Children are cruel. It is the responsibility of the parents to enable their children to deal with bullying effectively. No one FORCES your child to become violent. They make that choice. It is not okay for a child to be violent when they are not defending themselves from immediate physical harm. It is not okay for a child to be violent because someone is creating a negative environment that they cannot isolate themselves from (i.e. they must go to school and cannot escape the negativity). It is not okay for a parent to blame their child choosing to be violent on other children, teachers, or the school system. You are enabling violent behavior, and that does not equip your child to deal with hardships in the future. Do you think it would be acceptable for your child, as an adult, to punch their employer because their employer is demeaning toward them? Answer: no, that would not be legally or socially acceptable. While it is important to be empathetic toward your child during these awkward years of social discomfort, it is also imperative that parents teach their children how to effectively cope with their respective situations in a manner that is not harmful but will give them the coping mechanisms they will need to thrive in varying social settings as an adult. Please do not sit and tell your child it is okay to be violent as the result of other children being mean to them. Please do not sit and blame school officials. Instead, take these situations as they arise and turn them into opportunities to teach your children important life lessons. Not only do bullied children need your support, they need the appropriate support. If you, as a parent, do not know how to enable your child to deal with those situations in a non-violent manner, please contact a licensed therapist or do the research yourself. Children are cruel. There will always be bullying in their social settings. The fact of persistence does not make the behavior acceptable, but folks would do well to change their approach to this topic. Every single thing you do involving your child is part of the development of another human being, a human being that will go on as an adult to impact the lives of many throughout their own life. Please take the time as a parent to make certain that you are preparing them to impact others in a positive manner. Don't just pass the buck here by blaming others and excusing violence. i am pretty sure they didn't think the world would "end", but more like the universe would be reborn. (May 25, 2011 | post #8)
Wrote a very lengthly paper on this topic once. This is what I recall: Majority of the in-ground oil reserves is not owned by OPEC. Price changes are mostly caused by loopholes in the futures market. Boycotting your local fueling stations will NOT lower prices. War will NOT lower prices. The president does not control gas prices. Global demand is increasing at an expontential rate while production is remaining low= increased prices. Oil companies pass the overhead cost increases of their refining processes to the consumer. basically, if you don't like it you should find an alternate fuel source or alternate form of transportation tl;dr none of your beliefs regarding price increases are correct; buy a bicycle. if she posts pics like that, then she should readily expect to get degrading comments. this is too open a forum for things like that. posting pics of yourself will not get you positive attention, only ridicule. (May 4, 2011 | post #17)
i cannot express how much i would LOVE to have a super target or a costco! sometimes i motorvate up to jc just to shop at target. my only complaint is: i wish they would make the isles wider. that way i could just drive my car in there and grab things through the window and pay on the way out like at mcdonald's... this is exactly the kind of forum we needed. great info everyone! thank you all! please keep up all the hard work for the community! (May 4, 2011 | post #30)
appologies for blending your posts in with another user. i honestly thought you were the same person using a different tag. thank you for volunteering to help the community. best wishes in your endeavor to do, whatever it is you are trying to do. (May 4, 2011 | post #160)
i just want to make sure those folks don't get scammed by people posing as fema. if fema is already approaching people then that's awesome. that means those folks can get into a new home or repair their home that much sooner. (May 4, 2011 | post #136)
i am not sure who upset you so badly that you feel the need to name individuals in an un-documented report to the red cross. instead of coming on here and blasting them, why don't you approach them? make some suggestions. since you have been to washington co where they are more organized, maybe you could help streamline things. getting on here and threatening to name people in a report just makes people not want to help. also, i'm not sure what trained red cross personnel are out there. to my understanding most of the people that were wearing the vests were just local volunteers. i'm not sure why they were given vests. so, you may want to double check your info before you waste your time naming individuals in your coorespondence. also, you may want to direct more of your attention to mr. brown. try to find out what actions he is taking, and what direction he is giving. you may find the catalyst to your problem there. i don't know. honestly though, you need to tone down your "fear and anger" campaign. i have volunteered my time in various places of the community and at different command posts. i have been out there helping these folks get their roofs covered before the rain. i have personally taken people that got missed during food deliveries food. almost my entire family and extended family live in this community. it was of paramount importance for me to help not just my family, but others who were effected. i came on here expecting to see something positve about the efforts of the volunteers, and instead i read your post. so, yes- i flew off the handle. i just hope you can understand why. i just wish that since you feel so strongly, you should go talk to the folks at the command center you were offended at. i assure you everyone working and volunteering has the best intentions at heart. i wouldn't know. i can't volunteer much right now because i have to work. just ask around. i'm sure someone knows. (May 4, 2011 | post #134)
i must be mistaken then. make sure everyone is aware that fema will not be asking individuals for money. anyone posing as a fema rep and asking for money should be reported to the authorities immediately. (May 4, 2011 | post #133)
i'm glad that you are just like everyone else on topix and think you know who i am. i promise you don't. as for my hateful language, i felt as if it were an appropriate response. you don't have to agree. you, like myself, are entitled to your own opinion. also, i don't work for red cross or have any affiliations with it or any member of it. i think they are doing a fantastic job for the community. they are also providing aid to victims that is not known by the public, because they are funding medical expenses for victims injured during the tornado. (May 3, 2011 | post #45)
that's nice. FEMA has not approached any families at this time. they are only taking pictures (May 3, 2011 | post #127)
nothing wrong with seeking aid when you need it, and have exhausted all other options to provide for yourself. i just have issues with those that CAN and DON'T. they take away from those folks that need it. either way, we will still have to pay the same rate to social welfare. i would just like to see the money going to those that are deserving of it, not strung-out irresponsible people that won't provide for themselves.
