Companies urge employees to learn green ways to build bui...

In Overland, Alberici always comes to mind when we thing of green building and design. It is nice to see that Clayco is also committed to LEEDs and environmentally friendly design. Interestingly, at a recent tour I had an opportunity to talk to Mr. Alberici. He told me that their headquarters building, that is currently believed to be the highest rated platnuim LEEDs certified building in the world, did not cost them a dime above their original budget for a typical class A office space. When you consider that as well as the operational savings from reduced electrical needs, water usage, etc why would any company not consider these design elements?  (Oct 26, 2007 | post #1)

Special Council Meeting 10-15-2007

The Council decided, 4-4 with the Mayor breaking the tie to allow this consolidation at the October 22nd City Council Meeting. While I don't think anyone would oppose the Consolidation as it makes the property more valuable for the Owner, everyone in the area is concerned that the Pool Maintenance company that is looking to come into that location may not have to go though the Planning and Zoning Commission for a Conditional use permit if Acting Permit based on comments by Acting Public Works Director Chuck Boone. Is it really wise or fair to allow a company that stores thousands of gallons of chemicals on site to move into a locations that is NOT zoned for such a company without allowing comment from the residences and businesses that share a property line with it?  (Oct 26, 2007 | post #1)

Dooley wants MetroLink expansions to connect people, jobs

With a proposed Metrolink Line from Clayton to Westport it might be possible to get a stop in Overland, MO. as well. This could be a real boom for Overland, or it could be a disaster. Thoughts?  (Oct 26, 2007 | post #1)

Dills slips quietly into Overland Ward 4 seat

While the City Council has been quiet about this Overland's internet community has not. The views of those who opposed this appointment were best expressed at the new home of the OVCC blog in a post by SuzyJax entitled "Lacking Backbone" (link: http://ovcc2.blogs pot.com/2007/09/la cking-backbone.htm l )  (Sep 27, 2007 | post #1)

EDITORIAL: Overland must overcome divisiveness to move fo...

I agree that residents and politicians alike need to learn how to deal with each other in a civil fashion even if they disagree on candidates, solutions, or the city's future direction. However, our communities need better information if they are going to have a chance of becoming informed voters. The Overland - St. Ann Suburban Journal is our community newspaper, yet it frequently lacks in depth coverage and analysis of local government and issues. For lack of a few good Muckrakers in print communities like Overland continue to be "under-inform ed". We cannot have better government without a strong fourth estate. Without information from a reliable, non-biased source, communities like Overland will continue to stagnate in a sea of voter apathy and ignorance. Freedom of the press was instituted by our founders as the fourth check and balance of our government. If our communities are going to move forward and excel, our community newspapers will have to step up and take that responsibility seriously once again. Left to biased and divisive sources of information is it really surprising that that many have become biased and divisive themselves?  (Aug 4, 2007 | post #2)

Overland mayor is sued

You're assuming that the sexual harassment issue was true. I don't assume either way, however since the Police Department successfully defended against that law suit you have to wonder about it's validity. Also, I have no idea how you could claim the City Attorney is a racist. Working with the ACLU he represented the KKK in court on a freedom of speech issue. Since the man is Jewish I highly doubt he is a member of that organization.  (Jul 16, 2007 | post #3)

City faces prospect of 2 audits

Well, I've still never heard from him on this. However, I gave up on it awhile ago. They were on my block the other day seeking signatures. Interestingly, they didn't come to my door. It Mr. Knode's defense I have seen him at several meetings and could have asked him about it there. However, I'd given up on trying to get information on this issue so I never asked him about it. I did see him discussing the issue with the new Post-Dispatch reporter so perhaps we will see some details in the Post.  (Jul 10, 2007 | post #4)

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: More mayoral troubles in Overland

Those suits were entirely necessary. We have Laws, Statutes and Ordinances to ensure that the rules are followed by our elected officials in an effort to protect the public trust. Every suit against former Mayor Purzner was over her failure to follow those laws, statutes and ordinances. As for your comments about Councilperson Conlon she was not involved in any of those suits against former Mayor Purzner. In fact, the group that spearheaded those suits seems to be the group spreading the most false information about her. As for her petition (it was not a lawsuit) against Councilperson Schneider I did not like the way this was handled initially (I felt she should have discussed the matter with Councilman Schneider before taking legal action), but the bottom line is that it was an effort to ensure that a public official followed the law. Interestingly, the petition was factually accurate when you consider the the Missouri Department of Revenue gave Mr. Schneider a bill for the 2006 personal property taxes that included interest and penalties from January 1st 2007. He paid that bill "under protest". The case was won on a technicality. That being that since the DOR did not list him as behind on his taxes on the last day he could file as a candidate he was not in violation of the statute. The fact remains that the taxes were owed and they should have been paid (and now they have been).  (Jul 10, 2007 | post #13)

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: More mayoral troubles in Overland

Purzner's Ouster was "Trumpted up"? You Seriously believe this? She repeatedly violated the law costing the City 10s of thousands of dollars in unnecessary lawsuits because the only legal advice she would listen too came from the lawyer who repeatedly lost these same cases. I'm sorry, but Former Mayor Purzner, though she is a nice lady and has always been involved in local charities was clearly incompetent as Mayor.  (Jul 10, 2007 | post #11)
