Why Catholics don't stand up to pedophile priests

The state of denial is big enough for all of us. Some like you though have their own continents.  (Oct 23, 2008 | post #9)

Why Catholics don't stand up to pedophile priests

I am a Catholic and I am outraged by what has happened in the church. Funny how a choice as to this reality was not put forth. Still I am not going to lose my faith or my religion because of this. The problem is deeper than the sound bites of the media or the sensationalized press can allow. There are sound programs in place to help those of us who have children protect them from the pedophiles who are in our schools, neighborhoods, dr.'s offices and our churches. That you seem to believe Catholics are not outraged shows how far removed you are. It makes me wonder why you've brought up this subject once again on TOPIX as if it hasn't already been handled before.  (Oct 21, 2008 | post #3)

MiddleWay, thank you for the affirmation. I know we have skirmished on other threads. I just refuse to be called somehow less than Catholic because I've not been fooled again by the supposed "pro-lifers. " Peace!  (Oct 21, 2008 | post #8)

Dionne: Single-issue Catholic voters could be turning to ...

The same way there are those who can reconcile the wholescale bombing of of the people of Iraq just because we can and still call themselves pro-life because they know they can get votes by doing so.  (Oct 21, 2008 | post #2)

Baltimore archbishop tells Virgin Mary 'visionary' to stop

Well bully for Pope Urban. Still even the words of a pope doesn't make the supposed "visions " of some supposed "visionary " doctrine. Saint Bernadette of Lourdes didn't build a sanctuary for herself or her followers. Instead she humbly stayed true to her visions, the Church and its authority. In this her visions were proved to be true in her lifetime. She should be the model for any visionary today. That there are are those that don't follow this model make them all the more suspect and rightfully so. In this the Church has to protect itself and its followers from them.  (Oct 21, 2008 | post #29)

What it means to be Catholic

There is no explaination for this kind of question except that the priest may not have recognized you as parishioners. This could have been because your parish was so big he never saw you because of the crowd. It could also be because you were never there so he was trying to establish a connection as to why you were coming to the church for a wedding. A better question would have been, Why do you see having a wedding in this church as important to your married lives?" The Catholic Church is not "all about money" but as any institution that has electric, water and gas bills it does need to be good stewards of the monetary resources it has. A couple coming to a church for a wedding needs to know that they would have some kind of fee no matter what venue they chose for the wedding.  (Oct 21, 2008 | post #134)

Somehow using "clueless " fits you to a "T". This is more of the same yadda, yadda, yadda that's been flowing aroung Topix the year and some I've visited this site. At least could you anti-Catholics get some new material to put those of use who are Catholic down with? Not that it would change any of our minds but it would be more entertaining.  (Oct 20, 2008 | post #81)

I wish I'd said that

The reality that life is sacred because life is sacred seems to be a novel one especially in an election year. That life is sacred from womb to tomb with no distinctions has been obscured to the point of almost non-existance. God gives life and should be in God's hands alone to take it back.  (Oct 20, 2008 | post #9)

Baltimore archbishop tells Virgin Mary 'visionary' to stop

If the case in Ohio is the one out of the Cleveland Diocese the woman involved began bringing in monies to build a chapel that was going to be quasi-Catholic but without being sanctioned by the diocese. It is right and necessary that the bishop stepped in on this. The Church has and continues to be cautious of supposed visions and visionaries. Especially when the visions go against Church teaching or attempts to put forth agendas that clearly are anything but divine. Even for those places like Lourdes or Fatima the Church sees them as places private revelation. What was seen though sanctioned by the Church is not considered doctrine and does not have to be accepted by everyone who is Catholic.  (Oct 18, 2008 | post #24)

Catholics must conform to church's teachings

A vote for Obama is no better or worse than a vote for McCain. Neither are guilded lilies as far as I can see. Let's face the reality of McCain's relationship with preachers who believe Catholics are going to Hell in a handbasket and has chosen as his running mate an ex-Catholic who has churched shopped the way some go looking for new shoes. As far as the rest of your post it's not worth going into.  (Oct 18, 2008 | post #72)

Bishop upset that Maher filmed in N.J. parish

That he used a lie to gain access to this church just shows how low he'll stoop to get things his way. Bill thinks he's making a statement that will last for ages when in fact his fifteen minutes of fame is already diminishing. Christianity on the other hand in all it's various forms has two thousand years plus behind it and in spite of much will continue into the future. Bill "too shall pass."  (Oct 17, 2008 | post #2)
