people should be having children if they cannot care for them properly. i can't have children and i have always wanted to have kids. it makes me sick when parents do not see they are hurting their children.  (Jun 25, 2010 | post #23)

The Rebirth of Butte College

I am a Butte College alum. Butte was a great college and the professors were awesome. I think most of them are now retired. I was part of the music program: choir, piano and voice. Byron Thomas was the teacher. I learned so much from him. He was a wonderful and funny teacher.  (Dec 14, 2009 | post #22)

Panel recommends skipping mammograms until 50

After I had turned 40, I scheduled my first mammogram. About five years ago, there was a mass, but could not tell by the mammo. They had to do a biopsy. Thank God it was benign. It is important to have one every year. A couple of years ago, one of my childhood friends died of breast cancer and she was 48. She had a mammogram every. So, medical doctors or not, don't tell us to wait. If we wait, the results could be horrific. I say if you don't have breast cancer in your family, have your first mammogram at 40. It may save your life.  (Nov 17, 2009 | post #6)

Folk icon Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary dies

I loved listening to them when I was a kid and learned how to play the songs on the guitar in the late 60s early 70s. Those were the days of simpler music. She will be missed!  (Sep 17, 2009 | post #2)

Hermosa Beach grandmother, granddaughter go to CSULB

My mom is 65 and back in the day, when women got married they stayed at home to take care of the house and kids. My mom was very content doing that.  (Sep 2, 2009 | post #17)

Hermosa Beach grandmother, granddaughter go to CSULB

I think that is awesome!!! My mom and I went to college together after I graduated from high school. It was weird at first, but we both got our degrees. My hat goes off to them!!! Good luck to you both!  (Sep 1, 2009 | post #4)

Galea pleads no contest

I'm sorry, I don't agree with the possibility of being sentence to the county jail. Molestation is a felony and regardless of his age, state prison is where he should be. He also needs to be registered as a sex offender. He needs to pay for what he did and this should not be swept under the carpet. If someone else his age did the same thing, he may want to get the same kind of preferencial treatment. I am a survivor and the man went to prison.  (Jun 4, 2009 | post #7)

For sale: San Quentin for a cool $1B

It's ashame that landmarks are potentially being sold. I thought this country was trying to preserve these landmarks. Aren't they considered history in California. I remember as a kid living in San Jose, my parents went to the Cow Palace. Isn't there some other way to get this state out of this huge deficit. Arnie...what about all your millions?  (Jun 4, 2009 | post #7)

Recalling a fallen officer

We live in a country that let's us exercise our rights to freedom, rights to worship God, rights to make our own decisions. I watched the funeral on TV last year, your husband was one of a kind. To have a heart and compassion for people and still uphold the badge with integrity is something that is hard to do. What the law enforcement does, I salute you for a job well done. May God continue to give you strength as you live on without your husband or father. We have an awesome God and he will continue to bless His children.  (Feb 6, 2009 | post #8)

Dad punishes son for vandalism by making him advertise hi...

What an awesome thing to do for your son!!! I'm not a parent, but I see some parents ignore their children and sometimes it leads to crime. Well done Mr Baltimore!  (Dec 17, 2008 | post #12)

Paradise residents pack up and evacuate

Wow Mark, I lived in Paradise around the same time. Went to Butte Colllege with my mom. My sister and brother went to Paradise High. We also attended Paradise Alliance Church. I live in Buena Park CA. My heart goes out to everyone in Paradise. I have a step-aunt that lives there and many friends. Reading about the devastation it just breaks my heart. My friends and I here are praying the town and that the fire will soon be gone. God bless the firefighters who are helping!!!  (Jul 10, 2008 | post #3)
