me.  (Dec 16, 2008 | post #2)

You also assuming that intelligence can be measured by a number. Interesting. I took an IQ test in 4th grade. I took a different IQ test in 6th grade. I scored much higher in 6th grade. What changed my DNA in those 4 years? I think people should be punished for bad behavior. I did not mean to imply otherwise. If we can prevent some people from leading criminal lives we will all be better off. We have been locking people up for several years. I do not think it is working at preventing new criminals. It is training better ones. So will the problem keep going while people like me “make excuses” or will it keep going until people like you realize that the world is complex. There are some people of all races and genders that are just not nice, not smart, and not educated. That is what I can agree to. I like that we are having what I consider to be a mostly friendly discussion I think we mainly disagree on what the truth is.  (Nov 25, 2008 | post #85)

racism forum

You say the bottom line like that makes your point the truth. Actual crime rates are easy to measure. Why the crime happens is not. I would not have this same discussion if the topic was how many people commit crime, but this one was one racism. The article by the FBI admits the understanding the numbers are more complex than just seeing a number in print. Here is their quote. "Each year when Crime in the United States is published, many entities—news media, tourism agencies, and other groups with an interest in crime in our Nation—use reported figures to compile rankings of cities and counties. These rankings, however, are merely a quick choice made by the data user; they provide no insight into the many variables that mold the crime in a particular town, city, county, state, region, or other jurisdiction. Consequently, these rankings lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting cities and counties, along with their reside" What could one of the variables be? “The ten states with the greatest racial disparities are: Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maine, Iowa, Maryland, Ohio, New Jersey, North Carolina, and West Virginia. In these states, black men are sent to prison on drug charges at 27 to 57 times the rate of white men.” http://www.hrw.org /en/news/2000/06/0 7/united-states-st ark-race-dispariti es-drug-incarcerat ion Now I used a stat. What that stat does not show is the severity of the drug charges. I would hope they compared similar charges. That would be crucial to understanding the reason why black men are sent to prison more often than white men. Here is a “fact?” that should be a cause of alarm for most of us. 69% of all accidents occur within 10 miles from home. How can we keep allowing this to happen! People should not be able to drive close to home. I have notice that exaggerations gets twisted on these forums, but I wanted to include a worthless number just as an example. So I guess this goes back to the point of the post, does racism exist. Unfortunately I think so. I want to end on a good note. Not all people are racist. There are many people who get to know someone before making a judgment. I do not even think everyone on here is a bad person. Some have just been brought up or had life lessons that lead them to a particular conclusion. I cannot blame someone for making assumptions based on their experience. I would just hope all sides can listen to each other and realize that most American have something positive to offer and move on from there.  (Nov 25, 2008 | post #82)

Q & A with personutica

I Believe In:

I see a lot of just plain mean people on this forum by random people. I am still a random person, but you can look at a history of my posts and determine if I seem like a rational person or not. I ask you do the same before believing people on this site.
