Two businessmen sent to prison in Ecorse bribery scandal

Sheldon Divers and Stacey Tarockoff, co-owners of Michigan Municipal Services LLC, were ensnared in a scheme to pay bribes totaling more than $65,000 to former Ecorse Mayor Herbert Worthy in exchange for receiving a public works contract worth more than $3 million. U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn today sentenced Divers, 39, of Detroit to 24 months in prison, three years of probation and $50,000 restitution to the city. Detroit's new top cop starts rebuilding

Sorry to see Evans go. He busted up a few drug operations that included surrounding cities of Detroit. At least one was down the street from me. I hope this other guy Godbee follows in his predecessors footsteps in busting up the crime rings.  (Jul 25, 2010 | post #2)

New Cigarette Law Has Smokers Fuming

Sadly I see many places with nary a soul since this law has been in effect. The non-smokers got what they wanted, so why aren't they dropping their cash at the local eateries? Could it be that nonsmokers do not eat out as much as smokers? I do agree, very rarely have I witnessed the non-smoking section full  (Jul 25, 2010 | post #109)

Young people bailing out on Catholic Church

Jesus, the Son of God is also God. There is the Holy Trinity that consists of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Each are separate persons, yet are God. Similar to water-there is ice, steam and the liquid water. Each are different forms of water, yet the underlying particles of each form is H2O. Steam cannot be separated from the matter that form it; yet it is a different form to the senses-another form of water. Just so, whatever particles are God also exist in the Son and the Holy Spirit. They are different forms yet one. They are the same matter yet distinct from one another.  (Jul 25, 2010 | post #166)

Young people bailing out on Catholic Church

That's it in a nutshell! I've witnessed people leave because they felt they were being 'fed' at a different church because of a band that played more music than ours did. I couldn't understand it..... they never knew their faith. How sad  (Jul 25, 2010 | post #165)

The City Newsletter is unbelievable!

Roy Trevino told me the origin of the flyer, and he did NOT write it. Funny thing is, I heard a few of those stories already from someone else about someone else. Whoever wrote that flyer hangs with people from Carters and wants Larry and Gary back in I'm guessing. Feel sorry for him? I don't. I'm voting because I think he is going to do the job and will not steal from the coffers.  (Aug 2, 2009 | post #20)

Will You Vote For A New Mayor In Ecorse?

I do agree with some of your points Raw. Drugs are not the core of Ecorse problems, it is bad administrations and greed that has caused us to spiral downward. Because of that we have these other crimes in abumdance. The administrations have not and are not working with the police and other groups to meet the needs of the community. I just wish we were like other communities surrounding us who have pulled themselves up out of the muck with careful planning and procedures. This town could have so much and be so much more than it is and has been for all these years. A receiver is only going to tackle the financial arena; he/she is not going to help us change this city into a thriving community. If we don't elect people who care about the city, when the receiver leaves we will be back at square one again, on a downward spiral of destruction. A receiver will help to balance the books, but they won't balance this city as a whole.  (Jul 31, 2009 | post #487)

There is a lot of drugs along with theft. What goes hand in hand is domestic violence, fighting, destruction of property, and other types of violent and very personal crime directed at women primarily. Most thieves steal for drug money. We can probably never get rid of all the drugs, but we can get rid of most and that will cut down considerably on other types of crime. If the addicts/users have to go elsewhere for their fix, they won't be around here, thus they won't be stealing anything out of our yards, breaking in our garages, taking things off our porches, causing disturbance, etc. There are at least 3 drug houses on my block to my knowledge. There are a few on the next block, and on the other side of me some more. 2 blocks down across the street from a friend of mine, the druggies/thieves hang out. The street right across from the police station has many problems with drugs and theft. It is everywhere, they are everywhere. There's a business on Southfield that has some addicts/thieves living upstairs. Most are aware of that, yet they thrive. Small time or not, they are stealing from the community and making people feel unsafe and insecure in their own homes. BS may have done what he could do when he was there, but he certainly wasn't able to remove a great portion of it. It was worse at one time with bigger dealers here, yet there are transactions made every day all day long on most blocks in this town. How many people live within our borders? It is a shame, and we do need a narcotics division desperately and more police to patrol our streets and alleys.  (Jul 31, 2009 | post #486)
