Police arrest suspected home intruder

Perhaps the Wyoming PD isn't doing that great of a job patrolling, but I can say that I see GRPD in my area quite often and it's nice to know that they are there. I have called the police twice to report on domestic violence against one of my neighbors and child abuse against another and they show up in less than 2 minutes. The crime in Grand Rapids, especially Alger Heights, is getting worse, but at least the police helping with on-going patrols and very quick response times.  (Oct 18, 2007 | post #12)

Meijer's unionized Michigan employees OK new labor contract

I can't stand unions. People need to just be happy if they have a job in today's society. Good jobs are hard enough to come by. I will NEVER work for a unionized company. Unions can have the power to impede a company's ability to compete and thrive. A firm might be in desperate trouble, yet its unions may be unwilling to bend or compromise in order to help the company survive. Many employers find themselves left very inflexible when they have union contracts to abide by.  (Oct 13, 2007 | post #3)

Police search for shooting suspect

I live right down the road from there and it blew my mind when it all happened. I don't remember the names of the people that were shot, but it's reason enough for me to put my house of for sale. The scum keeps moving closer and closer.  (Oct 13, 2007 | post #9)

State of crisis - 85% of troopers would be off job in shu...

This is just sad. Perhaps if the government cut half of it's house of representatives for the state, this budget would not be in such crisis. There are 110 members of the Michigan House of Representatives. Why does our state need that many?! See for yourselves: http://www.house.m ichigan.gov/replis t.asp Not to mention that the state lies to the public about the money from the lottery going to public schools...oh sure, the money does go to the schools, but it's only to make up for what the state took out of the schools general fund to pay for other things. So in reality, the targeted ad-campaign that is brain-washing us all to think that the lottery is actually helping schools, it is actually just filling in their gaps and making us all feel like it is actually doing good. LIARS! CHEATS! THIEVES! Another option the state should consider are other state examples that don't even have an income tax, such as Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, S. Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, and Wyoming. (http://www.taxadm in.org/FTA/rate/in d_inc.html) And out of those states, Michigan is at the bottom of list for worst unemployment rate. Florida is 15th, Nevada is 32nd, New Hampshire is tied for 15th, S. Dakota is 5th, Tennessee is 20th, Washington is tied for 32nd, and Wyoming is 10th. (http://money.cnn. com/pf/features/li sts/state_unemploy ment/) Thankfully, my wife and I both still have jobs, but if we were to lose them, I can tell you that I am not going to sit around and wait for my unemployment check to come. I'm getting out of Dodge before the S*** hits the fan. Oh wait, that's only IF I can sell my house. Thanks a lot Michigan......  (Sep 29, 2007 | post #66)

Blacks and Hispanics aren't the problem, society is. You think the amount of people in prison is bad now, think about how society is today and look ahead 20 years. We are only seeing the **** of the iceberg. Our country is on the long downward-spiraling road toward self-destruction and people only have themselves to blame. The main cause of this is the moral fiber of the average person has gone down the toilet and things that used to be taboo are now widely accepted. It is almost as if the question "Should I be doing this?" is being erased from the generally accepted idea of morality.  (Sep 27, 2007 | post #17)

If you don't care, then why bother posting anything in this forum to begin with? If you want to smoke, do it on your own time, away from work, in your car, or in your house. It is so much more than just a health issue, its also about respecting those around you that do not smoke. If you want to destroy your life by smoking, feel free, but that doesn't give you the right to subject other people to your vice. I also think it should be illegal to smoke around children. It's not fair to them, and if anyone thinks that its ok, or that it doesn't hurt them at all, they don't deserve to have kids. I have seen the 4 year old that lives two houses away from me pickup his mother's cigarette **** and start smoking it. It must be cool right? I mean, if the kids mom smokes around him, then the kid gets the idea that it must be ok. IT'S NOT!! Smoking affects everyone around you, even if you don't think it does. How many of you have had relatives or close friends die of cancers or pulmonary problems that were the direct result of either smoking, or being around smokers for long periods of time? I have, and it just plain sucks. Get a clue. It's time you start caring.  (Aug 23, 2007 | post #15)

The company I work for also just recently banned smoking on the property. I personally do not smoke, but it has upset many people. I for one and glad that I no longer have to worry about walking through a large cloud of smoke just to enter the building. However, they are allowed to smoke in their vehicles, which I think is just fine.  (Aug 23, 2007 | post #2)

Woman stabbed to death, suspect on the run

Thank you for your insight, and I would have to agree that domestic violence has no territory, and perhaps this was the wrong area to post my own frustrations, but none-the-less, this city is going to h e l l. This is just another example of pointless violence. My heart does go out to the family; I can't even imagine what they are going through.  (Aug 22, 2007 | post #77)
