Proposed bill to change Roman Catholic Church finances of...

The scary thing about this bill is that anyone can make allegations of misappropriation of funds and have the state investigate and punish, not just parishioners. Obviously, hundreds of complaints will cripple the church and cost the CT taxpayers to go on these 'witch hunts'. This is how non-religious factions can silence the church because of the churches beliefs.  (Mar 10, 2009 | post #39)

Newtown to contest state's prevailing wage ruling

Tolls could return to state highways

Just where are these new toll booths and lanes now? How much would that cost with our DOT? Even the Garden State at 2 lanes NB/SB has over 16 lanes at the toll areas, and that's with ez pass.  (Feb 26, 2009 | post #64)

Tolls could return to state highways

You are assuming everyone has an ez pass, or wants to pay at least $12/year to get one. So, the people who don't can't enter or leave the state? How do you efficiently collect from the non-ez pass auto? Unless it is federally mandated to have a transponder on all vehicles, it just will not generate as much revenue as you think.  (Feb 25, 2009 | post #57)

Tolls could return to state highways

This was, and still is a bad idea. Let's look at our neighboring states. One, they already had toll booths in place. Two, they joined ez-pass and immediately lost money due to the maintenance of the program (now you have to pay at least $1/month to use ez-pass). Don't have ez-pass? You will have to go through a traditional toll booth. New technologies like license plate readers, photo tolls cost to much to maintain. Out of state drivers will get a bill mailed to them. The hassle of collecting the money with our ultra-efficient DOT and court system is a joke. Tolls will clog traffic, cut federal funds, create unsafe driving conditions, will take 20 years to construct, and don't forget the slimy salamander defenders, and more than half the revenue will go to toll maintenance.  (Feb 24, 2009 | post #25)

Stamping out dissent not the American way

I think a lot of people forget that the first amendment protects the people from the government only. If the DNT or the New York Times does not print editorials or articles because of it's own private agenda, it can. The first amendment protects some one from criticizing the president or government without fear of reprisal.  (Feb 13, 2009 | post #6)

Squirrels

Squirrels

We use a feeder that has a spring loaded outside cage that has leaf designs. The springs can be adjusted so that any squirrel's weight on the top or screen, will pull the screen down and block the feeding openings. We still have to bring them in at night because the raccoons figured out they could sit on the railing and use their fingers to reach inside. If all else fails, get a bb gun, and use only one pump so they will not penetrate the skin. A pop in the **** and they will scurry every time they see you.  (Jan 28, 2009 | post #5)

Screen out birds from jet engines

Canada geese are migratory birds. New England states had this great idea in the 50's and 60's to keep them year round. Now most of them don't migrate, and hang out where there is a lot of grass and marshland, like golf courses and airports. Jerseyboy is right, a screen will just shred the birds, and paper and other junk will just clog the screen, causing more crashes. What amazes me is that Canada geese are still a protected species in the U.S. (but not in Canada).  (Jan 23, 2009 | post #6)
